Hi. Someone here uses Skype on a cMP? I'd like to know if you experience the same issue I got since I upgraded my cMP from BigSur to Monterey. The issue I experience is the lack of remote video. I can hear other Skype users, they can see and here me, but I can't see them. I tried all kind of troubleshooting, from removing Skype and all it's preference to reinstalling Monterey from scratch, but none of them helped.

ok here is a weird one. I have a mac pro 3,1 with monterey installed on using oclp. A few months ago i was asking about a problem. There was no sound card present. On a different OS , my (on board) sound card was just fine , but on this install there was no device in sound tab in system preferences. I finally couldn't solve the problem but it wasn't much of an issue as i was using an external sound card. Yesterday i wanted to see something in the boot screen (i have a Radeon HD 7950 mac edition but i cannot see a boot screen) so i switched the graphics card with a 5770 (which shows the boot screen) and as soon as i booted in the OS , my on board sound card was there and working. When i switched back to the HD 7950 , there was no sound card 🤯 . I tried reseting smc and pram etc but nothing changed. How can such a thing happen? I mean what does the graphics card have to do with this? And how does this link to the oclp? Any ideas?

Graphics cards may have an audio device so they can transmit audio to DisplayPort or HDMI displays.

Do any of your graphics cards have an audio device?

Below is a Radeon Pro W5500. It has an upstream bridge, a downstream bridge, a VGA device, an audio device, a USB XHCI controller, and some kind of serial bus controller.
Code:
joevt@Joes-Giga-Mac ~ % sudo lspci -nn
01:00.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 10 XL Upstream Port of PCI Express Switch [1002:1478]
02:00.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 10 XL Downstream Port of PCI Express Switch [1002:1479]
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 10 [Radeon Pro W5700] [1002:7312]
03:00.1 Audio device [0403]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 10 HDMI Audio [1002:ab38]
03:00.2 USB controller [0c03]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Device [1002:7316]
03:00.3 Serial bus controller [0c80]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 10 USB [1002:7314]

Yes I think HD7950 has an audio device, although it doesn't show up as a device, I think it sends audio through hdmi. I don't really care about sending audio through hdmi. The purpose of the on board audio card I want , is to send audio through the optical spdif output as I used to. Unless you mean that the on board audio device conflicts with the graphics card audio, which is something that didn't happen in the past

Not sure if this helps. I have three Macs, cMP 5,1 OCLP 0.4.11 with Monterey, M1 mini Montery and M2 Pro Mini Ventura. I can ssh to and from the Monterey Macs on my LAN. Nothing works, ssh hangs, from Ventura to either Monterey Macs. HTH

Edit: New version of Openssh in Ventura
Thank you very much for your reply ! Im using standard password auth (without any keys) at home, and i was able to solve it by editing sshd or ssh.conf. BUT, here comes the mistake... I reinstalled today the system with newest Monterey image, and i didnt made backup from those 2 files. So ill spend today maybe 4hours searching, without success. So huge amateur mistake ! I remember, that i neved had such issues with SSH, Monterey was the first OS where this popped up = didnt ask for password but immediately throws "connection reset by peer message". But as i mentioned, i was able to solve it and test the system for a month. Since all my home devices are connected to this mac via SSH, i have huge troubles now :/

I actually have Sonoma on a 2019 iMac 3.0Mhz with 24Gb of Ram, with a Fusion Drive :-/ It takes about 2,30 minutes to start. If I downgrade to Monterey, do you think it performs better, o the only solution is to change for a SSD Hard Drive ?

If you want a real speed boost, split your Fusion Drive and replace the crappy Apple SSD part that comes with it. You must make a backup first (even two), because you will lose all the data on the internal device. I did the same on my daughter's 2017 iMac, and now it's truly a gem, very snappy (with Ventura... I don't upgrade macOS before xx.3 since years). To update iMac's FusionDrive I used a 1TB WD SN 570, but now you can find the SN 580 at more or less the same price (around 60 euros for 1TB). You will need an adapter to use standard M2 NVMe drives: I used a cheap sintech, purchased on Aliexpress for around 5 euros, together with the Display strips kit, necessary to re-mount the iMac (less then 2 euros... I suggest you to take two or even three kits).
In conclusion, now my daughter's iMac has a 1TB NVMe SSD and a 1TB hard drive for TimeMachine backup.
It's a bit of a chore, but with the guidance of iFixIt it's doable, and it's really worth it.

Hi, I have downgraded to Monterey and it flies. Now the startup is 25-30s and all apps open and work insanely fast. For the moment, I will not change Fusion drive to a SSD.

