@dosdude1 Thank you very much. I wish all the best in your life, the brilliant career and future endeavours from the bottom of my heart. I didn't need patchers for my trusty Mac but you saved me not once by sharing Installers of compatible macOS pulled by Apple on MAS with me and your patchers helped me to install several systems with no other options. We got used to your invisible presence so much that you will be missed.

Looking forward to hearing big news about your own created companies or projects that will challenge the landscape of Big Tech.

Hey everyone,

just wanted to provide some updates on Radeon 6x support under Catalina and Big Sur. I have received an overwhelming request for my patched kexts which enables full support in Catalina and partial support for brightness and screen resolution in Big Sur. I am pleased to announce that my patched kexts from high Sierra are confirmed working on the iMac 2011 with Radeon 6x graphics due to the overwhelming demand if I haven’t gotten back to your message I will over the next few days to test. Please note there have been reported kernel panics ocassionally under Big Sur and my reason for not releasing so far is 11.1 is causing issues with the kexts not loading at boot so i and a few other people are investigating and will have updates shortly. If you send me a message stating you upgraded to 11.1 past rc 2 will probably not respond because we are seeing more kernel panics under big sur since the rc 2 release. More to come!

Next I wanna address update packages....to be blunt apple is doing away with install packages just like iOS most updates are going to be delivered via ota. Primary reasons apple deleievred install packages was for system administrators who wanted a prolonged roll out. I can confirm with a few freinds who are on the apple server development team through the App Store that most delegated updates will be delivered through server manager rather then system update packages thus the reason we haven’t seen an installer yet for rc 2 of the 11.1 update. Update packages will be less and less due to wanting more users ease of use through software update in setting or server manager just like with iOS devices if needing to be managed by administrators. Now I have some solutions for this and will be working with a few people to enable ota updates. That’s about all I have to say! Good day all

Ok, my bad. Sorry.
Thanks.

I suppose I should have just kept quiet and kept tracking things until they settled down or phrased my query differently as I also seem to have set the developer off. Hope he gets over it.

Could this also apply to a Macmini5,2 (mid 2011) for example? I happen to have that 2.5GHz Mac mini model with Radeon gpu only, no integrated intel graphics available. Haven’t tried any unsupported macOS on it yet, because it’s ought to be to slow performance-wise because of the unsupported Radeon HD 6630M graphics.

@macinfo good question honestly it’s been seven years since apple released that variant of Mac mini apple switched away from it and was only sold for a limited times because of the graphics issues they had with the MacBook Pro 2011 I’d have to try it. In theory they should work but I don’t have that machine anymore to try!

Let me say this in the plist file in the kexts the model Mac mini is listed in theory it should work but it’s modified with some of my own code. I stripped the Mac mini and iMac from the kexts because I didn’t own those systems but just last night I reintroduced the code for the iMac with a few modifications and I’ve only had a few hours to have a friend test....it’s experimental....the reality folks is if you don’t support metal there never will be a 100% fix....that’s just our reality. Apple has stripped to much opengl code for it to work 100%. We may get resolution and brightness but it’s still not perfect. If you desire perfect then stay on Catalina and that comes form senior people in the forum because they know along with myself that Big Sur is miserable on not fully supported graphics. Along with myself if other developers can chime in to confirm this so we don’t waste people’s time after they install and complain it’s slow. Thanks!

I’ve been programming applications since the voodoo 2 card in the 1990s if you remember that and in the mid 2000’s for nvidia and five years with amd. I will tell you enabling more then what I said above is not possible with the hardware we can nurse these system but they will never be like Catalina with dosdudes patcher where pretty much everything works.. .it’s not going to happen and I can confirm this 100%. Not a single person will get none metal to work 100% because apple controls the hardware and software! In Catalina we got a pass from apple but Big Sur we found apple is no longer forgiving because they’ve modified to much stuff!

Please check out the first post of this thread, in particular the section about "unsupported machines", then about "unsupported video cards" and if you feel still comfortable at last the section with the patcher options.

Easy question :)

So I'm running Big Sur fine on my @jackluke patcher method, on my 2009 27" iMac 11,1. But somehow I lost sound output (no device listed in Sound menu). PRAM reset doesn't fix.

I ran into this before, and I fixed it by running the BarryKN patch-kexts.sh from within the patched OS.

However, I'm nervous to try this again because I'm afraid the BarryKN Micropatcher kexts will goof up my working install (save for the sound output issue).

Any guidance on how to proceed?

Hi, i installed Big Sur on my late 2009 Mac Mini, using a JackLuke's USB fixes, but it painfully slow work without graphic acceleration. And i patched EFI Bootrom by Dosdude1 apfs patcher, to solve many issues. Barry's micropatcher useless in that case, with Mac Mini 3.1. Khronokernel's OpenCore Patcher also don't give result.

Well,
I have check in particular unsupported machines
But mac mini 2009 is not in listing even the video card.before models are totally unsupported like mini 1,1 2,1 those.
That details provided by dosdude
But patcher i have still not found, which patcher compatible for the big sur installation for mac mini 2009.

If you know any member in forum who try before with same espect of machine.
Then i hope i can try
Thank you.

Don't try Big Sur with the 2009 Mac mini. The lack of Metal-supported graphics will be a roadblock.

Searching this thread I found within split seconds this answer :)

Since your video card does not work with graphics acceleration I would not even try and waste the time. This was the real intention of my cryptic answer. Check the lists yourself and come to the conclusion (yourself) that the hardware was not really built to run Big Sur. You may use it as a head less server...

So you didn't make it past the installation, correct?

If you did/had, you would see that graphics would be completely unusable. Not just slow, unusable. If you can get Catalina working (again?), just consider yourself luck that you got such mileage out of your machine :)

To disable SIP, you open Terminal in Recovery mode, type: csrutil disable, then reboot. Done!
Did you use Catalina patches by dosdude for Big Sur Beta?
Thx!

I told you, that you need to create elcapitan's install usb stick (or HDD or SDD partition) and do SIP-disable under recovery, booted from this stick (Hdd or SSD partition).
