I decided not to go past 11.6.1 on either of my 2012's.
Likewise, I am hesitant and will be staying with Big Sur, for now, on my 2012 mini.

However, it is very tempting when I see Monterey offered up everytime in Software Update panel.

did you have to do anything special to get 12.1b installed.
I have MBP 8,1 and once 12.1b is downloaded, computer reboots starts install. reboots and gets stuck on black screen with apple logo and doesn't load.
I have attempted to download the beta twice with the same results.
running latest GitHub OCLP CLI and it appears to work fine in 12.01
Install this: https://nightly.link/dortania/OpenC...build-app/rdrand/OpenCore-Patcher-TUI.app.zip The RDRAND/SurPlus version.

I finally was able to install Monterey on my 2011 MBP 15" (disabled dGPU and removed resistor) after a few hiccups using OPLP 0.3.1. Initially, I tried making the installer on a FW800 HDD, using a partition on it, but couldn't make it to the setup screen. Then I made one on a USB stick... got stuck on the black verbose screen, but finally got to the setup after a few tries. The install seemed to be going ok, but then got stuck. After a restart, it took some time, but it finally finished installing. Then I applied the patches.

Doesn't seem usable enough as a daily driver atm. There's some graphics artifacts in the Finder drop down menus, side bar and Safari. Vertical scrolling in Messages is slow. I can't get past the, "What's new" dialog in Maps. Clicking on "Done" doesn't advance. Widgets are wonky... can't edit them. A few other things that I can't remember. Bluetooth is working.

I'll keep an eye on things to see how it progresses, but I'll stick with my Mojave boot SSD for now I guess.

Edit: A couple other things I noticed. Utilities like Lab Tick and Macs Fan Control don't start at login, even though they're selected too.

OCLP 0.3.2 doesn't work for me. Gets stuck on the Apple logo screen.
Same problems with a Macbook Pro 17" 2011, dGPU disabled here. Artifacts also in a non disabled dGPU. It´s really a pity.

Does this mean the fab OCLP team has some code in place to make 12.1b1 work on older non-ivybridge Macs?
Surely not already?
As K two said - this RDRAND branch of OCLP does it. Running 12.1b1 happily on a MBP5,2 which has a Penryn T9600 CPU (and a NVIDIA Tesla 9400M / 9600M GT GPU which is non-Metal). It works very well, I like it better than Big Sur because when using Reduced Transparency, it doesn't have grahpics artefacts e.g. around the cursor.
To my knowledge the freezing of Safari is yet to be solved. I'm using FireFox instead.

Interesting: Some combination of OCLP (0.3.2n) / Monterey 12.1b1 / root volume patch (Kepler) again rendered DisplayPort unusable... Metal accel works (on DVI), but 2nd screen stays dark. This is on MP3,1 with GK107 GPU (GT630).
The boot args for agdpmod=vit9696 are still active in the EFI config, but to no effect any more.
Any clues, @vit9696 et al?

Hi,
Couldn't find any answers to my problem so I'll ask for your help.
I have a 2015 MacBook 12", I created the installer USB drive and installed OCLP 0.3.1 on it.
Installer starts but after a while I get an error message that "a required firmware update could not be installed". At this point I can't do anything, only to reinstall Big Sur and start again.
I also tried to install OCLP to my SSD on Big Sur and ran the installer as a normal system update, but it stopped after about 2 minutes with an error message (can't remember the exact message, but it simply said it's failed, try again).

Did anyone else had the same issue? What should I try? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the info, sorry to sound basic. So when 12.1 comes out, I can update OTA then just install the post installation patch, is that it?
yes, if you have not applied the post-install patch. But it may not be necessary. Please publish your Mac spec in the signature field so that you can receive more help, and also help others.

Hi there,

I have an iMac 14.2 late 2013 with SSD and after installing MacOS 12.0.1 it boots very slowly. Apps take a long time to start. I patched my installation with the OCLP 0.31.

Now and then it freezes completely.

Do I have to pay attention to anything that I have overlooked?

thanks