I installed Monterey 12.7.1 to external SSD on mac mini late 2009, I found a problem after use some days: any app won't show any thing when I want to run it and I have force quit it, but all apps started at login are no any problems to be executed. what happended for this case? is this SSD's problems?

I'm having the same problem. All programs work fine except Avid Pro Tools I have to force quit the program.

It’s going to be difficult to help you with this kind of messy English explanation. “Any app won’t show any thing”—what the *bleep* does this mean?

All of your apps won’t open? None of your apps open? Some of your apps won’t open? Some apps open at login and work fine, but then other apps won’t open or will open but show blank windows after that?

Sorry to be a bit harsh, but the description of your problem and your English is a mess, so perhaps tidy up what you want to say and try again.

My completely unscientific guess is that certain apps you want to run need to be updated for Monterey or simply no longer run on Monterey. It may not be a problem with the patcher. Nvram reset is also a great place to start when trouble shooting.

Sorry for my poor English:(
I want to say all apps can be run and the icon on the taskbar will be shaked, but no any screens opened, icon is stop after that, I have to force quit that app.
In contradictory, all the same apps can be used without any problems if started auto on login.
Is this clear for my situation?

installed 12.7.1 clean on a freshly formatted sata ssd on a MP5.1, Kepler, OCLP1.3

did the Safari Update (sadly don't remember what version it shows). The version before the update (what was installed with 12.7.1) was 15.6.1.

With the updated version I cannot stay in a website, tried a youtube video, it always showed the site need to be reloaded after a few seconds, same with apple.com

Firefox was ok, tho

So I did a clean install again of 12.7.1 and did no Safari update an all is fine.

Am a bit in a hurry as the box gets delivered to a customer the next morning.

So the question is for you guys, does the latest Safari update on 12.7.1 (or 12.7.2) is behaving same, constant reloading?

Today I upgraded to monterey 12.7.2 from Software upgrade, when I view "About This Mac" after reboot, it is still macOS Monterey 12.7.1, when I run script, I got message as below, does anyone tell me why?
Mac OS Version is 12.7.1 and patch enabled so applying the patch

Hi all. I've been running OCLP on a number of machines with great success. But I notice that Apple Software Restore (asr) is broken under OC. This breaks a number of useful backup tools like Synology ABB or bootable backups made using Superduper or CCC. I am wondering if anyone here has some insight why, and if this is likely to change in the future (or is just a necessary evil of using OC).
Hi @amarmot

I'm also facing an Apple Software Restore (ASR) error when running a backup with Synology Active Backup For Business (ABB) on an older Mac using Open Core Legacy Patcher (OCLP).

I did quite some research but couldn't find a solution yet. Do you know if there is a workaround available for that issue?

Thanks a lot!

Hey everyone, I just installed 12.6.8 on my Late 2013 Macbook Pro with Kepler graphics (MacBookPro11,3) using OCLP 0.6.8 and for the most part everything works as expected, except backups, specifically Synology Active Backup which relies on ASR. This is because of the broken APFS seal that happens after the root patching.

Is there any way to solve this? Should I use OCLP 0.5.0? Or is there a way to restore the seal integrity with the current version?
@saaif88 have you found a workaround for the issue with Synology Active Backup For Business?

I upgraded my MBP6,2 to 12.7.2 (via OTA) without issues. It is possible that your macOS 12.7.2 install did not finish. One possible cause of this would be that Open Core did not select the "macOS Installer" volume when the macOS install rebooted. If you boot your Mac, does the Open Core boot menu still have "macOS Installer" in the menu? If so, try manually selecting the "macOS Installer" option to complete the upgrade. If not, you should be able to attempt the upgrade again.

How do I remove this? (update notification)

Having seen a few encouraging posts, I decided to do the 12.7.2 (21G1974) update from 12.7.1. No problems so far. iMac 13.4, Kepler GPU, OCLP 0.6.8.

installed 12.7.1 clean on a freshly formatted sata ssd on a MP5.1, Kepler, OCLP1.3

I self reply:

installed 12.7.2 clean, Kepler, Mac pro 4.1 12 core, OCLP 1.3 - this is basically the same box as I had 2 days before, Dual CPUs are the difference.

no problems with Safari 15.6.1, did an update to Safari 17.2 and the same kickouts with Safari occured.
I copied before the Safari 15.6.1 app, but the copy now makes the same problems. So some of the underlying parts become havoc.

so I have Safari 17.2 and 15.6.1 and both make problems.

to verify, just run a youtube video in Safari and after a few seconds it stops, wants to reload the site, stops, in a circle.

No big problem for this box as I can go back but worth noting.

Have you reapplied root patches, YouTube works on my MBP 8,1 with 12.7.2 OCLP 1.3 and safari 17.2
