@Ausdauersportler I've had exchanges with both jackluke and Barry on this thread and also its predecessors, just was out of the loop for a few weeks but have catched up. I've tried quite some of jacklukes early contributions and almost always responded to both of them with feedback, and I don't think I was impolite just curious.

Please quit trying to be the Sheriff here, young padawan ;) and don't escalate this, thats not helpful. Thanks

I have both Catalina on a 2012 mac mini and Big Sur on another 2012 mac mini machine with the 2.5 GHz cpu and they both run Drift screensaver with no lag and no stutter , so I know they can do it well , I have Samsung EVO 500GB SSD and 16 GB RAM in both machines
I have a Sammy 2TB SSD and 16 in my MBP 9,2 as well. Drift starts out ok and after 5 mins it’s like 2 FPS. Every saver does this for me on this machine since Mojave. Except Flurry, it always works.

This is ridiculous, the steps are the same, but you do not have to read all the warnings @Barry K. Nathan made before about using file vault, etc and can happily jump directly into the deepest possible hole this upgrade may offer.
I politely disagree, not that I made the instructions, I don't care if I get credit for that post, more like, it's made a lot shorter for a 2012 Mac Mini and 2012 MBP, there's a long page to read through on Barry's site, a lot of redundant steps for installing on above macs on micropatchers site.

Edit:
Wordcount on Micropatcher site: 2,323 words 13,525 characters
Wordcount on my instructions: 387 words 2,195 characters

My version is >6 times shorter.
Don't get me wrong, Barry's site is a very long thorough/comprohensive guide, it's well done, but for those of us which have the above macs it's easier to use my steps, they work.

Hey All, can anyone confirm that this is still the latest info?
I was thinking about putting Big Sur on my Late 2013 iMac (iMac14,x) and want to make sure that I have the latest info about how it will run before hand. If anyone has some experience with that machine I would really appreciate the "help" :)

Have a nice weekend everyone :)
Do this look right? Do I need to clean up the snapshots somehow?

Hi All,

I just installed my early 2013 Macbook Pro with big-sur-micropatcher. I have an external TrendNet N150 Mini Wireless USB device I need to use as the built-in doesn't work. The driver is provided https://github.com/chris1111/Wireless-USB-Big-Sur-Adapter. This device was working with Catalina and is tested to be working on a supported Macbook with BigSur.

I see from "System Information" that device is recognized correctly under "USB" section but the kext is not getting loaded automatically when I check with kextstat. When I kextload manually, the device doesn't work either. I am suspecting that the registration of the driver with USB is not happening preventing from the driver getting loaded.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this or get this to work are very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mohan

For those of you that installed Big Sur on an iMac 11,1 with Metal-GPU like K2100M (or similar), do you still have Target Display Mode available?

again credits to all who's involved to make this happen, actually prefer your guide version, much easier for me to follow. Thanks.

I am simply not your Dude, not a young Padawan and clearly not a Sheriff. My only mistake was to answer you. Will not happen, again!

Please keep some verbal distance and stay on topic - if you can!

Everybody is free to choose! And it is not about your post.

Speech is redundant, possibly one can get your word count and character count down to make it even better.

My point is another:

If something is going wrong taking the short cut the user has to go the long way. And reading the long story before doing a quick and dirty installation always delivers more information. It is a little bit like learning: It is never about succeeding in a final test, it is always about understanding what you are learning and doing.

Here is question for any who might know. I have a MacPro 3,1 with Metal-compatible but non-EFI video card. So, a USB installer is a no-go. For Catalina, the Install to this Machine option from DosDude1 patcher worked perfectly.

My question is this option a possiblity at some point in the future. If so, great since I am no hurry to install Big Sur. Instead, I will likely wait until the last point release if the Install to this Machine becomes a viable option.

You could always perform the installation with the original gpu in so that you could boot to EFI and then the Big Sur installer through the boot selector (restart+option/alt key)

I got the MacPro 3,1 in 2018 with my current GPU. I am considering getting a GTX680 as a replacement but have been happy with graphics performance of my current card. I still have time since the last point release of Big Sur will release in the Sept 2021 timeframe.

Just wanted to post about my iMac11,2. Got everything up and running with a flashed K1100M, using barryk's micropatcher and khronokernel's OpenCore fix. Only things that don't work are brightness and sleep.. this is my first run with upgrading and flashing a GPU for one of these computers--so I might be totally oblivious on a fix for brightness/sleep. Regardless, I'm glad to have Big Sur on this machine. Big thanks to the devs for making this possible.View attachment 1516639
To get the brightness control with this card and BIOS you need the OpenCore settings found on the Catalina Loader from the first link in my signature. There is no other way to get it working. Sleep should work without any problems...

@BeatCrazy
I already tried all that. It seems that it's not a Handoff problem. All other Handoff functions are working.
I can see the Hotspot in the WiFi status and when I click on it, I can see that the hotspot is getting activated on my iPhone. The problem is, that the iMac can't connect to that hotspot
The same problem with MBP 15" 2012... all working except personal Hotspot and bluetooth connection with iPhone (all iPhones from 5 to 12).

Does anyone know how to turn it on?

If you can find a mac gt 120 that would be nice! Those should be very cheap but their only use nowadays is only for purposes of installation.

Hi all,
I am not an expert but I will try it so I keep my MBP mid-2012 fresh and young.
One quick question before I give it a go, if soon Apple releases some new versions of changes to Big Sur, will we be able to update then via the App Store?
- Sorry if this question has been asked before -
And thanks in advance

you could use some diagnostic tools to measure the read/write cycles and performance of your SSD , making sure it performs according to the specs it was made to run at .. test the RAM with memory tests as it is often the culprit of weakening performance before they die ....also check activity monitor to see if there are processes running that put extra load when not needed to be running , in the corporate sector when companies buy pallets of computers , when unboxing and setting them up on bench 20 at a time it is shown that even on identical boxes some just run better than others , a manufacturing variance , just as long as the machine passes QC tests parameters it gets shipped . Also test your device temps , could be dust buildup on inside of machine

I am running a 2008 Mac Pro flashed with DosDude1 APFS ROM Patcher.
The video card is a Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 .
I tried to install Big Sur with Barry’s Micropatcher Version 0.5.1
through the boot selector (restart+option/alt key) but no luck.
I boot up to the USB and reset the Mac’s NVRAM with no problem.
When I reboot the Mac and tried to do the installation the Mac
reboot to the Catalina desktop with an error message that the installation
could not be complete. The flash drive is fine.
I used the flash drive on 2 Mac Pros 5,1 and a 2012 iMac.
Has anyone had any luck with a 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 and Big Sur?

BarryKN appears to suggest that you should use a different patcher. The following comment is in his README file.

- As mentioned at the top of this README, 2008 Mac Pro owners should use StarPlayrX's Big Mac patcher instead of this patcher.
