I have successfully installed macOS Monterey(and Safari 16.1) on my Mid 2010 MBP(MacBookPro6.1). But I'm having problems loading certain web pages. The screen just freezes. I'm thinking about installing the os again, and this time install macOS Big Sur. But the Safari that comes with the macOS Big Sur seems to be also version 16.1. So what should I do? Any piece of advice is appreciated.
Perfect, so, you see if you take the time you will succeed.
As for reinstalling, I would stick with it, use another browser for those sites that don’t work with Safari, Brave for instance is one that I use.
The problems will be resolved, for instance with a new Safari version, or even better OCLP support.

The MacBookPro9,1 runs fine here with macOS 13.1 Beta (via OCLP 0.5.1) on internal SSD.

Thanks to all developers involved for the great and continuing work that’s been done 👏

By first installing a fresh Catalina (latest full installer on bootable USB flash drive) I also was able to update its very Firmware from 233.0.0.0.0 to 429.0.0.0.0.

The Firmware update itself got installed as part of the latest Catalina Security Update 2022-005 (19H2026) then. The Security Update did misbehave at the end, so it rendered the external Catalina system unbootable, but at least and fortunately it got well past the part where the Firmware got installed (the visual cue while installing Firmware update is a 'thicker' gray progress bar, which takes maybe about one minute to complete).

All this was done from one external USB 3.0 flash drive - with bootable installer on it - to another formatted empty one.

Conclusio: so at least with this Intel MacBook Pro generation (2012, nonRetina) you don’t necessarily need to install the system to a internal drive, or original Apple HDD one, etc., when all you want is to bring the firmware up to date. This most probably has changed with later Intel Macs that came with T or T2 chip.

But to keep lurking problems to a minimum it is still recommended to make such installations to the main internal drive, if you don’t want to take more risks than needed.

Hey what method / software did you use to make a full system image? I’m a bit all over the place with trying to pick a good backup method, especially because TM with an OCLP is questionable. Thanks
I used clonezilla, which has always served me well in the past.
The interface isn’t pretty, but it gets the job done for me😅

following OCLP guide, that’s exactly what I did for both of my kids 2012 MBP (9,2) install Catalina first to get latest firmware update (429.0.0.0) fresh USB Ventura installer , very smooth, quick OCLP 0.5.2 Ventura installation. I'm keeping Catalina on external drive for now for maybe? more future firmware releases but i highly doubt it.

Just FYI, really just a minor issue: Safari shows a dark line across the top of the tabs intermittently.

I used OCLP 0.5.1 for these installs. Been using Ventura on these machines for the past few days and have been pleased with the performance of this OS on these machines. I will wait for OCLP to be available for my 2012 cMP, then I will update the OS on my desktop to Ventura. There are some adjustments in getting used to using the new OS but it's not bad. Seems to run just as good, if not better, than Monterey did but that's my initial impression of the new OS.

Thanks to all who have contributed to the continued development of OCLP. Amazing work, keep it going 👍

good catch, I'll check if i can replicate this issue with safari ver. 16.1 (18614.3.2.11.2) MBP (9,2) Ventura 13.1/OCLP 0.5.2n for the next 30 mins to 1hr.

Hey, I got 13.0 with 0.5.1 on my 6,1 Air, and I keep getting EXC_BAD_ACESS (SIGBUS) KERN_MEMORY crashes with almost any task! Can somebody please help me?

Best and save is disk utility also with unsupported Macs; see

Do not use timemachine, mine did not work, it would not boot normally, only a safe boot worked.
Also, do not use OTA to upgrade from former versions, I did this just to see if it works, took the change, didn’t work for me, some though reported succes.
Just go directly from Catalina to Ventura with a USB installer.( If Catalina is on APFs)
If you move directly from Catalina to Ventura, make sure all the third party software you use is compatible. You might need to upgrade a number of those programs.

I can think of only two things then, either you're not formatting the internal drive properly OR try a different thumb-drive/external USB drive that you're using to do the install.
I’ve built 3 drives now. Every damn one does it.

I gave up and just put Linux on the thing. I’m disgusted with it.

I used OpenCore Legacy Patcher vers. 0.5.1 to install Ventura 13.1 on my 2012 MacPro desktop tonight. It took three reboots of the installer to do the complete install and on the fourth reboot I was able to log in and checked the "About this Mac" to see this.

Even on my 2012 desktop everything is very responsive (with exception of Bluetooth - not functional). I installed this on my PCIe 2TB NVMe M.2 970 EVO 2TB drive. Could not be happier with the results since I can still use a wired keyboard and mouse until the Dev team can resolve the bluetooth issue hopefully. Awesome work by everyone on the Dev team, thank you!

Running into the same issue with the weather app crashing on the Mid 2012 MBP. Any fixes/alternatives you guys are using?

What other apps are causing issues for people on here?

Oh this is great. There’s so much conflicting info out there about TM on an OCLP patched system. I still run TM backups, although I don’t think they’ll be bootable unless I unpatch the system prior to backing up, every time, but at least my user files are definitely backed up. But this is a good backup backup for a really rainy day.

Not sure if this graphical glitch has been reported before (couldn't pick up anything in a search) but certain websites on Safari (Youtube being one of them when trying to play a video) creates a weird broken screen type of effect (see screenshots). Apart from that, everything running smoothly on an iMac late 2012 13,1. Great job to all the developers involved. To think that just 6 months ago there was no hope of running Ventura on this machine.

Yeah, that's my case exactly!
Not on Safari but right on my desktop.

Do you have Safari open when it happens? Mine seems to be specifically Safari related. I'm using Adobe Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop, Indesign , Illustrator with no graphics issues at all.

Hello everybody

No, generally I don't use Safari. But another browser might use its engine.

this issue already reported in discord, possibly a bug with 2012 MBP (9,2).

Seems to be a Kepler (GK104 based) card. So if you already have bootscreen capability (helps in navigating through the various reboots during installation) you could give it a try. Just don´t forget post install root volume patch for your GPU...
