Hi all,

I have my Mac Pro 3.1 that starts to sleep correctly after disabling the connect drivers option.
This work well for many days but, after a forced restart, it stopped sleeping correctly.
To be precise, it goes to sleep (I hear the "relay click"), but immediately it wakes up from sleep.

I have already tried to disconnect the network, detach the USB devices, etc. without success.
The Mac Pro is also connected to a UPS, I have also tried to detach the UPS USB cable but it wakes up immediately even without the UPS USB cable connected.
There is something I can do to restore the correct sleep function?

Thanks

My fault was I patched the boot volume to soon after booting into safe mode uninstalling patches rebooting entering password allowed the installer to continue out of interest the loading bar for Monterey is after entering the password so if I switch on my MacBook I get a one second Apple logo then the log in screen , log in get the progress bar when trying to patch again on fresh install with opencore the progress bar moved back to under the Apple as normal enter password straight to desktop this because of a change in opencore patching?
Anyway 12.2 beta running great .

Exactly what I am working on right now. Will report back on how it goes.
OK. So I was finally able to install Monterey and migrated from a TM backup. Everything is working I think, but it is sooooooo slow. I mean, I move the mouse and then maybe 20 seconds later the cursor moves. I suspect this is a hardware acceleration issue, but I can't even get back to OCLP to complete the install and fix the graphics. I am continuing to try.

I had successfully installed Monterey but after migrating documents and files from a Big Sur Carbon Copy Cloner backup using Migration Assistant it seems to be hanging on the Apple logo. About a quarter of the progress bar.

To be more clear.

1. Not using the option key and just safe mode booting into Monterey works

2. Using the option key then going via internal EFI then via Safe Mode into Monterey also works

**But both those options brings me to the "Migration is complete. Restart your computer for migration to compete" window. This is in Safe Mode of course.

Then when it restarts it hangs on Apple logo.

The other thing is when I remove the USB flash drive I don't get any boot options when I restart. Completely blank screen. Even though I already installed OCLP into the internal EFI.

EDIT: Was reading through this thread and someone said

Migration Assistant is buggy in Monterey.(crashes, resulting in KP after reboot) You should try to migrate data in Big Sur and then do OTA update to Monterey.)
Does this mean I'm hooped? Do I have to install Monterey AGAIN?

Well. I was finally able to get it all working and am actually typing this message from a Monterey install. I have black boxes throughout the software though, so I am not sure how to fix that. The biggest thing is that when I try to open Photos, I see all of the options on the menubar, but never actually see the app. I read about distorted images, but I don't recall any issues with the app just not opening.

Working perfectly on my iMac 27" Late 2013 CPU i7 24GB RAM & NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M.
IMPORTANT for ALL 1Password and Monterey users!
I just discovered and solved a problem with the 1Password Extension!

Safari's Preferences prevents from enabling the 1Password Extension box, by claiming that an active Service prevents it.
This happens exactly also with Catalina installed on Macs not supported using the Catalina dosdude1 patch.
However, while with Catalina patched there is no way to activate the various Safari Extensions and all attempts fail... in macOS Monterey 12.1, however, I was able to enable 1Password Extension by restarting the Mac in Safe Mode; so I restarted the Mac normally and the 1Password Extension works fine now.

Tccplus takes care of it in Catalina.

Updated a MBP mid 2012 (with upgrade WiFi card) using OC 0.3.3 to 12.1 Monterrey. Amazing work on the patcher and post installation patch functionality. This is my 1st installation to an unsupported MAC. I am impressed how fast and well the 9 year old MBP functions with Monterrey. So far the only issue on installed Apps is OOKLA SpeedTest - it crashes at launch on the unsupported MBP - works well in my other supported MACs. Is anyone else having issues with this APP? (Their web site works fine)

do not have artifacts/glites your MBP?

Dock, on the edges?

Thank you K two for providing insight. Your advice is as always concise and straight to the point.
I tried out several USBs but hadn't thought about the systematic error stemming from the USBs being a potential/likely source for the malfunctioning Monterey upgrade process.

The HP stick is not available in my country, so I ordered a SanDisk Cruzer, as per your recommendation. Delivery is tomorrow, I will then attempt the clean install as per your instructions.

Q: Clean install via FireWire? The MBP4,1 is equipped with a reliable FireWire800 port, which is quite fast. In OpenCore-patcher I saw an option for FireWire. Would that be a functioning method? I have 2 FireWire800 external drives, but would n o t risk trying them out without (your) expert recommendation, as the MBP4,1 is my o n l y machine.

Please accept my sincere thanks and highest appreciation for your kind help, K two.
Neither of the FireWire enclosures here are fully compatible with APFS so firsthand idk, sorry. There is a FW option in OCLP, good luck. ?

Re-install OCLP_033TUI Steps#1,2 and 3 to your boot drive, restart <option/alt> when the OCLP icon appears hold <control> until the arrow sub-icon becomes circular press <RETURN>. If your intended boot disk is selected in the Startup Disk CP, the Mac will boot as normal. ;)

FireWire 800 HDDs are working fine for me using that OCLP option; that means it's working fine for booting an installed macOS (High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, Snow Leopard), both from HFS+ and APFS file systems.
But the Apple installers since Catalina refuse to install to FireWire drives; in order to install or OTA update, I have to connect the HDD via USB.

What enclosures are in use?

Let's say migration assistant is buggy and cause kernel panic. Some options:

Option A
- don't use migration assistant
- sometime it is good to start all over
- installing apps is trivial
- copying files from backup is not hard
- getting apps to point to library such as photos, music, etc is a bit more involved but doable

Option B
- Erase Monterey, install Big Sur
- do migration assistant
- Install OCLP EFI and option boot to it
B1 - Pick Monterey installer - install again or
B2 - In Big Sur, do the OTA to Monterey (offered up in Software Update)
- Safemode boot Monterey to do post-install vol patch

Yeah I just used the same USB to install Monterey again and since Monterey and data was already on disk nothing really changed except the fact I had to boot into SafeMode again and do the Post Install Volume patch again which is only 10 seconds.

I figured the re-install would fix the Migration Assistant horror and it did. It actually brought me to the previous Welcome screen of Migration Assistant again as if I had never used it in the first place. So this time I just quit Migration Assistant.

I will just copy and download applications over the manual way. It's ok because my system will be cleaner anyway. Less crap.

For anyone interested, the Post Install Volume Patcher for the MacBook Pro 11,3 (Nvidia not Iris Pro) downloads these binaries/kexts.

post install.png

There are definitely some caveats unique to the MacBook Pro 11,3 (Nvidia not Iris Pro).

1. Monterey will technically self-reboot at the last stage into the Monterey AppleID screen, but it hangs on the Apple logo so you have to manually reboot into SafeMode for the last reboot.
2. Post Install Volume Patch needs to be done *first before building/installing OCLP into internal EFI. I believe this is because security in SafeMode doesn't allow mounting of disk0s1.
3. Migration Assistant from Big Sur -> Monterey will hoop everything.

Hope this helps any others with the same MacBook Pro 11,3 (Nvidia not Iris Pro).
