I don't use OpenCore Legacy Patcher, but OpenCore 0.6.8
both can work with the EFI folder on the internal partition
the secret is there, in this internal EFI partition
if you copy the EFI folder containing the following subfolders: BOOT, OC will boot perfectly.

EFI >
EFI >
APPLE
BOOT
OC

this structure can receive OTA updates, needing only the correct OpenCore or OpenCore Legacy Patcher config.plist and files of your system
Looks like maybe others are having the same problem with updating to OS v11.3. Thanks for the reply.

Hello everyone, we're proud to release OpenCore Legacy Patcher v0.1.2!

Overall the main note worthy changes to OCLP:
  • Sidecar support for models with Metal-based Intel iGPUs (experimental)
    • Currently requires wired connection, wireless highly unstable
  • Windows 10 PCI Allocation patches for UEFI
    • Enhanced Audio and eGPU Support
  • Enhanced 3rd Party NVMe
    • Allowing for up-to 90% power reduction at idle on non-Apple drives
  • Support for Native Macs, allowing better 3rd Party Hardware support
    • Includes 3rd Party NVMe Patches as well as Sidecar support
And much more, all listed in the CHANGELOG.md

Hope everyone enjoys the new release! And here's an extra little peak at Sidecar working on a MacBookPro9,2 with 2015 iPad Pro:

Hi. I have a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009 and after updating I still don't have any audio through the speakers and the backlighting for the keyboard doesn't work. Other than that everything else, besides some graphical glitches here and there, works amazing, two times faster than Catalina for me.

That is WONDERFUL NEWS!!! Your 13" has wired sidecar working? I have been racking my head --almost to the point of going back to 10.15.1-- trying to get wired sidecar to work --and it almost does-- because the ability to sign documents as well as moving stuff to storage in places where I am not doing things that cause Bach's Tocata to play in the background.

thx for wonderfull news

after instal big sur 11.3 on my mid2012 mbp 10.1 , ( by ur open-core legacy patcher)
location services unable to determine my current location.

its enable and many times i disabled and reenable it from setting/privacy&seurity... also i reseted NVRAM & PRAM many times... deleted and make new profile on mac network ...
on Catakina there was not this problem with my own home WiFi.

i read many forums about this trouble
most of them said this coz of my wifi problem

plz guide and help me about this

thx sir

Downloaded the file from the IPSW link. In terms of name and size it is significantly different from the MDS version. Have created a USB installer using the MDS version and Micropatcher, which will take about 3 hours to install.

Let's see what happens.

It's was a really long time process. 5 or more min.
Did you let the patcher select the EEPROM version? Did the Mini3,1 make the ROM access sound after the flashing light? Update failed twice but did not produce a brick. This is a very early 2009 Mini3,1. Trying to avoid disaster.

So 11.3.1 dropped, surprisingly an InstallAssistant is out too.
macOS Installer - 11.3.1 build 20E241: http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/16/05/071-32414-A_33YH16R8HF/28ment5qr993c0l9i1qbh4fuknli9wzglp/InstallAssistant.pkg
FYI, a 12.6GB version (20E241) of 11.3.1 is also available from App Store; search for "Big Sur". And unfortunately the release on App Store works for supported devices and I assume OCLP installs, but not micropatcher installs. Good thing we have the sucatalog InstallAssistant.pkg available from the swcdn.apple.com server.

Can anyone verify if menu item keyboard commands are no longer dimmed in 11.3.1? Apparently this graphic glitch has been in Big Sur a long while -- it flew below my radar until a few days ago! So much for being a trained observer!

The latest beta of SuperDuper backup software is now able create bootable Big Sur backups
(M1 users need to be on Big Sur 11.4 beta for that to work):
...
Read more or get SuperDuper v3.5 B1 from ShirtPocket’s blog.
I can verify SD 3.5beta1 does indeed work at least for my device (rMBP, check my signature) on BS11.3. I had to do a couple of things first to make it work since I had an earlier version of SuperDuper.
• Remove SuperDuper! from the "Full Disk Access" list in the Security & Privacy preference pane and restart your Mac. This will work around an Apple bug triggered by the change of SuperDuper!'s bundle ID.
• Run SuperDuper! and give it full disk access.
• Format a disk (I used a 500GB Crucial X8 USB -- really fast and not too expensive!) as APFS at the basic level, not just one of the containers.
• Make a new "Back Up All Files" backup. It took my rMBP a little less than an hour to copy around 300GB.

possible to delete the EFI/EFI/APPLE folder created during Big Sur OTA updates? I see that this folder contains the files to upgrade ROM and SMC hardware. So, the presence of this folder can slow down the start-up of Mac that, perhaps, waits a few seconds to try to make an hardware update... or is it useful for some system verification or process that I ignore? Thank you. :)
I add that with the latest OCLP Builds Apple TV works great without having to intervene in the options to create the EFI Build! and the iMac14,2 is correctly recognised as iMac15,1
Unfortunately I have not yet solved how to make Photo Booth work well too, which, strangely, works well in Safe Mode... (a Mystery)

Yes, you can delete the Apple folder or subfolder. But it will come back on the next boot. One can delete the files from Preboot to prevent this.

I installed Big Sur on my MBA5,2 through OCLP which worked really fine until just now. The screen just went black and it apparently shut down. When I turn it on again, I put in my password and the laptop shuts down right at the loading bar again.
Is this a know issue and is there a solution for it?

edit: it seems like it was the battery not charging and dying. Sorry for getting overexcited!

Any idea what's going on with this error? I'm going from 11.2 Patched Sur using the latest Patched Sur. I've tried twice and it downloads the OS but when preparing it gives this error.

Error 1x255

it is probably indicating update 11.3.1, Patch Sur needs to be updated to be compatible with the new update released yesterday.

Previously used barrykn's patcher to install 11, 11.1, and 11.2 on a 2012 macmini. Does that still work for 11.3.1?

Can someone point me in the direction of instructions for switching and upgrading using OCLP going forward?
