Wondering if it is worth doing on my 2013 MacBook Air 13, has the i5 processor 256gb ssd and 8gb ram, running Big Sur perfect.

S/B OK, our old Macs are NVIDIA. Now running 12.2b1 w/OCLP_033R and finding it superior to 12.1, so far. Only avail OTA, as yet. Use Offline Variant if WI/FI, only. Not required w/good Ethernet.
MBP4,1 17-inch Early 2008 successfully updated OTA to 12.2 Beta Build 21D5025f via OCLP 0.3.3. TUI offline.
Didn't fiddle with spoof settings, got the OTA update via Terminal:

Code:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil enroll DeveloperSeed

Thanks for your kind help, K two.

Q: Should I run Silent Knight after a Monterey update? So far, it didn't find any new software, compared to Catalina, where it was always appropriate to check, MRT was out of date after each Catalina update... what say you?

It should be fine, so go ahead and let us know what happens.

I have same Haswell MBA and have not gone Monterey with OCLP, yet.

My thinking is:
- Monterey seems buggy still
- Nothing that screams I must have it
- OCLP is still moving a bit (significant changes still)

So I have been putting it off.

Plus it is nice to have at least one Mac not tampered with and running w/ no issues.

Keeping X-Protect and MRT current is always a good practice. There is piece on the do's and don'ts w/SK, here: https://eclecticlight.co/2021/12/17/using-silentknight-to-download-updates/

Thank you K two for your help. The article explains and answers all questions.

Q: A problem I can't solve is how to perform a clean install of Monterey on my MBP4,1 Early 2008. I tried 3 days from 3 different USB drives, in case one might have got hosed (as you suggested). To no avail. I was stuck with Big Sur until the OTA update did the job.

Would you be so kind to let me have your expert advice here? High appreciation in advance.

?12.2b1 is the best Monterey tried, so far. Where does the USB fail in the process? Is it being launched from the OCLP boot-picker? Aside - Really impressed with Safari 15.3 for a change.

Thank you for your fast reply, K two.

Positive, I boot into the USB from the boot picker, then select the Monterey installer in the next screen. Standard procedure into Monterey installation, which says about 30mins. for the update. After that time the installation reboots into boot picker, then proceeds with auto-selection of Macintosh HD now showing Monterey colours in circle graphical element on the HD symbol, then boots back to previous installation, which had stayed untouched.

Can you make something of it?
Highly appreciatively awaiting your response, K two.

Side-note: What impresses you with Safari 15.3? I‘m always eager to learn from you

Sounds like you missed an important step.

Did you Option boot and select EFI boot? That step loads OCLP and allows the installer to proceed.

Describe what happens when you try to "upgrade".
Yup. I did the option boot to efi and then chose install Monterey. When the recovery menu comes up, I choose install Mac Monterey. It begins the installation, but eventually it just errors out. I have received the two errors that I noted previously. I will try again today and see if I can provide additional details.

Welp, after three days later I'm convinced 2014 MBP (MacBook 11,3) has not been thoroughly tested with OCLP. Either that or my MBP has some anomaly. Maybe my display that's been replaced by Apple is causing some conflict. This isn't my first mod/hack.

I've tried two USB flash drives, two SSDs, OpenCore Patcher GUI & TUI versions, SIP+SecureBootModel options, approx 10 erases/formats, same disk/different disk combos of EFI partitions for the OpenCore patcher, verified that the EFI actually contained OC folder via Terminal, and everything else you can think of.

The only way I was actually able to see Monterey on my machine was to install Monterey via the Base OS System aka "macOS Installer" disk that appears in the boot list (after installing Monterey). I believe the Base OS System is the source of all recovery disks right? So basically the OCLP installed Monterey but I could not get the the Monterey desktop screen. But since it has that recovery OS I could install Monterey via that which took another 20 minutes on top of the initial Monterey install of 20 minutes. So I had to use OCLP to install the Base OS System of Monterey then use the Base OS System recovery disk to install Monterey.

