Hello to all,
It has been a while since I posted, however, I do follow information flow in this thread when time permits.
I revived the MacBook Pro 5,2 (after video chip demise) and it is functional within limits of the hardware and OCLP’s ability to update to the newest OS.
*** Machine specs, 2009 MBP 5,2 with 17" display, 1 TB EVO SSD, 8 GB of RAM, 3.06 GHz C2D, NVIDIA GEforce 9600M GT 512 MB and NVIDIA GEforce 9400 with 258 MB (it is near twin to HVDS' machine and identical to Macintosh HD's MBP)
Internal SSD has three partitions, each holding a bootable OS X version: Monterey 12.3.1, Big Sur 11.6.5, and Catalina 10.15.7 (with 2022-003 security update applied). All partitions function without any obvious problems (not already listed by other posters).
Just as a data point, Big Sur and Monterey are installed via OCLP (0.4.3n full version, and GUI version, latter to allow for implementation of blur effect)
Catalina still relies on Dosdude1’s patcher. It is currently an only OS version, on MacBook Pro 5,2, which allows direct streaming of digital content.
***A late 2012 iMac 13,2 with 27" screen, 1 TB fusion drive, 28 GB of RAM, 3.4 GHz Quad Core i7, and
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB.
Two partitions on the Fusion Drive, one with Catalina (runs natively), and the other running Monterey 12.3.1 via OCLP 0.4.3n***. No discernible issues noted on the iMac.
One more note. While there is no Universal Control functionality (as of yet) between the two macs listed above, connecting them via sharing panel in system preferences, then selecting screen sharing (with wifi and bluetooth on) does allow access to each mac's screen and transfer of files. The desktop of one mac appears (in separate window) on the screen of the second mac . Launching applications also works; I believe that is an expected functionality.
Thank you to OCLP developers and participants in this thread, who made the progress to 12.3.1 possible.
