MBP 8,2 I am trying to upgrade from Catalina but the install keeps failing with 12 minutes to go on the indicator with a message about failed download of updates. Network is up and working. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I try to fix it. Many thanks...

Maybe try using gibMacOS to download Big Sur installer manually.

MBP5,2 updated to 11.6.5 release candidate(?) OTA from 11.6.4 which was installed from InstallAssistant.pkg. Using OCLP 0.4.3 nightly from 14 Feb. Using an external SSD for betas or non-final releases.
I thought I saw the 20G517 earlier as a 11.6.4.

Ach so.

Alles gute.
Oh, and I just had a look at 0.4.3N without installing it: There's a new option in the non-metal settings. You can check "Dark menu bar". So the issue is known and already solved.

EDIT: Now I removed the spelling mistakes. Auto-correction went crazy, just because I answered to two lines in German. 🙈 Zum Mäusemelken!

hi all!!
i went back from monterey to big sur on mb 5,2, everything is working except trackpad and volume keys.
My question is, can we use the kext files and the txt file that we used on catalina on big sur?

used OCLP 0.43N

does anyone know how to gain access to prefpanes so i can test the trackpad.prefpane moded on mb5,2?

Hi, maybe some of you have had the same problem updating big sur as I have. I wasn't able to do a delta OTA update from 11.6.2 to 11.6.3. The update was downloaded, prepared and asked for a restart. Upon restarting the mac, the process somehow is not initialized. In order to update I had to use a full installer to create a bootable usb.
Now from 11.6.3 to 11.6.4 I'm having the same issue. The OTA update process goes well up to the restart point.
This is an unpatched macOS installation I'm running with SIP enabled since my 2012 iMac is fully compatible via OCLP.
I've tried pressing the opt key at boot and I see a volume named MacOS install which I think corresponds to the com.apple.os.update snapshot created by softwareupdate. Choosing this volume leads to a gray symbol that it can't go on.
Pressing opt and then spacebar shows no other option to carry on the update installation.
Can somebody give me a clue to solve this issue.
Additional information:
iMac model 13,1 (late 2012 - i5), 16GB Ram, Nvidia Geforce640M gpu
Latest firmware (425.000...)
macOS big sur 11.6.3 running from external SSD through thunderbolt, internal HD for archiving and time machine only.
OCLP 0.4.2 with minimal spoofing, SIP and SSV turned on, installed on the SSD EFI partition

Not sure I've understood correctly. You go via OCLP to boot an installed system, right? If so...
The same applies to all booting happening during an installation. So at that point, after you pressed to opt key, you need to select the OCLP EFI, not the MacOS Install. Then when the OCLP boot picker comes up, select the MacOS Install (which could be called Macintosh HD there). - In both cases, when selecting OCLP EFI from the Apple boot picker and the installer from the OCLP boot picker, it is good to press ctrl (the arrow under the icon will become circular) then click, so the selection will persist during the subsequent installation bootings.
What I don't understand is why the installation didn't proceed automatically after preparation, and you needed the opt key. In any case when using OCLP, it is good to make OCLP persist as the default boot option (with crtl-click in the Apple boot picker).
A word about patching: when booting macOS or the installer via OCLP, it is true that things are not patched on disk; but a lot is modified in memory. While with post-install volume patch (which you don't need if I understand correctly), some additional things are patched on disk.
But I'm sure the explanation at https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher#readme is much better than I can do.

Man, you nailed it.
"Then when the OCLP boot picker comes up, select the MacOS Install (which could be called Macintosh HD there)"
"when selecting OCLP EFI from the Apple boot picker and the installer from the OCLP boot picker, it is good to press ctrl (the arrow under the icon will become circular) then click, so the selection will persist during the subsequent installation bootings."

Those two bits of information was what I was missing and I don't think they're explicitly stated elsewhere. I'd suggest you submit this step by step to the official documentation for cases like mine.
Thanks so much.

Well, well,
check the OCLP online docs again carefully...

I just upgraded my 2012 Mac Pro with a Radeon HD 7950. It took me 2 days to figure out why the EFI Boot was not loaded, but it was not the OCLP 0.4.2's fault. I am just cyber stupid. I used the GUI version, and it was much slicker than I was used to with the Terminal version I had used in the past. Once I had figured out that I had to load EFI Boot onto the USB stick itself, it went smooth as silk.
I am sure this has been asked before, but there is no search engine that I have found to locate the answer: I am getting notifications of native updates in System Preferences as I had before. I corrupted my OS in the past by trying this. Can you now easily do native updates with this new patcher?

Just curious: Did you patch your system after installation at all?

Using OTA updates through the Apple software updater process is an integral part of this solution. You cannot really corrupt your system using it unless you made some nasty mistakes and did not finish the OCLP installation to the internal disk. Check the OCLP online docs in any case.

Thanks for the reply. “Post Installation” button was grayed out on the GUI version of OCLP 0.4.2. I don’t know why. I had used the Terminal version before. I had assumed, that I didn’t need it with the GUI. It was grayed out pre and post installation if I remember correctly

Problem with 11.6.4 on 2010 mac pro 5.1. It’s crazy. I used to have a happily running 2010 mac pro 5.1 running big sur 11.6.3 until I upgraded to 11.6.4. Now the system does not boot anymore. I even tried to install 11.6.1 it hangs right after cryptoalloc(). Graphic card is NVIDIA GTX 680 2 GB, OCLP 0.4.2

Just wanted to make sure your system is not needing the post installation and technically your system is not patched at all. You can expect to get the small delta (OTA) updates offered by Apple via softwareupdate and it should work unless Apple invents a new small change which needs a CPU feature only available on 2012+ CPUs or something similar.

Check and read the OLCP change logs of all versions newer than the one installed to keep track of this. And possibly update OCLP before updating macOS. This is even more important for Monterey.

Looks like a PRAM/NVRAM Reset fixed it

Months ago, my 9,2 lost the serial number. I got stuck in 11.3 and never update because I was loads of work on that machine. There's a serializer that I was trying but every time I tried, I got an EFI Boot. No the media in the reboot.

I installed Big Sur on that machine via micro patcher. Now, I got a new machine and I decide to came back to Catalina on it. I wipe all the hard drive, the usb, the sd card that I used in the past and just to try again, made a new boot loader of serializer, and still got EFI boot on the machine. Even I created it in the new machine.

What can I do?
The Catalina installer now its not showing the EFI boot. It needed a complete wipe out to get rid of it.

Thank you very much.

macOS 11.6.5RC1 atop 11.6.5b2 OTA via OCLP_043N, always impressive.

View attachment 1966882
MBP5,2: 11.6.5RC (20G525) installed over previous version. Using OCLP latest 0.4.3n version as boot EFI and for post-install patching.

The system is on an external SSD connected via USB3 (nanoTECH expresscard with FL1100). It can be booted from there thanks to OCLP XHCI Boot setting. So despite external SSD things run quite fast.
(The OCLP EFI used is on the internal disk not on USB3 as the Apple boot selector can't see it there.)
