I wonder how many people really use LaunchPad? I never used it once. The only person I know personally who uses it is a moron friend who installs every piece of crap app and malware that pop ups tell him to install. I asked why do you use your computer like that and he says ‘Because I want to’.

His LaunchPad looks like an Art Gallery of Malware.

So I said stop messaging me for help whenever you computer feels slow.
i use launchpad on my macbook all the time, to open my most-used apps (full disclosure: i have had the dock locked away since 10.3.9); a simple trackpad swipe, click on an icon, work. nice!

I do the same. When I have all my apps in the dock my bad eyes sometimes has trouble finding what I need. Launchpad on my iMac has like, enormous icons so that’s not an issue 😝

This has made me sort my Launchpad out and put my main apps on the first page - I can access it any time by pinching 4 fingers (plus thumb works too) - and potentially use it instead of the dock. Let's see.

Edit: Having discovered I can change the number of rows and columns, it's starting to look ok, and less like a toy (aka iPad).
defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-rows -int x defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-columns -int y killall Dock

I do and find it quite useful, it really does feel unloved though having been essentially unchanged for over a decade now. I also dislike how it takes over the whole screen.

Personally I'd have it be a pop up from the Dock which then shows you Recently Used Apps, a grid of Favourite Apps you can pin, and then All Apps.

Is there any bug fix to Preview?
Especially the bug when the background wouldn’t automatically switch to dark/light mode without completely quitting the app? Can somebody test it?
I answer to myself: that’s not fixed…

Amazing, removing helpful stuff was stupid idea in first place.
it's a beta; in fact, the first beta. maybe they chose to get the new settings up & running, and planned to bring back the videos... in a later beta (am just speculating of course).

people don't seem to understand the beta concept. and as i've mentioned before... wait till us public beta users show up on the forum; then all hell will break loose... 🤪

EDIT: lol, and it's a first developer beta. if any developer out there doesn't know how to use the trackpad on their mac, they should have their developer license revoked 🤣

Here's a random cute thing I discovered while doing a fresh install today: in languages that use gendered nouns you're asked for your preferred gender.
You can pick male, female or go the neutral route and have sentences constructed in a way that doesn't reference your gender

My favourite new feature is that on my 2020 iMac 27" it kernel panics every 40 seconds from boot (have tried clean install as well as upgrade). I'll try again with beta 2 but keeping to only Monterey for now. A shame cause I want to play a lot more with Distributed Actors. Oh well, can still play with it to some degree from Monterey and iPadOS 16 which runs quite well for me.
(KPs have been reported)

AFAIK this is not a new feature. macOS 12 and iOS 15 have this too, but I think it is limited to Spanish. It seems that they have extended it to Italian though.

As casperes1996 correctly pointed out, some languages rely on the term of address to inflect words that are directed at the user. English does not have this problem, at least not that I am aware. I do not think that this feature applies to grammatical gender in general, only for this particular use case.

Michael Tsai has a good write up on the new Settings design that touches on a bunch of the things mentioned here. The comment on the loss of the Trackpad preferences design is one I agree with pretty strongly – it was such a great way to introduce people to some not-so-obvious gestures.
Craig Federighi recently said those videos will come in a new format in a future beta, they were not ready in time for beta 1

How did I not know about this? Fantastic trick! I agree this makes Launchpad much more useful.