Even then I could only boot into Monterey via SafeMode, and since I could only get Ito SafeMode I could not install the OCLP (post install volume) into the internal SSD's EFI partition even though SIP/SecureBootModel was disabled.

I tried the official Discord, Reddit, Youtube as well. On all those channels, no one is using OCLP with MacBook 11,3. It's all older machines.

In my Macbook Pro 15" 2014 Monterey was perfect.

It’s definitely just your machine. What is your BootRom version on your mbp11,3?

Should be MBP112.0138.B16 If not, check this link.

This GitHub says there are issues with (MacBook Pro 11,3) re: Nvidia.

And depending on your MacBook Pro order many people will have different GPUs. People without a Nvidia GPU might be the ones who are successfully booting.

Nope. As I told you, you only have to boot in safe mode and apply patches. You can also disable de dGPU before, if you like.

  • sudo nvram FA4CE28D-B62F-4C99-9CC3-6815686E30F9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00
After installing, just reset the NVram

Thanks guys. Will check tomorrow when I wake up.

It's definitely Nvidia or BootRom (on 11,3) issue.

A guy on Discord also said that 11,3 needs something different. I'll have to read up on it some more but it's evident that my machine is the culprit.

I may have to get an M1 just so I can use Swift 5.5. Thanks Timmy Apple.

I have just remenbered one thing. Once I couldn´t see the "Macos Installer" volume after first part of installkation, after first reboot , I mean. I used then a SATA to USB and ,voilá, it was there.

Do you have one of these?

After installing in the SSD I cloned it to the NVME

OCLP cannot be installed to SSD EFI partition in SafeMode on my machine. I get EFI cannot be mounted error. I tried post install volume.

I don't have one of those but it's ok. I'll figure out a solution in a couple of days. May require M1 with crappy notch that they'll probably get rid of in 2022. lol

Thanks for your help guys.

You don´t have to install OCLP. Just apply patches. Then boot again from the USB and isntall OCLP in normal boot.

I don't understand. If OpenCore sees the "macOS Installer" item after the Monterey installer has started, then it should automatically select that and continue booting - no keypresses required until you get to the setup GUI. It will reboot about four times, each time it will enter OpenCore and continue the installation automatically.

This is what I saw while installing Big Sur and Monterey to my MacPro3,1. I selected minimum spoof before installing OCLP. The process was similar to my iMac14,2.

Installing Big Sur 11.6.1
8:49 begin
8:55 auto restart into "macOS installer" through OpenCore; says "About 29 minutes remaining..."
9:20 auto restart into "macOS installer" through OpenCore; lots of verbose text
9:26 auto restart into "Big Sur" through OpenCore; verbose text
9:30 auto restart into "Big Sur" through OpenCore
9:31 Big Sur setup GUI appears; for some reason it defaults to WiFI - I select other network connection to do LAN

Installing Monterey 12.0.1
10:20 begin: says "About 17 minutes remaining..."
10:26 auto restart into "macOS installer" through OpenCore; says "About 29 minutes remaining..."
10:54 auto restart into "macOS installer" through OpenCore; lots of verbose text
10:59 auto restart into "Monterey" through OpenCore; verbose text
11:01 auto restart into "Monterey" through OpenCore
11:02 Monterey setup GUI appears; doing Migration Assistant from dosdude1 Catalina (no problems, ≈60 GB of stuff to migrate)
01:14 auto restart into "Monterey" through OpenCore
01:18 auto restart into "Monterey" through OpenCore

Update from 12.0.1 to 12.1
02:04 auto restart into "Macintosh HD" through OpenCore to do update
02:09 auto restart into "Monterey" through OpenCore

The patches are for graphics etc. But if you want to be able to boot without USB flash drive, you need to build/install OCLP into SSD EFI partition.

In Macbook Pro 15" 2014 , after intalling you only can see a black screen, tough you can listen to asistant voice. Only after apply patches in safe mode you can see the normal screen.
