Hi!

I am now in Big Sur, with a 2010 15" MBP.
Works fine.

But, I have one problem.
The system do not accept my username and password ???
(I am sure, that I am no wrong).

Did not found any information about my error.
Just because things like that have happened to me: Caps Lock? US keyboard layout?

Just to add that in case you have installed OpenCore Legacy Patcher you need to hold down the Escape key to see the OpenCore boot picker.
I tried installing Big Sur with OCLP and Radeon RX580 but got no boot picker with pressing option key. Pressing escape key is completely new to me - has it worked?

Salve, qualcuno ha riscontrato un problema con il lettore DVD mac?, all'avvio si chiude con la scritta "chiusura imprevista del lettore DVD". Ho iMac 12,2 con OCLP

I am experiencing the following bizarre situation (not always).
Sometimes, when I shutdown my iMac, as soon as it shuts down, it immediately restarts, I get the known error message that says "your mac has shutdown unexpectedly etc." (ie. like what you get when there was a power loss), and I get back to the desktop. I then shutdown again and it shutdowns normally.
This does not happen all the time. Most of the times the iMac shutdowns without any problem, but every one in 5 times I experience the above.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

That is what happens if you get a panic during shutdown. So now you 'just' need to investigate why you've got an intermittent panic during shutdown. Possibly verbose boot will let you see at which stage it is happening, and or else you need to investigate kernel log - plus anything ofc which you have changed recently.

I read somewhere that you need to delete the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist file. I just did that. I will keep checking and see if that fixed it.

Firmware in your mini says 9999.xxxx (maxed out) because of earlier OCLP spoofing method of faking to a newer mini (let's say 2014 mini) so that later macOS can be installed/ran.

To prevent Big Sur from updating the firmware on 2012 mini incorrectly, the version is maxed out to block any update.

By updating to current OCLP version, it uses spoof-less (hiding behind VM install), can present as true 2012 mini so no need to set firmware version to 9999.xxxx.

- update to OCLP 0.4.2
- run SilentKnight again to check firmware version (it should show true version instead of 9999.xxxx)
- may not need to reinstall Big Sur over the top but do that if macOS not working well

Catalina still gets Security Updates once in a long while. If there is a firmware update, it is bundled in there. Applying the security updates will also apply the firmware update.

- prepare a Catalina USB installer
- prepare a partition (50GB) to install it to
- reboot, hit spacebar at show picker, reset NVRAM (bypass OCLP)
- option reboot to select Catalina USB installer
- install Catalina, boot into it, run all software updates
- run SilentKnight to confirm firmware updated

- option reboot, select OCLP EFI boot
- CTRL select Big Sur to boot back into OCLP Big Sur

Need root patching (post install) to use HD4000 graphics acceleration. Breaks SSV and SIP but it is not really a big concern if you do it. Keeping SIP enabled is overrated.
Hi again! Just getting around to finally doing this. Question on the firmware update... once I update to the latest OCLP, it should unspoof firmware. Then wouldn't the Big Sur update automatically add the latest firmware, or would I still need Catalina b/c the 2012 mini is "officially" unsupported on Big Sur?

Also, if the firmware update is gonna be a regular thing, can I just add a Catalina partition to the internal SSD?

Last, is there a way to set OCLP to update automatically? Thanks.

I have same model mini on Big Sur w/ OCLP 0.4.2 running smoothly.

a. I would update OCLP to 0.4.2 or 0.4.3(latest) and reinstall Big Sur over the top (will keep data and files).
I think this will also move from OCLP spoofing method to spoof-less method.

b. Also suspect that your firmware is not up to date.
Download SilenKnight, run that and tell us what is firmware version.

If outdated firmware, you should look into creating a small partition (internal or external disk of 50GB) to install official supported macOS Catalina and run through all software updates which will in turn update mini to latest firmware.
Update: Attached is my latest SilentKnight screenshot. Looks like I was on firmware 421 all along. So could the issues just be from OCLP 0.3.0? I updated to OCLP 0.4.4 just now.

You will need to boot to Catalina and perform a software update to get the latest firmware 427.
P.S. It seems the quotes in your signature field are cross-matched to the names. It would be wise to publish your Mac specs instead for better serving the purpose of this forum.

Bingo. Big Sur updates would not be touching/updating 2012 mini firmware.

Yes, you can if you want to (create a separate partition).

No, as far as I know. You need to update the OCLP app, build and install that version to the specific boot EFI.

Latest firmware is 429.xxxx

Thanks for the heads up. My signature was a joke from a long time ago, when people were putting quotes all over their profiles. Lincoln obviously never said that! I'll update it, but I still kinda still like it. Is this too much?!

Thanks for the reply. I updated OCLP to 0.4.4 and updated firmware to 429.xxxx via a new internal Catalina volume (surprisingly easy for future access). It was all a lot easier than I thought it would be. I was just really anxious about doing it b/c I didn't rmr how I setup OCLP and didn't wanna mess it up.

However, this morning I did have the same issue with a safari tab closing on it's own. Opened a new link in a tab and a couple seconds later it just closed on it's own. Too soon to tell on other issues but this one remains. Do you have any thoughts on what else it could be?

my pervious attempts all failed, after it 'restores' it hangs and i am forced to do a clean install.

Really want to start using my 5.1 and ditch this awful MBP 15 (T2) GARBAGE!!!!!!

Question to users of MacBook 4,1 and @ASentientBot :
The basic installation with OCLP 0.6.9 / macOS 11.4 (betas 1...3) and patcher settings for MacBook4,1 works as expected, initially without framebuffer (and OpenGL, which will prob'ly never reach the x3100 GPU).
As with Mojave and Catalina on this machine, I'd like to at least see the full framebuffer (144MB).
Whenever I patch the boot volume with the OC patcher for this machine, I get the forever-spinning white wheel during boot, shortly before the user login screen. I know this behaviour might come from modified/replaced skylight and other frameworks that re-enable OpenGL on old GPUs. I'd like to skip this and just have the two/three x3100 kexts needed for the framebuffer-acceleration. How can this be done? The default skript for the MB4,1 does not take that into account (as nice as it is to have it included!).
Or are there already any success stories on the MB4,1 and I'm just getting it wrong?
Advice appreciated...!
Almost a year passed since I/you tried this Big Sur in the 4,1. I'm trying to do some stuffs again.
You, in some posts mentioned that you had success with usb input on oclp in some cases, and I wasn't able to, but I just thought, maybe it can be the difference between beta and release..?
You said that you tried it in macOS 11.4 (Beta 1~3), while I did it in 11.2 release..
Maybe can this make the difference?..
Thanks. :D

Do you know the exact version of the beta that you had installed on the machine at that time..?
(I'm curious if you also have the EFI of OpenCore that worked, to compare with the latest version)

Just chiming in to say that I've upgraded from Big Sur 11.6.6 to 11.6.7 while on OCLP 0.4.5.

Upgrade took nearly 40 minutes on a MacPro 5,1 with Samsung NVMe SSD.

Machine running smoothly after two reboots, will likely upgrade to OCLP 0.4.6 for eventual upgrade to Monterey.
