Safari 16.2 is unusable for many websites. Other browsers work fine.

edit: The crash appears to be related to the Nvidia driver. If there's a way to disable GPU acceleration in Safari like in other browsers, that'd probably fix it but also impact performance massively.
edit 2: The crash is also related to JavaScript execution, so apps like Mail which use the Webkit engine but don't execute JavaScript are probably fine.

I updated here to do the experiment and show the problems I have with Safari 16.2 and one of them is this one on the Intel HD Graphics 4000, do you know how to solve this?

Google does not show searches, patch-root enabled.

News: I believe I found the solution, I had to reapply the root-patch again.

I'll do some more tests here, now with Youtube + Safari 16.2

no solutions yet. Meanwhile use another browser if required.

The problem that you are displaying in your attachment regarding searches in safari and HD 4000 has been clearly addressed and fixed by the OCLP team back in September. Mr. Macintosh even made a video about this point, and the solution was noted quite obviously in the OCLP change log(see below). I know that you mentioned you were using the latest version of OCLP for your Ventura installation, but you may have accidentally been using an out-dated version of OCLP for your Monterey installation— this may have been the source of your Issues.

It’s always good to double check those kinds of things before coming onto this website and writing about “problems. “ Before you do any more testing, perhaps double check to make sure you’re using the latest version of OCLP with Monterey.

I was already using OCLP 0.5.3 when I first posted, I noticed that in my case, to solve the problems in Safari 16.2 I had to patch-root once more, so the problems are gone. I'm sorry, but whenever there are problems or difficulties, I will post yes, after all this topic was created for that, if you are not comfortable with posting problems, I think this is not the place for you, but feel free to stay. We're here to share and help each other, if you didn't have that vision, that's what community is all about. Be alright.

I think that when encountering a problem, it is best to first re-read the online docs, double check your work for missed steps—try to figure it out on your own first. If all else fails, then post about a problem.

We are here to help each other — you’re absolutely right. But sometimes, “The problems” that people end up posting about are self-inflicted wounds. Users sometimes make careless mistakes or skip steps during the install process, like forgetting to root patch.

People often don’t like to admit when they are wrong or have made a mistake, but when this happens, it’s okay to just say “oops.” 😉

You posted originally a warning that OCLP Monterey doesn’t work well with HD4000 and safari 16.2. A few of us responded that this was misinformation. You root patched one more time and the problems are gone. Hmmmm…. Doesn’t it say in the docs to root patch again after each update?

My Webkit Nvidia crash issue is gone too after reinstalling the root patch. Didn't think that would be necessary after Safari updates but now I know better. On this forum we try our best to steer people in the right direction regarding issues like this and I appreciate the discussion in this thread about it :)

I know, it’s like, what would have to write about here, if everyone were remembering to root patch like they should???
😂😂

oops……
I actually just checked the docs myself, and I couldn’t find where it explicitly states that users need to root patch again after every update in the post-install section. I‘ve either missed it on the OCLP website myself, or this something that they can improve about those documents.

It is necessary to root patch again after every update, and it should say that somewhere clearly on the OCLP website—apologies!

I also couldn't find anywhere saying to apply the root-patch after a Safari update, everyone knows that the operating system happens because we lose graphic acceleration, but a Safari update, in which it doesn't even ask for a restart, didn't seem to be right. Thank you very much everyone, and I apologize if I gave away any misinformation. Monterey is working perfectly with Safari 16.2 on Intel HD Graphics 4000.

Hi

Having issues with my mouse, the pointer on screen has often a ~ 50 -100 pixel offset. Very dangerous during clicking a button when delete and OK are next to each other and annoying when drawing in F360 and SkechtUp.

I did download SilentKnight and LockRattler and have placed some screenshots.
Besides if it will help the mouse offset issue, do I need to do something?
Any proposals?

Also my FW is a little old, however I did work with BigSur the FW isn't update as I understand to the latest version.
I could create an USB drive with BigSur, but is there another way to do this nowadays? Will the FW update helps about the mouse offset?

BTW

/usr/libexec/firmwarecheckers/eficheck/eficheck --integrity-check

results in.

