Srolling with non Apple mouse does not work on 11.4 on my MBP 2012. Scrolling with trackpad works normally. I use USB Overdrive, saw that the app recognises Wheel up and down, but can't see any scrolling. If I turn off USB Overdrive, scrolling is SLOW, not usable. Setting fastest scrolling speed does not help. Anybody with these problems?

Updated MBP 5,1 to Big Sur 11.4 from 11.3.1 with OCLP.
Update process went smooth, like on supported machine. :) After that I only had to reapply post install volume patches.

@marcel151 I checked scrolling on non Apple mouse - it work fine for me.

EDIT: I didn't realize I need to apply patches as part of the initial setup, in order to improve the graphics response. Once patches applied, it works really well! Leaving my original post below in case someone runs into the same situation, they'll know to complete this "final step" with non-Metal supported Macs.

Did an experiment today with my MacBookPro6,1 which is a Mid 2010 17" model with the i7 and Nvidia GT 330M (non-Metal) graphics. A maxed out machine from 11 years ago, free to me :) I used a fresh SSD and built the Big Sur installer via another Mac. So no funny business, just as "fresh" of an install as you could get.

Three things I want to point out, for anyone considering using OCLP with this model.
  1. It works! Yes, following the excellent instructions, you can definitely get this model running macOS 11.4. Thank you to the wonderful team that contributed so much to making Big Sur work on something that definitely should not. Great job OCLP team!
  2. Many things are ultra-slow, like worse than HDD. Doing the initial Big Sur set-up installation options, it was like cursor is frozen for 3 seconds, can move for 1 second. Repeat. Instead of taking 5 minutes for initial install, it's more like 20.
  3. This "freezing" manifests itself in many native Apple apps, like News, Maps, etc. Which basically makes them unusable. Other apps (like Safari) work much better. But they still worked/launched slowly, like you're using a HDD, instead of the SSD I am using.
As such, I'm going to pull the drive and revert back to High Sierra. Big Sur is too stuttery for me, but I really appreciate the effort into making this work. So simple to install (vs. previous OC instances) and definitely keeps many computers from becoming e-waste.

Thanks again OCLP folks, and I'll keep up the good fight with my iMac 11,1 27" Late 2009 w/metal GPU that runs really strong thanks to OCLP.

Did you install the OCLP post-install patches in the MBP? Item #3.

Did anyone else notice macOS installer became Macintosh HD in this OTA update? Once installed - so far, so good. 🧐

Hello K2,

I had the same experience while installing 11.5 beta 1 using OCLP 0.1.5. There were two Macintosh HD disk icons at some time in the multi-reboot process; I let the installer "auto-choose" the disk and OS installation was successful ( see post #10366 on page 415)

I did not. I only made the switch to install on the internal SSD vs. USB. I was thinking I wouldn't need any post-install patches, but sounds I should have? What kind of improvements should I be expecting?

I just used OCLP 0.1.5 on my iMac Model 14,2 to upgrade to macOS 11.4 from 11.3.1 where all previous Big Sur upgrades had been done with the micropatcher. It is working well. I'm looking forward to receiving my first OTA upgrade when the time comes.

@hvds noticed the @dosdude1 patches migrated from Catalina into Big Sur may cause problems. Investigating further, removing the following items had no adverse effects and fixed a persistent crash and a boot hang issue, as a result -

/usr/local/sbin/patchupdaterd

/usr/local/sbin/apfshelperd

in fact, removing all of the @dosdude1 installed items from a OCLP Big Sur install had no negative effects, overall.

I find no problems with my Logitech M510 mouse. You may need to go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Input Monitoring to see if something important is unchecked.

Edit: Also note that if you change a setting, you may need to restart to put the change in effect.

Trying oclp 0.1.6, opencore 0.7.0, BigSur 11.3.1 with both my gt710 gpus.
I can see the oclp bootpicker, the verbose text output but then.... black screen again with just a mouse pointer, no desktop.

Here is some info on my gt710's
a. GV-N710D3-2GL, 2GB, uefi version 0x10033
b. GV-N710SL-1GL, 1GB, fanless, uefi version 0x10038

Any ideas would be welcome.

Excellent catch, Thanks! Other previous patch items like apfshelperd can go, too? 🧐
In my case it was a scripting tool for some Adobe software which I stopped using since long. Since I removed it in addition to the patchupdaterd, there are no new Console crash entries anymore.

Eventhough all went smooth with 11.4 install on my MacBook Air 4,2 mid 2011, I had to install post install legacy patch for graphics acceleration as per docs/guide. Using Latest OCLP 0.15. But pictures in photo is still distorted and when safari is opened and mouse moved you get strange graphics pixel distortions all over.

Thanks to all Developers for OCLP and others who have helped behind the scenes. Hope to see some solution in forth coming patches specially for Graphics.

I even tried to unpatch the post installation but it did not help.

The support list within the OCLP docs clearly states which systems are fully supported and which do not have a metal capable GPU and need patches.

You should probably edit your post because if leaves the wrong impression this system would run (barely usable) slow.

I was writing about the official OCLP docs linked in on the first post of this thread, on the OCLP GitHub page.

* Not officially supported in macOS Catalina, but are fully capable of running both Catalina and Big Sur with a Metal-compatible GPU and upgraded WiFi/BT card.

+ graphics acceleration added back by @ASentientBot (
OpenCore Legacy Patcher list of GPU support)

So I am pretty sure you ignored the lines I wrote as best as you could :) Sorry about that.

Updating my iMac11,3 with AMD RX480 and BCM943602CDP to 11.4 via software update was quite a journey. Needed several forced reboots to get it done.

iMac11,3-BS11.4.png

OCLP 0.1.5, minimal spoofing

Edit: Same with Late 2009, WX4150, stock BT. A single forced reboot necessary after this screen came up.
