Well, this doesn't perfectly fit the theme of this thread but I don't know where else to put it, and I thought it might give others a chuckle or two.

My trusty late-2014 iMac is one of the models not upgradeable to Monterey (without taking the path others here have taken, I know).

And yet, I am regularly receiving notifications to 'Upgrade to Monterey!', after which I dutifully click on the notification which takes me to Software Update which thinks about it a few seconds and then tells me 'Your Mac is up to date - macOS Big Sur 11.6.5'.

No big deal but surely Apple is capable of telling its software update programming to leave us unsupported Macs alone and not keep rubbing it in that we can't install Monterey (directly via Apple, at least)?!?!

(I keep thinking that maybe I can fool the software update into giving me Monterey if I continue to be obedient in responding to the reminders, but so far no such luck . . . )

Some models that were supported then later removed, like 2014 iMacs and MBPs will continue to receive that message most probably because you have an app or extension that is optimized for Monterey. It will eventually disappear.

Might ask over on Discord to see if someone can help. Or dig into the general OpenCore forums. My understanding is that setting it to zero should disable TRIM during boot. You sure you're running OCLP 0.4.4?

The fix didn't work for me when running 0.4.3.

This post helps explain what OC is doing. The setting only affects TRIM usage during boot.

Thanks again - you're right, rookie mistake. I didn't rebuild OC settings after updating to 0.4.4. My boot time is back down to a minute - no more boot failures either. And once it boots up my system is now immediately responsive just like it was with Big Sur. Now I just need to figure out why OTA updates aren't installing (correct boot picker isn't selected during installation)

Updated to 12.4 beta 3 have to say if your someone who doesn’t install the latest macOS 12.4 is running really well best so far on my mid 2014 if skipped everything so far then if 12.4 stays as running as well as it is definitely would recommend it when it releases.

Can you give me a link to Monterey 12.4 beta 3, it has not yet appeared on the Mr. Macintosh site and I do not have Apple's developer status. Currently running OCLP 0.4.3 & 12.3.1 on an iMac late 2014 (smooth).

12.4b3 update will show up in Software Update Control Panel

Q: Can any of the MBP4,1 owners, who has installed 12.4b3, confirm, if the system still crashes every few minutes?
12.4b1 and b2 were a catastrophe on my MBP4,1, I had to revert to 12.3.1 stable version, which is rock solid.

Q: Does keyboard backlight now work in OCLP latest 0.4.4n root patch?

Q: Does keyboard backlight now work in OCLP latest 0.4.4n root patch?
The keyboard backlight problem came in with the graphics patches (as part of the volume patch) which were introduced in OCLP 0.4.3 because of a problem with the saving or exporting of images to JPEG or PNG. It also made the top menu bar transparency and shadowing look worse on my MacBookPro4,1.

Replacing SkyLightOld.dylib with the older one fixed these problems for me.

Thanks for your prompt post on the subject, macinfo. I remember. The Skylight fix was also made by khronokernel via OCLP, but since OCLP 0.4.4n mid-April it is back again. That is, why I was asking about latest OCLP 0.4.4n, as per this week, latest today.

From your signature I see you did the same as I, reverting from 12.4b2 to 12.3.1. --
12.4b1 and b2 were constantly crashing my MBP4,1, as did 12.3b1 b2, b3... b4 was stable.
If you are considering 12.4b3, please let me know the result, and which specific OCLP version you would have used...

Hi dear friends! Finally I did the upgrade to Monterrey on my cMP5,1, using oclp 0.4.3. My machine freezes after every 15 minutes of use. I disabled the hibernation, cuz wasn't working for me too. Anyone experiencing same issues? There are some post install procedure to do on my machine? Thank you!

After bringing my old 2011 MBA back to life with OCLP, I was so happy with the result I went shopping for a cheap old iMac to do it again, and to have a big screen again I havent had anything bigger than a laptop since 2010. I was just about to buy a 2013, when I found a late 2015 iMac for the same price. It has 10.13 on it now. I just turned it on.

So I was in the process of gathering up everything I needed to start the OCLP process (USB stick, etc), took a quick peek at the OCLP compatability page, and... it only mentions up to 2014 iMac...

🤔

Turns out the late 2015 iMac is still supported by Apple and can just do a regular upgrade to Monterey.

I should be happy, right? I'm not. I'm very disappointed. Completely serious. 😕

Is it because of iMessage? iMessage is a disaster in 0.4.3 and does lots of lockup things.

A few pages back people have been having success with iMessage working well again by going to 0.4.4 nightly latest and 12.4b latest.

12.4b3 update will show up in Software Update Control Panel
Tried to use the Software Update System Preferences pane to get the beta 3 update, after running the code you suggested, but I got a Permissions Error message (this iMac often throws that permissions error when accessing the Software Update pane)
So I ran this code in the terminal;
davidv@Davids-iMac ~ % sudo softwareupdate -l
Password:
Software Update Tool
Finding available software
Software Update found the following new or updated software:
* Label: macOS Monterey 12.4 Beta 3-21F5063e
Title: macOS Monterey 12.4 Beta 3, Version: 12.4, Size: 2234476K, Recommended: YES, Action: restart,
So we know your code worked, now to get the update downloaded. (SilentKnight also lists the beta 3 update, but never finishes the download)
Why doesn't this work?
Using the label produced above;
sudo softwareupdate --install macOS Monterey 12.4 Beta 3-21F5063e
produces this;
"Finding available software
macOS: No such update
12.4: No such update
Monterey: No such update
Beta: No such update
3-21F5063e: No such update
No updates are available."

Thank you for the information, I patched the root to disable SVV and will see if Volume Hash Mismatch return back or not.
Could you tell please do you still have problem with Volume Hash Mismatch or after disabling SVV Monterey works fine?
I had the same problem on my MacbookPro11,1

Using a macbook 11,1 - have the problem with volume hash mismatch after upgrading to MacOS 12.3.1. I can run just fine, but not able to boot from harddrive, only from USB (created with OC patcher 0.4.3).

I can see the firmware on my EFI drive, but I get a stopsign when booting from harddrive. Not sure what to do more now.

You'll get your chance to try OCLP (or something similar) with that machine, just give it a year or two. If your lucky you might even get to use it with macOS 13! Enjoy it in the meantime.

Other than looking mildly concerning, is the volume hash mismatch message an actual problem? I imagine it's basically "you've patched the OS in a way we didn't anticipate".

I get the message like maybe twice a month, and I wouldn't say anything feels wrong reliability-wise.

Big thanks my friend @TimothyR734
Although I no longer have an unsupported iMac, I bought a brand new
iMac mid 2020 and still have the Hackintosh.
Nevertheless, I regularly check the forum here.
