Make a good backup, and try it.
Did it work?
It won't. The OpenCore bootloader injects kexts needed before macOS starts. Kext needed is specific to each macOS version. Doing a major version upgrade in settings will cause bootloops.

Minor version upgrades is fine. Major version upgrades should always be done through a USB built by OCLP

The 1.2 and 1.3 nightly OCLP root patch function does not work correctly with the November 13 Monterey 12.7.2 (21G1967) beta. The patcher finds that a nVidia Kepler root patch is required (screenshot) but fails with the following message (screenshot) and the internal display has a white line around dock. (On an iMac 12,2 with K2100M GPU).
Given what you said, when 12.7.2 is eventually released, it is wise to wait for confirmation that everything works before doing the update.

Although 12.7.2 is supposed to be a minor release, Apple has released 3 different RC builds for it already. It seems like Apple is experimenting with something or fixing something deeper in the OS.

Yes, I'll roll back to the 12.7.1 version—no big deal, but was surprised that this happened for a x.x.2 minor point update.

Because I love Monterey so much and don't want to jump to Ventura (and I do not have external SSD to keep both running), I spent way too much time getting Ventura on VMware Fusion 12 to work.

The guest OS mostly works now, but just without graphics acceleration, and occasionally it will kernel panic on me.

Hey!! my "GPU GT 640M 512MB" and i want to run OCLP 1.2.1 for 13.1/2 iMacs? Does it work?

My mac won't boot into recovery anymore. I see recovery in OpenCore's boot loader and can select it, but it just returns to the OC bootloader after a moment. I also cannot get into recovery without open core (the mac just stays a black screen). I am not sure what to do, but does anyone know how to reinstall the Monterey recovery partition (it's there, it looks okay, just not booting)?

Revert to OCLP 1.1.0 or before - it is an OpenCore bug on real Macs.
Nobody using Monterey needs any OCLP version beyond 0.6.2.

Edit:

- AMD metal works well with 0.4.11 (any later version needs SBM and SIP manually re-enabled), AMD Lexa and AMD RX5500XT MXM got configurations support only with later versions. Monter offers full support for AMD metal GPUs.
- NVIDIA metal got updates with 0.5.0 and work well with 0.6.2 (the last version with AMFI enabled), Monterey dropped Kepler support and patching is needed, SIP is partially disabled.
- non metal may also benefit from later versions.

In general you can run the latest and greatest, but from 0.5.0 the system configuration is optimized to run Ventura, from 1.0.0 for Sonoma. The complete config became more complex and in general on does not benefit from more complexity.

Thanks so much Ausdauersportler! I just updated to Marin Lo's OC configuartion 0.9.6 (from 0.9.2). Since my system boot was working, it never occurred to me that might be the issue. I downgraded (as you said "downgrade") to 0.9.5 and it has no issues booting into recovery now. Whew and thanks!

I just installed Monterey onto a MacMini 3.1 (late 2009) and it works nice.
I am not interested in newer OSes.
I have used todays latest OCLP 1.2.
Nevertheless, for the future, I would like to know, what is the correct OCLP version for Monterey?

The first post of this forum states 0.4.11.
Depending on Metal GPUs, another version is recommeded, 5.x I think.

Someone states 0.6.2 in a thread.

Is there a highly recommended version known for Monterey?

Btw. on Github is not offering every version for download:
Is there another download portal available, if necessery?

Thank you much.

I had good luck with OCLP 0.6.8 running Monterey on my iMac 15,1, but have switched to Sonoma now. That iMac didn't even need root patches with Monterey.
One member, closely associated with the OCLP development team, has said there is no reason to use a version later than 0.6.8 for Monterey, and even 0.4.11 is good enough. Can't find that post right now, sorry.
The Github site shown below has all of the versions, I only checked as far back as 0.4.11, but those mentioned above are still available (see the page shown on the bottom of each page)

Maybe you mean the following text?
(written in the very first post)

Q: Which is the best OCLP version to use with Monterey?
A: The last Monterey version was 0.4.11 - all following versions target Ventura only with a few exceptions. In general read the OCLP change log carefully, new versions may have unexpected side effects on Monterey installations when changing general settings (like SecureBootModel, AMFI, SIP). Macs with Kepler graphics should use OCLP 0.5.0, non metal Macs (pre 2012 systems) should use the latest version since non-metal updates are included into the development stream independently of the most recent macOS version.

I dont have a metal GPU and don't want to go beyond Monterey.
So do I have to use 0.4.11 or the latest (i.e. 1.2.1 today).

again, thanks for any info

Edit: oh, thanks for the download location, I did not open the Assets

i believe 0.4.11 is the best for amd metal gpu, for non metal, you should go beyond and try up to 0.6.2 ( for Up to Monterey ) to see if everything went 100%. hope this helps

The versions of OCLP I used

Mac Pro 5.1 with Kepler graphics: OCLP 0.5.0 for Monterey - clean install
Mac Pro 5.1 with Kepler graphics: OCLP 0.6.8 for Ventura - clean install

I am planning to install OS Monterey on my mid-2012 MBP 13" (9.2). If I find out, after having checked out Monterey, that I want to downgrade back to Mojave, will there be any problems related to this? Are there for instance any irreversible firmware updates involved?

I am grateful for any advice!

Read the docs - first page only will likely do the job.

Is it any problems even if for MacOS Monterey?

I clean installed macOS Monterey using OCLP 0.5.0 and macOS Ventura with OCLP 0.6.8. I'm reading that OCLP 1.x is creating issues once updated to. My Mac Pro 5.1 runs just fine, and I have an up-to-date instance of macOS Mojave, just in case red flags are waved at any given moment in the future.

If your Mac runs just fine for you with OCLP 1.x.x, then you're good to go off course.

I want to install macOS Monterey on a MacBook Air (2013, Haswell IG). I've seen a lot of recommendations to not go past OCLP 0.5.0 or at the latest 0.6.2 for Monterey, but I know the intended user would like to have control over which apps can access the microphone, camera etc. And I'm very sure they don't want to use Terminal to make that happen. Does that then make OCLP 0.6.8, which should then allow AMFI to be enabled, the way to go without installing the latest OCLP, which is all about Sonoma functionality?

Thanks in advance

I have a really basic question, from the POV of someone who knows enough to manage to update their late 2009 Macbook Pro to Monterey using the latest Open Core Legacy Patcher in a burst of ingenuity, but not enough to fully understand what that means…

The computer is basically fine and running Monterey quite happily over the top of our existing installation. But a few apps like Maps no longer work properly (no maps displaying) and from what I can tell there is no graphics acceleration at all anymore, ie the 9400 Nvidia chip inside is now just a paperweight, and always will be forever now. Is that about the size of it, or is there some hope, some other install or some driver being developed that may restore the GPU to its former glory?

Give it to me straight, it’s a 14 year old computer and more than done it’s time, and for the most part it’s still functional for the very small jobs I sometimes use it for.

Just to verify on MONTEREY.

Can I Carbon Copy my SSD Monterey with OLCP to an NMVe drive ?
Thanks

Probably you will have much less problems by installing Monterey from scratch and importing users, applications an other data with Migration Assistant

Anyone else find exporting HEIC photo's from the photo app to jpeg it just crashes, I can export as default but looks like I can't convert any longer. I know this feature use to work a few months back.

MBP 8,1
OCLP 1.21
MacOS 12.7.1

Thanks,
