TL;DR: All wifi cards dropped in Catalina or older are non-functional now in Monterey. IONetworkingFamily seems to have gone through some changes breaking support for those legacy wireless kexts.

Current recommendation is to either pick up a natively support BCM94360/BCM943602 Wireless card or use the Wireless cards OpenCore Legacy Patcher still can patch in support for:
  • BCM943224, BCM94331
For reference, MacPro5,1's stock wireless module is a BCM94322(non 4 variant) and thus cannot be used with the curret patch set in Monterey

We are still actively researching support however as this is the very first developer beta, I would be patient and wait for August/September to get a better idea on what hardware can be semi-easily patched back in and what can't
Thanks for that! Your hard work is appreciated...

I was wondering if anyone has good directions for extracting BaseSystem.dmg from the Monterey Beta 1 kit. It seems like a rather involved process for Big Sur and I'm wondering if the process is the same or if someone has access to good directions. I'm trying to get Monterey running in a KVM and nobody has a project to do that yet though I'd guess that there are some things in the works.

Hello everyone, we're proud to release OpenCore Legacy Patcher v0.2.0!

Some of the more note worth changes from this release:
  • Fixes Google Fonts, and full screen support for Intel HD4000 iGPUs in Monterey
  • Implement smaller binary downloads per OS during root patching
  • Add new OpenCore Boot Picker icons for macOS volumes
And many more changes under the hood, hope everyone enjoys the new release!
Those are some nice new icons to differentiate MacOS versions. Does that mean support to boot into them (say Mojave) from the boot picker is coming? Or am I living under a rock and could do that all along (not just Big Sur/Montery)?

There is a pull request for Mojave/Catalina root patching support on the OCLP GitHub. Even once that is merged, initially at least one should consider it a beta, but it's nice to see that's coming hopefully soon.

Currently I believe most of those (older) BT dongles are hit in the same way as the legacy Apple hardware. Wait until some more recent OC and Lilu versions hit the road, some work is in progress. Things have changed and we expect more changes with upcoming macOS versions. So there will be certainly no buyers guide updated with each and every macOS beta update.

On the other hand putting a really cheap BCM94360CD card into you iMac12,2 is so easy compared to the installation of a new GPU that it is really worth the effort. It brings back WiFi and BT, HandOff and Continuity. Other Apple users do not have this simple option.

Adding your complete hardware stack to your signature would make guessing unnecessary.

You could try it. There are some HD4000 fixes in 0.2.0 nightly builds (see the changelog for details: https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md)

If you'd like to try the nightly build join the Discord (see the Discord link in @khronokernel's signature above).
I've tried to install Monterey on my macbook pro with retina late2012. And my OpenCore-Patcher app version is 0.2.1. But when I rebooted and selected Install macOS, my display resolution became higher, is this normal?

Well, hate that you’re running into trouble as well, but it’s good to know I'm not alone on this.

I’ve skimmed the thread but is there anyone with an iMac15,1 who patched successfully without this issue?
Same trouble too! My version is 0.2.1

Is there a guide to exactly which WiFi cards will fit different models, particularly Macbooks and iMacs with PCI or PCIe slots? Some vendors appear to indicate that the cards will only fit specific models, whereas others suggest that their products will fit suit most machines with the correct slot.

There are several different threads here on this site covering it on a per system (or sometimes per system family) level, my most important source covering the iMac11,x and iMac12,x (and it may possible also covering the iMac10,1 family) is this thread.

I am afraid all the owners of all the different Apple models will have to do some (re)search on their own. Some models are no upgradable at all. This is not a really new problem. With Mojave a lot of old cards where dropped from HandOff and Continuity support. Users started to upgrade. Now we face a more severe problem. A simple search will to it.

I use an USB Bluetooth 4.0 EDR CSR dongle that works on Monterey (CSR drivers are still there and load) and allows to pair those enough similar devices, moreover it also shows the paired bluetooth device battery level on the Finder bluetooth icon.

The only requirement to make it work is to plug the dongle before the Monterey booting or simply keep it plugged to the Mac, just check that blue led is constantly blinking.

There are also available recently USB Bluetooth 5.0 dongle but haven't tested, I guess they will work too.

There are also USB Bluetooth 4.0 based on Broadcom chip but apple seems dropped some of them.

Here is my USB BT 4.0 CSR details, this picture is not from Monterey "System report" because it doesn't show correctly the Bluetooth properties, but it will work on Monterey, I tested and devices are paired correctly.

The thread that you linked looks interesting. I'd dismissed it as being only marginally relevant, but it covers more than the title suggests.

Do you know any native working BT 5.0 dongles? I'd love to experiment at giving old Macs handoff, especially when universal control makes it into the beta.

I made some search and currently the USB Bluetooth 5.0 use this chip: "Simplecom NB409" (not CSR and not Broadcom)

that I guess is not compatible with macOS , so if you need bluetooth just use "USB Bluetooth 4.0 CSR"

then as I wrote there are also "USB Bluetooth 4.0" based on Broadcom chip BCM20702 (for example GMYLE , ASUS or others), but not sure if this will work on Monterey through OCLP .

For handoff or any continuity feature apart Bluetooth 4 , you need also "AirDrop on Finder" that is doable only through any Broadcom Wifi card that can spoof to AirPortBrcmNIC driver, this is provided only by OCLP .
