A while back, I had a 2006 white MacBook 2,1 that I managed to get El Capitan running on….. There is definitely a kind of “black magic” involved in what kind of USB stick or external HDD/SSD that the 2006-2009 machines will accept for an install. For me, I used an (originally internal) HDD from 2006 connected on the outside of course via usb<->sata as my usb install stick…..Like you say, to get Ventura running on a very old machine, I would imagine that there would be some trial and error and “Black Magic ” in choosing a certain kind of USB stick or HDD/SSD for install.
The Samsung evo are extremely fast and compatible with the MacPro 2009.

I have a Late 2009 iMac 27" 11,1 with a K2100M. I use OCLP 0.6.1 and am running 12.6.3. It is very stable for me.

Is the current version of OCLP stable enough for this Mac to consider upgrading to Ventura? Although it's not a work-critical machine, it's for my son - so stability is most important here.

Although I didn't get an answer to my above query, posting again for context, and I'll add a supplemental question:

I searched, but didn't see anyone successfully trying on a Mac mini 5,1. I have one in a closet I could use to test to help the community. Is it worth the time and effort to attempt an upgrade to Ventura?

Hello. I have the following issue: I had all the functionalities of Handoff working well some time ago between my Mac and my iPad, but now, for some reason, I can't use the Sidecar function (using my iPad as a second screen), altough all the other Handoff functions (ex. Universal Control) still work fine. Does anyone know a solution for this? My devices are:
  • MacbookPro11,3 running Ventura 13.2
  • Ipad 6th generation runniing iOS 16.1.1
  • Opencore 0.6.1 with Feature Unlock enabled
Any help appreciated, Ivo.

You could try yourself and post your findings here.It would help others. Cheers

Using OCLP 0.6.1 to install Ventura 13.2 on a Mac Mini 2012.. I had the same issue as Newfylox and others.. “An error occurred preparing the software update” at about the twenty minute mark.

Then when you hit "Ok," this pops up:
View attachment 2151056

The method described above by houser fixed the issue and the install completed successfully.. So, for recap.. to get out of the above window, select Restart at the upper left while holding down the Option key. Select EFI Boot, then Install MacOS Ventura, select Disk Utility, then "View - Show all devices." Next, open container and select the APFS volume and delete it using control-click. Finally, select the disk you are installing Ventura on to and press Erase (for SSD: APFS, GUID partition map). Quit Disk Utility, then back at the installer, select "Install MacOS Ventura." .. I've never used the control-click (NOT right-click) feature of Disk Utility to delete an APFS volume before, so thanks houser for the tip!

As far as Ventura 13.2 itself.. On the plus side: On my 2012 MM, it boots a little faster than Monterey -and- AirDrop works instantly (unlike Monterey’s one-out-of-ten successful Airdrops).. On the negative side: right off the bat, I had super slooow and even completely dead Internet speeds for all apps, browsers, etc. Searches here revealed many people have experienced this going all the way back to Ventura betas.. In addition to rebooting the modem, router and the Mac, peps suggested these steps:

Settings - Network - Ethernet - Details.. - Limit IP address tracking - off
Settings - WiFi - Details.. - Limit IP address tracking - off
Settings - select account user name at top - iCloud - Private Relay - off
Safari - Preferences - Privacy - Hide IP address from tracker - off

Initially, none of these fixed the issue. But, about 45min later, the Internet starting working again.. I even turned all of these settings back on and the Internet continues to work. So, I don’t know for sure what fixed it.. and I'm still not sure it's 100% fixed because some websites still load very slowly... so... I turned all of these back off 🙃😂.

PS: Oh.. And in case you didn't know, Ventura enables FileVault disc encryption by default. Since I need every ounce of speed I can get out of this old mac.. Settings - Privacy & Security - ..scroll down.. FileVault - turn off.
I had the same isue on MM 2012 with Ventura 13.1 and 13.2, first time instalation worked after the 4th restart. Seccond time it worked after i have restarted the instalation procces without erasing the hard disk.

If you select Mac Journled while erasing the ssd in lieu of APS this error wont come up.

still very impressive, i also have used the GMA 950, terrible GPU...
OT:
Yes, BT and Wifi worked, but due to GMA950 internal GPU no accel under El Cap. System still quite usable, though, no comparison to unaccelerated Ventura ;-) with its super-laggy window open/close periodsy

I got an iMac 2012 and MacBook Pro 2021, just installed Ventura on my incompatible iMac yesterday and was once able to mirror / extend my MacBook screen to iMac

However, when I tried to do this again today by choosing the name of my iMac under the Screen Mirroring menu in MacBook, an error message popped up and the name of my iMac then disappeared in the Screen Mirroring menu😧

Has Apple just blocked all incompatible Mac from the Airplay function (despite the use of OpenCore Legacy Patcher)? It's weird that I can mirror / extend my iMac screen to MacBook, but not the other way round.

