Is there any method to change the Big Sur Menu Bar to be more useful? A Catalina black bar or by manipulating the transparency of only the Menu Bar, itself? Tried every possible Accessility/Display option, changed Desktop Pictures, nada. 😏 View attachment 1805335

Do you mean the menu bar that's lighter like in overlay?
It should be in multiply not overlay, but I don't know how to change it.

The problem was I needed to reset my NVRAM and PRAM by holding a certain key command
Well, I was getting problems with my wifi due a bluethoot dongle from Microsoft mouse and I started to do loops of pram, sac and I don't know how or when, I got my serial number erased. A IT tech told me that's very very rare and hard to do and he can't imagine how this could happen.

Theres a serializer, but I try it and got a verbose mode and goes directly to Big Sur. Until now, I just can't get hand off, iMessages, or codes for 2 step verification.

Ask @tsialex to rebuild your bootrom (this will not be a free of charge service). There will be no other way to get iCloud etc. working again. Send him a PM.

Hi All,

Has anyone managed to get VMware Fusion 12.0 or Parraells working on the Big Sur for an iMac 2009 i7 A1312 via OCLP?

I get this error on VMWare Fusion 12.0 - Failed to power on '/Users/mac/Virtual OS/Windows 7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmx'

I've tried a fresh install and same error, any suggestions?

Can't say about Parallels, but VMware Fusion stopped to work with 1st to 3rd generation Core processors with Big Sur, only 4th generation and newer processors are supported.

AFAIK, only 2012 and newer Macs still have Apple Hypervisor support with Big Sur, since 2013 Mac Pro still have a Xeon from the 4th generation.

iCloud can work. I can see the machine on my others devices, and all that, photos sync and Drive. An IT tech told me will work ok, but I only noticed for handoff and iMessage the problem.

Thbaks for the recomendation.

Thats because BigSur has Compatibility issue with your UPS. Try to visit UPS site and see if they have any firmware updates for BigSur

UPS firmware updates only exist for Windows, same for other "home UPS" manufacturers. They all seem to rely on the built in UPS functionality in macOS.

Greetings,

Currently rocking MacPro's 2008 & 2012 both patched to Catalina with dosdude1 patchers - both are running Metal GPUs. Both have update WiFi/Bluetooth cards which should be compatible, though to be honest it would not be an issue if neither worked.

Seems like OCLP is the way forward for Big Sur and/or Monterey - can anybody tell me how performance is on these machines with Big Sur ? And any indications so far on Monterey ?

I'm wondering whether to give it a go with Big Sur or (as per recent plan) wait for the next Mac Mini update with M1X or M2 (but of course no ETA on those)...

If you plan to update with OCLP it would be better as clean install as OCLP doesnot play well with already pre patched OS.

How's the performance compared to Catalina ? Any issues ? Have a 3.1 also, wondering whether to do it or not...
Request you to read the documentation of each thread of Big Sur as well as Monetry. Apple has dropped many hardware support in Monetry. Big Sur requires metal graphics. So do your study well before upgrading. Good luck.

Installed Big Sur on top of a @osdude1 Catalina install just fine. Be prepared to remove eveything with the word "dosdude1 and/or 'dd1' in the name w/FindAnyFile or EasyFind app once on Big Sur. Looks like pending OCLP is working to help out with that task. Ran perfect after the light cleaning. Go no further than macOS 11.2.3 for now to avoid going to the races. And as prevaling wisdom dictates - READ UP!!

As stated, both MacPro's running Metal GPUs. I know I can do the upgrades to both, question was more what's the performance like - the MacPro 2012 is my daily driver so needs to remain functional and speedy - that's less of an issue with the MacPro 2008 as I use it rarely (if I do go ahead, will likely use this as the test case.

Yes I am aware (and assumed anyway) that a clean install would be needed (always prefer that anyway) - I will keep a couple of cloned disk with Catalina on just in case though :)

my Mac Pro is an early 2009 dual 2.26ghz quad xeon 4,1 flashed to a 5,1. So, in between both your models.
I've got a GTX680 Mac bios flashed (metal), 24GB ram, BT4 Airport module and SSD's.
initially started with OCLP 0.1.6 with a clean BigSur 11.2.4, now running OCLP 0.2.3 with BigSur 11.4
this is my daily workhorse and no issues with response times or any rainbow wheels.
I did get the occasional boot hang with pre OCLP 0.2.3, but that was rectified with either a power button reboot, PRAM reset and/or SMC reset.
with 0.2.3, I've had no issues to date and it is just as fast as it was under previous OS's (if not, dare I say it, slightly snappier).
just make sure your time machine backups are up-to-date, just in-case ;)

Managed to update my MacPro 2008 to Bug Sur via OC - congrats to the team that made this even possible !

However I'm having issues with Disk Utility - even diskutil - while trying to format internal SSDs - it's failing to format any disks basically, just hangs forever. Is this a known issue ?

Also I ended up using 11.2.3 - Software Update is offering 11.4, am I take to take this route or do I need to do it via OC ?
