I have to download the installer again but it's running much haster now, 12 MB/S. I can't believe how many people are trying this out.

Tried to install using a test partition on my late 2014 5K iMac and got an error during the update that the startup disk could not be verified. The update didn’t succeed; I’m back on my regular Big Sur installation. Now the EFI seems to be somewhat goofed — my screen resolution options appear to correspond to those of a 4K iMac instead of 5K:

My Big Sur installation is otherwise untouched and working as usual.

Any advice, y’all? I’m torn between trying again on a test partition just running the installer from my Big Sur installation instead of Recovery, biting the bullet and just running the installer for my main installation to see if it gets fixed somehow, or just leaving it be unless there’s a good way to undo this.

Edit: System Information still recognizes my display correctly, if that counts for anything:

If the OS is disposable or you have a TM backup, go for it. It depends on how badly you need the existing OS.

I've never seen a Mac with so many resolutions before.

If you have a lot of RAM, you could go with VMware or VirtualBox.

Hi guys,

I have an iMac 14,2 (27-inch, Late 2013) , NVIDIA GTX 780M with 4GB, 1 TB SSD which runs Big Sur flawlessly.

Could anyone with the same setup report back if Monterey can be installed? I looked through the thread but didn't see any mention of 14,2.

THANKS!

Sean from Philly

Hi, don’t forget to help the group that using Mac Mini late 2012. Thanks.
Mac mini 2012 works with micro patcher. First look, it is very slow. Not sure maybe a mix of causes, first beta, graphics kext etc, by the moment it’s unusuable

I can’t apply kext patch for wifi, it needs more time to investigate

I'm stuck in a boot loop on the installation. It may be something to do with installing on a second partition while there's a Mojave installation on the primary disk. I'm going to shoot it, blow away the Virtual Machine and try again directly to the primary partition tomorrow.

Hi,you mean already try installed this new OS into your Mac mini ?

For anybody wondering: At this time, I am planning on creating a brand new patcher for Monterey. I plan on using a fully native approach (IE not using OpenCore), and supporting only Metal-comptible systems (2012 and later, plus older systems with upgraded video cards). If this ends up being a huge pain I may reconsider, but as of now I will start working on a patcher within the next few weeks.
Welcome back

Has anyone tried on a MacBookPro 11,1? I'm not at home so I'm creating an install drive using OCLP 0.1.7 with preliminary Monterey support using team viewer and a vm.

So nVidia Kepler cards still work in Monterey? What chances are that they will remove support in the final release? (But then we can use drivers from beta, can't we?)

Many thanks for your work gathering all this info and updating the patcher!

Should MBP10,x be added to the list of "potentially capable of being patched " on p.1? Also, I guess, should all the models in "newly dropped" be in "potentially patched" too?

Yep. I would imagine they will remove the drivers from final release as it would be pointless to include them. As you suspect though, we should easily be able to inject the drivers down the line if required.

is it possible to make text bigger in retina hd4000?

will opencore legacy patcher fix that later?

thx

I have the same problem, MBP10,2 refusing to run in retina 2x mode, so yes, all text is tiny.

Also, I'm running a basic 'no kexts' OC (I previously updated my Wi-Fi card to a supported one), just spoofing SMBIOS BoardProduct, and Monterey installed fine (no boot loops).

I did get the thing where the whole screen went black with just a cursor and a (tiny!) white spinning wait icon at one point (after successfully installing), but I think other machines are getting that too?
