Hi everyone. Just bought a MacBook Air 5,1 for my travels. I have updated it to the latest available 15.xx and run all firmware updates. I try to install Ventura using OCLP. As soon as I press the Option key and select the installer, I get a forbidden symbol 🚫. I have tried two different usb ports, and created the bootable USB on two different USB sticks. What am I doing wrong? 🤔

Thank you

Edit: Just tried the "Ignore ownership on volume" trick, but no luck: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/226983/mac-wont-boot-from-usb-drive-prohibited-sign

Also just to add, the bootable was created with an M2 MacBook.

At the beginning of the Ventura it had problems running on the Macbook pro mid 2012, now that it has received several updates, it is running well on the Mac. Which suggests that OCLP runs well when Apple stops messing with the system too much.

Hello Good People,

I am so grateful for the incredible members of this forum that helped in getting Ventura 13.6.7 installed on my MacBookPro8,3.

By chance I have not been able to get Stage Manager working. Just checking in to see if there was a workaround or some kinda trick if possible.

Hi everyone!

I'm finally ready to give OCLP (Sonoma?) a try on my late 2013 15" MacBook Pro with the 2.3GHz i7, 16GB RAM and nVidia GT650M. I'm currently running MacOS BigSur 11.7.10 with the latest firmware 478.0.0.0.0.

Mods:
Patched firmware with a physical chip reader/writer in order to allow undervolting again.
1TB Western Digital SN580 SSD with ssdPmEnabler kext to reduce idle power draw.
Honeywell PTM7950 thermal pads.
Undervolted with voltageshift.

Can I install it while retaining all my apps and data or does it have to be a fresh install?
Will it update my firmware requiring me to patch it again?
Does voltageshift still work?
Does it include SSD power management optimizations? EDIT: looks like it does and can be enabled from settings.
Does it support my integrated and dedicated GPUs? EDIT: Looks like it does.

Thanks!

problem with Keynote under Ventura
I use Opencor 1.5.1
The problem is: If I import a video into Keynote, I can see and play it on the work slide. If I go into presentation mode and start the slide, I only get a black screen at the point where the video is. But the sound plays.
Does anyone else have the problem or would like to test it?
My computer is an iMac 12.2 with an Nvidia k4100, all under Ventura. Keynote is version 14.1 but the previous ones also have the same problem. Otherwise everything works very well.
Is there perhaps a solution?
Thanks in advance

The version of OCLP 1.5.0 has now been released. However, I have discovered a bug.

When I try to install the root patches on macOS Ventura, the installation aborts with the message “Please ensure that you do not have any updates pending”

This refers to the update to macOS Sonoma which is pending. But users of macOS Ventura deliberately do not want to install this. It is therefore no longer possible to install the root patches on macOS Ventura because the update to Sonoma is pending.

Can other macOS Ventura users reproduce this bug?
I had this issue with my 5.1 when I wanted to install root patches with OCLP 1.5.0. There is a video which explaines the cause and a fix for it:

Running 1.4.2/13.6.6. In order to install a certain third party utility I want to temporarily completely disable SIP.

-Is this possible? If so, best way to do this? From Recovery or from OCLP settings? (See screenshot below)
-Is there any chance that completely disabling SIP then returning with the default, custom SIP re-enabled will cause any harm? i.e. how risky is this?

Good tip!
Thanks for sharing:)

Not possible due to framework downgrade, unfortunately..

So I went ahead and learned some more and did it. Couldn't be happier. It seems to run better and more efficient than ever on Sonoma! To answer some of my own questions:

Can I install it while retaining all my apps and data or does it have to be a fresh install?
-Yes, you can do an upgrade install and keep all your data.

Will it update my firmware requiring me to patch it again?
-It does not update the firmware. I guess the latest firmware you have stops at where Apple stopped supporting it.

Does voltageshift still work?
-Yes!

Does it include SSD power management optimizations?
-Yes! It includes NVMe Fix kext which works even better than ssdPmEnabler which I was using previously. Now my idle SSD power usage is back to 0 like my stock Apple SSD.

Does it support my integrated and dedicated GPUs?
-Yes, it supports my late 2013 15" MacBook Pro integrated and dedicated GPUs.

Anyone find a fix for HBO MAX stuttering on OCLP Ventura Safari? For me it happens about 15% of the time so mildly inconvenient but still annoying. Firefox takes up way too many resources compared to Safari, and Chrome is lol.

I'm wondering if maybe a certain version of OCLP solves this.
Debating installing the latest version of OCLP to see if it fixes the HBO stutter issues. However OCLP 1.5.0 seems to make some major root level changes. Will I be able to downgrade to 1.4.3 or 1.3.0 again if I upgrade to the new system in 1.5.0?

Are all 3 background login items necessary for OCLP? I installed and re-installed different versions to test and during the last install it added another item with the developers name. This was previously not added under the exact same version.

To add to the above, I get persistent OCLP app update alerts on boot up even though I've checked "Ignore App Updates". How do I stop this?

I gave up on Safari after I couldn't get it to play 4k videos on YouTube. I enabled hardware acceleration in Chrome and all videos play without stutter and with relatively low power draw at all resolutions...

I'm wondering the same thing. I actually have way more things in my "allow in background". I just removed a bunch of them from old apps I used to use, but some I'm unsure about. I wish these pointed back to the apps they were for a bit better. Is there any guide out there to these items, at least what's needed for OCLP or added by it?

You can use the free version of the app LaunchControl to have a look at the login items and what they do.

Safari works far better than Chrome, and DHCP copyright is not an issue on Ventura. I’ve resorted to using Firefox just for HBO since it uses about the same level of system resources.

I figured out if you go to LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons and delete the plists, it clears the background login items. However when you repatch OCLP it adds them back, so i’m unsure if they’re needed for OCLP to function properly.

But I did discover deleting the 1 OCLP plist in LaunchAgents disables the bootup OCLP app upgrade prompt so that’s likely a bug where the “Ignore App Updates” toggle isn’t programmed to correctly update the plist.

I agree OCLP needs better documentation but also there are lots of little things like this that a poorly coded.

This is only a temporary fix for me until I get a new mac though as I don’t trust OCLP completely and it also leaves your system vulnerable to some extent.

Why does Safari work "better than Chrome"? Is it playing 4k videos on YouTube for you?

Just tested and yeah it's playing YouTube 4k just fine, without stutter. It is using a lot of system resources but that's to be expected on an old Mac regardless of browser. I normally only go up to 1440p since that's the max supported by my display.
