Hello, can a CMP 3.1 owner from 2008 tell me what is his latest firmware version installed with Monterey 12.2.1 and OCLP 0.4.3 ? i think i don't have the last one ? (mine :006C.B05.0802291410)
Silent knight tell me to update… Thanks
What firmware version is SilentKnight recommending you install? It seems to be correct, based on the few people (including me) that have upgraded to a later firmware version. Get the version number SK recommends and do a search to find out which macOS version contains that firmware update.

Disclaimer though is I have no hands-on experience with the CMP 3.1

The last macOS version supported by CMP 3.1 is El Capitan. There should be no firmware updates installed by any later macOS version.

Thank you for your answers. Apparently according to the link provided by "joevt" I will have the latest firmware. Thank you

I've got Monterey installed on my 2012 MBP Retina 15" (2.6GHz Quad, 16GB, 512GB) - I upgraded from Catalina.

Everything works, but I kind of wish I hadn't bothered - I do love the extra features and modern feel, but the interface feels more sluggish in general compared to Catalina. Yes, I've patched the graphics card drivers etc. Especially since I run in 1920x1200 'High Res' mode a lot. I might try to see if disabling automatic graphic switching and always running the GT650M improves things. Running standard 'jumbo' 1440x900 res helps a lot and is acceptable performance-wise.

It's not a huge difference, but sluggish enough to make me go from 'this laptop does everything I need it to for browsing, emails, YouTube etc' to 'Hmmmm I wonder how much I could sell it for to put towards an M1 MacBook Air'...

I only upgraded as I wanted FCPX and Logic compatibility/updates. I don't do heavy work on this laptop but need a way to be able to open projects briefly with it. I also wanted to run Safari in 1440p/4k so that I didn't have to use Firefox/Chrome, saving some battery life. I had to enable this in the developer menu to get it to work.

Meanwhile my flashed 5,1 Mac Pro (580 8GB) works beautifully with Big Sur.

Hey Sharky,

Something else could be wrong. Maybe stick a 1 TB drive in it. Mine's running just as fast as it ever has, with both Logic & FCPX on board. It only has 8 GB RAM, yours has 16.

The big difference for me was putting in the OWC 1 TB drive while still on Catalina, immediate performance improvement. At 512 GB and 80% full I believe it was drowning in its own waste products. :)

The fans used to run pretty often before I put in more disk; I think it was 'thrashing'. Nowadays they seldom come on.

No affiliation with OWC whatsoever, it just works for me.

I'm running 2560 x 1600 res external monitor, and default res on the internal retina. Graphics switching is enabled.

Another thought, do you have anything plugged into the HDMI port? I got a slight boost when I hooked it up to a Pioneer a/v receiver. Or you could try one of those dummy headless HDMI plugs, cheap.

Remember Catalina will not have support in a few months.

The 1,200 second Catalyst crash is a feature built into OCLP043 for non-Metal Macs. Reverting to OCLP042 Offline variant, cold-boot bless is the temporary fix for now. OCLP developers see no fix for 043 in sight. Raising the issue on Discord not advised. They are well aware. ;)
This is suppose to be fixed in the latest OCLP nightly, I just installed it about 10 min ago and testing

Update, it's been over an hour and no crashing

So, from reading this thread, it sounds like booting the Catalina installer on my mini 6,1 didn't update firmware because I didn't reset PRAM first... (If I'm wrong about that, please correct me)

My question is, after I reset PRAM, what do I need to do to get OCLP back? Is there a guide somewhere about udating firmware on these machines safely?
Thanks.
All you have to do is to hold down the Option (alt) key and select the modified EFI on boot up. It's the same step you took the first time you booted up your machine using OCLP.

Apple has released macOS Monterey 12.4 beta to developers for testing. The build number is 21F5048e.

EDIT: TOM1211 was faster, sorry haven’t checked before nervously posting. 🚀

Hi @Sharky II , if I set the "more space" resolution on my MBPr (same model and specs as yours) I too notice that the system feels a bit slower. Safari scrolling looks almost normal, while some animation (like opening and browsing the Launchpad or Maps) are definitely laggier. The system becomes snappier if I switch to the dGPU, but some apps like Maps looks faster, anyway not as smooth as when used with the default resolution.

I can also confirm what @rehkram wrote: macOS with standard resolution with a WQHD external display connected is responsive and smooth.

I've got a small but annoying problem here. I'm not sure whether it's "unsupported Mac" or macOS Monterey related.

Problem description: Apple Magic Mouse 2 not working after waking up a Mac that has been in sleep mode for longer than 24 hours.

I'm using a Mac mini 6,1 (Mac mini 2012) with OCLP 0.4.3 (offline version) and macOS Monterey 12.3.1. The post install root patch is applied. I followed the guidelines of Mr. Macintosh's YouTube channel and the Mac mini is still running great!

When I don't use it, I put it in sleep by clicking the Apple icon in the top left corner and then choose sleep.
The LED on the Mac mini is then pulsating.
If I don't touch the Mac mini for more than 24 hours, the pulsating light goes off.

I can wake the Mac mini by pressing the ESC key on my wired keyboard. The LED on the front of the Mac mini turns on, but my Apple Magic Mouse 2 does nothing. Also if I turn the switch on the bottom to off and then to on again. I have to connect a wired mouse. Then I go into the Bluetooth menu in system preferences to see that my Magic Mouse is connected. When I unplug the wired mouse, the Magic Mouse is working normal again.

Before macOS Monterey, I've used macOS Big Sur (also using OCLP) for a few months without this problem. Before that with macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave no problems either.
Also when I wake up the Mac mini within 24 hours of sleep the Magic Mouse is working normal.

I also ran the SilentKnight (v.1.19) app to find out that my EFI version is a little behind. I've got 424.0.0.0.0 and the latest is 426.0.0.0.0.

Does anyone recognize this problem? I think the Bluetooth chip goes into a deep sleep state and does not wake up. Or could it be the lower EFI version of my Mac mini?

I've got similar situation for the first time on macos 12.3. When I started my iMac I realized the mouse (Apple Magic 2, also) doesn't work. But, in my case, turning it off and on was in help.

Interesting. Maybe I should wait a little longer after switching the Magic Mouse on again. I noticed this problem in macOS 12.2. Before that I was on macOS 11.6.x
