When I was first patching my MBP6,2 with OCLP 0.6.1 (upgrading from High Sierra), I found it easier to first upgrade to Big Sur before attempting Monterey and Ventura. Have you tested Big Sur?
BigSur is steady and works well in older unsupported macs.. i have divided my ssd into 2 containers, 1st is Bigsur and other is Ventura on my old unsupported mac. Both work well though Ventura is my daily driver.
Keeping BigSur is only for a purpose. That is whenever Apple plans to update the firmware it would support the hardware of the old mac. With Ventura Apple already withdrew hardware support to wifi, bluetooth, graphics, usb etc for older mac so newer updates may create issues in my opinion.

Just my thoughts. ✌️

With all the issues that my MacPro 4,1 has with Ventura… i give up and ended up installing and replacing MacOS with Windows 11 Pro and works like any other PC. I am not replacing in my other Macs the OS.
Try OCLP with Monterey. Works well. I am also running Ventura with the nightly 0.62 build of OCLP and an external BlueTooth dongle via USB 2 hub. That works ok. But Monterey looks more solid. No root patches are required on my 5,1
config.

I had the opposite effect on my 5,5 Mid 2009... Big Sur was slow and laggy but Monterrey has been working better than any other MacOS I have installed. However, on my 11,4 Ventura 13.2.1 has been solid, overall.

Assuming you're referring to MP5,1, some will require root patching depending on their graphics.

@mikelets456 I'll venture a guess that your laggy Big Sur experience was purely an OCLP patching problem and nothing to do with Big Sur. Not sure whether this patching is due to an OCLP bug or something else, but Big Sur should perform well if Monterey performs well (on your 5,5).

Which OCLP version do you prefer/use with Monterey?

Apple seeded the second Beta of macOS Ventura 13.3 (22E5230e) to developers
Thanks! On MBP5,2, installing 13.3b2 now over b1.

OTA update went unattended up to login screen.
Then as usual connected external keyboard/mouse via USB hub.
Applied post-install patches from latest OCLP 062n (10Feb), internal devices also work after that as usual.
13.3b2 works well enough as b1 did (ie Safari blank pages, Firefox as workaround).

Just checked, and I'm not able to play MP4 H.265/HEVC files on QuickTime Player and VLC. I suppose I just need to hold still and wait for a patch.
Yep, I have the same problem. Since this codec is increasingly used everywhere (including on the iPhone) it is very disabling. Hopefully the smart people behind OpenCore Legacy Patcher will come up with a solution. In the mean time, macOS Monterey remains my main OS (which plays the files without any problems).

It is not a matter of preference anymore, as I have only Ventura 13.2.1 installed on 2 computers, but I noticed OCLP 0.4.11 will have SIP enabled, but anything later has a partial SIP enabled system. Someone on the forum said, "Nothing higher than 0.4.11 is necessary for Monterey", but I used 0.6.2n on that older iMac with Monterey, and it worked fine. No root patches required on the iMac and there were no serious bluetooth or USB issues, even during the OS install. That info is reference material only and limited to the iMac 15,1 from late 2014.

I apologize if I'm late to the party but I have a Mac mini 2012 (Model Identifier: Macmini6,2) with opencore legacy, and so far everything has been working great and I've been able to install most updates, but the most recent update I haven't been able to install:

Has anyone been able to get past this or am I better off nuking my install and using this system as a linux box?

Download Ventura from the link below (full version, Delta not possible)

Hello When I try to install Ventura on an iMac 2009 (10.1) core two duo The installation hangs. On restart it shows me a circle crossed out with a diagonal line. what can I do, anyone have an idea. Thank you so much

I'm also new to this thread, but have been reading through old posts to find out to what extent I can upgrade my aging Macs to Ventura using OCLP. I started the other day with my 11 inch Macbook Air 6,1 and Ventura 13.2.1 on OCLP 0.6.1. This didn't go well, as booting the USB installer which I had created led to a kernel panic.

However, I fared much better with Monterey 12.6.3 and it is running smoothly now, except for two strange issues with the Microsoft OneDrive app, which in one of three accounts shows graphical glitches and deleted a bunch of files on each account without being prompted, although I could recover them from the recycle bin. Not sure if this has to do with running a patched version though.

I have two questions now:
(1) How risky would it be to try and upgrade my Monterey installation to Ventura which is offered in Software Updates? Is it likely that the kernel panic will also occur if I install it that way?
(2) I also want to use OCLP to upgrade an old Macmini 6,2 currently running Catalina. Does anyone have any suggestions whether it would be preferable to use Big Sur, Monterey or Ventura?

I will also look into older posts here and elsewhere and post about my experiences. If these two Macs remain stable, I will try to upgrade my Macbook Pro 11,5 to Ventura.

Particularly for the first year that Ventura exists, it will be a work in progress with OCLP, especially for HD 4000 machines like your Mac mini. For the next year, you could also consider macOS Monterey instead. I have 2 HD 4000 MBPs and an HD 4000 hackintosh that I spoof as a mini 6,2, and they all run Monterey with OCLP as well as my 2020 Intel MacBook Air.

With the OCLP post install patches, Monterey is stable for HD4000 machines as of right now and likely will be for the next 1.5 years of security updates. Ventura will reach maturity and most of its growing pains (even for natively supported systems) should be resolved by autumn in 2023. If OCLP is still going strong then, that might be the best time to take your mini to Ventura. Until then, under the assumption that Apple doesn’t make so many major changes to MacOS Monterey, that operating system and OCLP should be stable for your hardware— just remember to run the post install patches after every single update.

You have to boot efi first -than choose the installer.

This is the sad reality of today. The tables have turned.

Thank you. I think will also use the latest OCLP with Monterey on MBP11,1 (13" end 2013). It will also need no root patches.
Still running native Big Sur on this machine until Apple support will end probably this Fall.
Verified that Monterey and Ventura (this with root patches) work fine on that machine with various OCLPs.

My 2009 Mac mini 3,1 is working fine with OCLP and Monterey. All hardware features are working. Wifi, ethernet, bluetooth. Can play H.265 movies on VLC player.

I have upgraded the old Hard disk with a crucial 250 SSD. It gets decent speed with 130MBps read, and 100 MBps write. Somehow it is not working at the supposed full speed of 1.5 Gbit.

Only issue I have is sometimes, a few hours after starting the system, it can't launch any apps. I have to log out and log in to launch apps.

I will wait for Ventura to get more support from OCLP before testing it out. Right now Monterey is working great.

I am applying OCLP on iMac13,2 for several years. Every time I upgrade macOS, the post-install patch does not work, causing KMErrorDomain Code=31. Now I use Ventura 13.2.1 + OCLP 0.6.2n. The only solution so far is to reinstall of the os from scratch. It is uneasy to do esp. doing remotely. Any idea?

How much Ram is installed? Check activity monitor for ram swap. I doubt the situation will improve with software updates.