ReadBinaryFromKernel: No matching services found. Either this system is not supported by eficheck, or you need to re-load the kext

IntegrityCheck: couldn't get EFI contents from kext

Is this because of OCP?
Do the iMac needs the FW update; I did read that the OpenCore Patcher handles around this? Or for the better, I need to do this FW update?

I have been using OCLP on my late 2013 21" iMac with 0.4.11. Ever since 12.6.1 when I run Geekbench it is about 800 points lower than before. 12.6.3 and I still have the problem. It doesn't matter the Mac isn't slow and it's running fine. I just am wondering if it really is throttling my CPU for some reason. I have tried newer OCLP and it is never stable and I always have to revert back to 4.11.

iMac 21.5 14,1 late 2013 12.6.2 updated 12.6.3 with OCLP V.0.6.0, updated OCLP V0.6.1 patched.
The boot up little slow with OCLP V.0.6.0, but updated OCLP V.0.6.1 it's boot up as same as 12.6.2.
All functions are working fine, and didn't see any issues.
Thank you all people who are involved on the OC project.

800 lower? Which version of GB?

I got my MacBook Air 4,2 mid 2011 updated to 12.6.3 and also updated the OCLP patcher to version 0.6.1 Applied all post root patches and everything is working perfect. Only boot time takes long to reach the login screen. Also never got keyboard backlit so using app 'Lab tick'✌️

Also Safari 16.3 solved some the issues faced in previous version.

Hi Ausdauersportler, thanks for the reply.
I've been searching for posts mentioning Featureunlock and I noticed they're older than a few months. I've never had this issue before and I've been using OCLP for the better part of the year now so I'm not sure why I'd experience an issue with Feautureunlock now.

The apps I start right after a reboot open without a problem.
But starting an app after say 10min just makes the icon bounce and shows the app as *(not responding) in the Force Quit window. Even when the bouncing stops (and there's no dot below the app icon in the doc) it shows up In the Force Quit window as *(not responding).
Meanwhile the system is not showing any sign of hanging really. No fans speeding up or getting warm...
Another issue I noticed for example was with my earphones. I had plugged in my earphones for the first half an hour, then pulled them out and after a while put them back in. The earphones did not get recognised this time it seemed. Music kept being played on the normal built-in speakers. I now there've been problems with these ports do to age but after repeatedly trying nothing changed. I assume this also is software that needs to be triggered by a hardware switch in the plug?

*edit: I've tried with disabling Featureunlock but to no avail.

Are you still covinced it could be Featureunlock that's causing the problem?

Thanks again.
Frederik
Hi Again,

Because of the above problem I decided to start with a clean install.
After the install I didn't get a pop-up stating that I booted from the USB and can install to the HD (as should be the case with OCLP 0.5.3 according to the video from Mr.Macintosh)
Could this be because of the fact that I had no wifi at the time? I don't think so?
Or could it be because there was already an previous OCLP install EFI in place? I noticed that didn't get erased when I erased the volume (2 volumes on the SSD) previous to the install as it was still available in the bootpicker.

I just wanted to check this and learn more about the process.

Again an enormous thank you to all the developers keeping these machines alive and kicking!

Frederik

Edit: Oh man, just saw that I reinstalled hours before the release of 0.6.1 which enables the install of Ventura 😱😱😱😱!
Wish I'd waited untill tonight :-D.

Edit2: I seem to be having problems with the wifi. After a while the available networks disappear. On OCLP 0.5.3 & 0.6.1 too (still on Monterey). The personal hotspot from my iPhone won't show up at all. It does when connected via USB.
I tried to install and remove the post-install patches several times. Also tried installed them again without removing.
Anyone got an idea what's going on?

Thanks!

Big Sur or Monterey?
I have a mac mini 2012 (6,1) with an i5, 16gb ram, 500 ssd and 500 hdd.

I use it mainly for browsing, programming (python and ruby), a little youtube, a little office stuff.

Which of the 2 will work best?

If possible I would like to avoid formatting the mac mini (the filesystem i have is APFS).