Thx for the help. Which attribute in the FireWire kext Info.plist may need to be modified, and to what value? Or is it enough by ticking the FireWire Boot option in OCLP build? Furthermore, I tried to replace the AppleUSBLegacyHub.kext with the default AppleUSBHub.kext in Ventura recovery mode (kextunload and kextload were successful but kmutil install --update-all --force --volume-root /Volumes/Ventura failed (asking for KDK which was not installed at the time), not sure if it is necessary to run the kmutil install command?) but did not succeed: The root patched Ventura still failed at the very beginning of the boot process caused by inactive external USB ports. I suspect this AppleUSBLegacyHub.kext may be the cause.
Update-1: Installed 13.2 KDK and applied root patch again and failed boot again. Booted to recovery trying to unload the AppleUSBLegacyHub.kext but it disappeared in /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins. The AppleUSBHub.kext is there instead.
Update-2: Had a closer look of the AppleUSBHub.kext and can't tell if it is from the 12.6.2. Please see the attached file for details.
Any suggestions?
Update: Tried OCLP v053 for the root patch, which only applied Nvidia graphics acceleration. The iMac10,1 successfully booted up with the original OCLP v062n EFI. Graphics looked good (dock & menu bar are semi-transparent and external monitor worked as well). But it was still very laggy.
This test indicates either the WiFi, or the USB 1.1 (or the combination of the 2) root patch caused all 4x USB ports on the back panel disabled at the very beginning of the Ventura boot up process.

I have a problem with trying to set the screen saver. As soon as I try to open "screensaver" in the "settings" app, my computer freezes. I can't click on anything and have to hold down the power button to reboot. Anyone else having this problem? My computer details below (11,4)

My 2012 machines haven't been very good at that either. Mirroring/extending the screen works well with my 2017 MB and my 10th generation iPad, but next to never with MBP 9,1 and 10,2. OCLP does enable those features. I guess it's a hardware (Bluetooth version) issue.

For as long as I have been running macOS on my unsupported MBP6,2, I have been using boot-arg amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1. I noticed that Open Core Legacy Patcher is using boot-arg amfi=0x80 to partially disable AMFI for my rig. Does anyone know where I can find documentation on the amfi=0x80 boot-arg? Thank you.

ASentientHedge answered this on Discord Server. amfi=0x80 (amfi=128) is the same as amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1. The boot-args are interchangeable.

EDIT: Contrary to my original question where I state "partially disable," amfi=0x80 fully disables AMFI (just like amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1).

EDIT: The OCLP code is well documented in the code. The amfi table above is available in OCLP 0.6.1 python source file data/amfi_data.py.

One issue on my 2012 Mini is that VMware Fusion 12 does not work. The following post is similar as to the errors mentioned such as "Transport (VMDB) error -14: Pipe connection has been broken":

So I tried my VirtualBox install and that needed to be upgraded to Version 7 which does run under Ventura and OCLP. I had to export my VM image to OVF format but you need the Pro version of Fusion where mine was the regular one. Fortunately, I had an old VMware 11 downloaded trial version and installed that on one of my other partitions running Mojave to convert the VM image.

Hi All.

I have a cMP 4,1 flashed to a 5,1 installed with a Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 8GB GPU. Also, 48gb 1333mhz DDRAM, 2 regular spinning HD (1TB with Monterey installed--not an issue) and 640gb with Ventura 13.2

I used oclp 0.6.1 and everything is fine on Ventura except I cant install the post installation "AMD Polaris" patches for the Rx580 , so i currently have no HW acceleration for the Rx580. I've downloaded the latest KDK for 13.2 but it still gives me the following dependency error:

com.apple.kext.AMDRadeonX4000 names a dependency on com.apple.iokit.IOAcceleratorFamily2 , which was not found

Any assistance on what could have gone wrong or how to resolve this. Thank you so much for any help on this.

Only some screensavers work. Dont try that dont work as it requires metal graphic cards. Or your pc will freeze.

Ok, so I have opencorelegacy patcher running on a 2011 iMac (Ventura), 2012 MacMini (Ventura) and trying to get it working on my 2016 MacBook Pro but having issues. I am using v0.61 and get through the install of Ventura but the patcher is failing with an error code -71. It can't rebuild the cache and is complaining about a unresolved dependency and I cannot find any information what the problem is or how to get rid of or what the dependency is for: com.apple.driver.AppleInputDeviceSupport names a dependency which was not found 'com.apple.iokit.CoreAnalyticsFamily'

Is there any way around this?

Mojave works pretty well on the old Macbooks as well (a 4,1 in my case), with the same caveats. I couldn't get High Sierra to install, and Catalina just KPs.

"The old MacBooks" differ: You max out with Lion on a 1,1 / El Cap on a 2,1 and 3,1 / Ventura (!) on a 4,1.
And also don´t confuse the MBs with MBPs of the same type number ;-)

Thanks.....is it because it's an older metal graphics set up? This is what I have:

Intel Iris Pro:

Chipset Model: Intel Iris Pro

Type: GPU

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 1536 MB

Vendor: Intel

Device ID: 0x0d26

Revision ID: 0x0008

Metal Support: Metal 2
