Managed to update my MacPro 2008 to Bug Sur via OC - congrats to the team that made this even possible !

However I'm having issues with Disk Utility - even diskutil - while trying to format internal SSDs - it's failing to format any disks basically, just hangs forever. Is this a known issue ?

Also I ended up using 11.2.3 - Software Update is offering 11.4, am I take to take this route or do I need to do it via OC ?
Stay with 11.2.3. Softwareupdate is offering an update because you use OpenCore. There are serious issues well known with your system using more recent macOS versions including the current Monterey Beta versions.

There are no problems known with the disk tools. I assume this is a problem of your system. Reboot and retry.

Ok will stay with 11.2.3 - it's anyway not my daily driver, was an experiment to see if I could get it to Big Sur and eventually Monterey, which I'll now wait for.

Disk Utility was weird, but it's fine now after attaching all the other SSDs to an external disk box on my MacPro 2012 and reformatting them. Possibly was some remnant of ReFind and/or Ubuntu on them that was causing some issues.

What's the best way to clone a drive now ? Usually I have the O/S on a PCI-based disk, but currently it's sitting on a normal disk in Bay 1 - usually I'd use CCC to clone it, but that seems to have completely given up with any sort of cloning of boot drives with Big Sur !.

There is no best way, I always recommend trying macOS internal tools and it looks like one could get this done using asr these days.

macOS11.5 final via OTA update from 11.5b5, OCLP 0.2.3 - so far, so good. Update was hands-off, OCLP did everything. Had to perform Item #3 after the update rebooted due to Metal deficiency of "primitive" Mac. 🙈

11.5 release.jpg

Hiccup cured - 0n subsequent reboots experienced two freezes requiring the power button. Installed OCLP TUI Nightly v.0.2.4 re-applied steps #1,2 and 3 - works without fail, now.

Where are you guys getting the latest 11.5 RC? The initial post hasn’t been updated since 11.4.

Greetings;

Will this happen to a Mac Pro 5,1 having a SATA SSD as the boot drive with the latest Bluetooth/WiFi card?

Thank you.

I installed Big Sur 11.4 on my 2012 Mac Mini yesterday (core i7 with 8GB RAM) using Patched Sur and everything seems to be functioning, but I'm getting crashes occasionally. I think they happen when I download something and open the .dmg file. When the computer restarts it will show the opened .dmg file so it downloaded it just fine, but crashed opening it. It doesn't seem to happen all the time either.

I can provide the crash logs if that will help. They don't mean anything to me though.

Is there any method to change the Big Sur Menu Bar to be more useful? A Catalina black bar or by manipulating the transparency of only the Menu Bar, itself? Tried every possible Accessility/Display option, changed Desktop Pictures, nada. 😏View attachment 1805335
There is a tool called
"boring old menu bar" or BOMB
Works great and has some more options like rounded corners etc.
Downside is only that it´s not free (it runs for a trial period, then has to be purchased).

Is there a way to watch Netflix with safari on iMac 2010 (2k) not with chrome in 720p?
Yes, by adding a more recent AMD metal card like I have them you get hardware DRM back. Using a stock HD5xxxx I am pretty sure your cannot enable it. Big Sur dropped all software decoders and your hardware has no supported hardware to decode.

Seems to work, ok. Much thanks for the lead. 👀
There's also this program which claims to do it for free, I haven't tried it but maybe it will work for what you need?

Says it works on Big Sur

Just curious if anyone on a Late 2013 iMac had upgraded to Big Sur on a different install utility, but then updated to 11.5 clean install while using the OpenCore app. Any problems?

Done, but I will not update the list any longer, please use this tool to get macOS updates in future. Has been posted here several times, the latest download link, too. There is a search button where you can search the thread ....
Hello again

but this tool say that is just for windows, can't be executed on Mac, see the image

there is a link to get BigSur 11.2.3?

Best Regards

Read the Github download page carefully. It has macOS and Windows scripts.

Please check the first post off this thread for download links. Anyway you should have started reading with the first post. It is a documentation….

but this tool say that is just for windows, can't be executed on Mac
just rightclick "gibMacOS.command" and select open.
then click "open anyway".
It should immediately open a terminal-window and the program will list all the available downloads of the "publicrelease"-catalog.
