Got a mid 2014 MacBook Pro was thinking support for these models wouldn’t be dropped until we had the new MacBooks with sd card reader and old ports (as there is all the talk of the ports coming back) still used opencore nightly build and all seems to be working well Thanks to the people that make it easy for end users to do.

I've never gotten OC to work. I've done TonyMacx86 hacks, KVMs, VirtualBox and VMWare but not OC.

Hopefully there are some really easy directions in this thread on how to do this.
Give the OCLP a try.

It generates the complete OC config and you do not need to touch it, ever! It is basically a sophisticated semi automatic OC generator just for unsupported Macs. Currently we have the transition phase to allow basic installation on all 2013+ models without any changes, later the older machines will be supported, it needs some adjustments and time.

Do not forget:
It is the first Beta Apple released to the public. We will see a lot of water going down the Rhein/Donau/Nil whatever before having a complete solution for everyone. And we will face some surprises Apple provides the close we get to the final pre-release-beta versions.

I'm quite impressed with the quality of this beta. I'm using it for production for a week to see if there's anything that's a real problem. Easy to do with an OS on an external drive.

Perfectly working on a Late 2013 13" rMBP. Everything works, and it seems sooo much faster than Big Sur!

I'm going to go through this whole thread to figure out how to upgrade or install Monterey on my 2014 MacBook Pro now. It occurs to me that I don't currently have anything on the laptop that needs to be saved so I can just play with the internal though I do have another external SSD I could use. I think that I'll play it safe and backup the system (three times) and then try to install directly on it. This is the laptop I use when I'm mobile. I use the 2015 more as a desktop.

I see OCLP but I actually don't know what it stand for but I should in about an hour.

Well, I can confirm that the first beta of macOS 12.0 seems to run without any quirks on my iMac Mac (Retina 5K, 27", Mid-2015), model identifier iMac15,1. WiFi works, Bluetooth works, accellerated graphics work (AMD Radeon R9 M290), sound works……

I don’t get why Apple wants to ditch my iMac in first place. ?

I mean, come on…… just because it’s not LATE 2015 but Mid-2015! ?

It has 5K! It has AMD-graphics! It has a damn 3 TB Fusion Drive. Really, Apple!

And just using that nightly build of OpenCore-Patcher seems to be enough to prove macOS 12 to run just like Big Sur.

Now, that is a bit of a let down. I hope this state (of working just fine with OpenCore-Patcher’s EFI-bootloader) will persist all the way through the release of macOS 12 Monterey.

^^^ Yeah that's what's confusing, it does seem more like they want to lop off Macs that are only a half-year older than the oldest supported for age reasons.

Whoops, never mind, just used OCLP nightly myself.. and I agree with what others are saying, it feels like they did a lot of optimization for Intels.. some apps seem to load much faster now and the general 'feel' of mouse and keyboard response feels tighter.

Yeah, Monterey feels noticeably snappier than Big Sur on my MBP 11,2 w/OCLP. Only problem, my external Dell displays don't seem to detect DP/HDMI signals, despite detecting the cables. Resetting NVRAM & rebooting displays doesn't seem to work either. Any idea how to fix?

Is that the iGPU only rMBP 2014 or dGPU with nVidia GT750?

You should get the Windows boot option back when using the advanced setting "Set Generic Bootstrap" of OCLP set to "EFI/BOOT/BOOTx64.efi". But that's not the recommended way - please read the OCLP documentation.
Thanks! Can you please let me know why that is not the recommended way, and what are the risks etc? I read through the documentation but couldn't find much details.

It's explained here, although not in detail. The idea is having two EFI partitions, one for OpenCore and one for Windows, in order to avoid one interfering with the other.

I'm using my 2015 MacBook Pro in clamshell mode to a Dell QHD monitor via HDMI cable. I haven't had any problems with the setup. Are you using DP to DP and HDMI to HDMI or DP to HDMI? I did HDMI to HDMI because the cable was handy.

I do mean to setup my 2014 as well (same config you have I guess) and have DP, HDMI and DP to HDMI cables - they're just in a box under a table.

Do you have dual graphics on those?

I have Intel Integrated on the 2014 and Dual on the 2015. The Dual on the 2015 work fine.
Right but 2015 is officially supported. Let's see if you can get 2014 with IG only to turn on external display.

From what I notice on pictures others posted, when Monterey on unsupported Metal Mac shows and detect "Graphics" on "About this Mac" then any IGPU feature should work as display mirroring.

If "Graphics" is hidden could mean there is an issue in detecting correctly the laptop built-in display, I'd exclude that this depends from any kext because if I don't get wrong the wired HDMI display mirroring works also without acceleration , rather I guess apple removed some references in Display* or MonitorPanel framework so also on /System/Library/MonitorPanels/ where there is the Arrange.monitorPanel , the "Arrangement tab" is automatically added to Displays.prefpane when plug to an external video output signal.

did not find if the MBP mid 2012 15" non retina works... so I tried my self.
My steps: MBP mid 2012 with BigSur (patched) SSD with BigSur (cloned for installation)

Download InstallAssistant Package from post#1
install InstallAssistant

open terminal type:
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ 12\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USBNAME

Download and open Nightly OpenCore-Patcher
#1 build OpenCore
#2 Install OpenCore to internal Drive
reboot and choose opencore boot
start installation MacOS 12 beta over MacOS 11 - after a while it's done and works. BUT only with the Nvidia GPU even if I disconnect the external Display - GPU is still active.
