Ok, so after install of Sonoma 14.1.1 via OCLP 1.2.1 USB stick, on iMac 15,1 5k late 2104 4Ghz Quad-Core i7 AMD Radeon R9 M290X ... it boots into Sonoma, but WiFi is disabled (and I cannot enable it). I'm currently taking a time machine backup and have set up internet sharing through my laptop & hardwire ethernet (basically using my laptop as a wifi to ethernet).2014 5k iMac ... I think that's iMac 15,1 in OCLP terminology: Sonoma 14.1.1 booted fine after install, then OCLP offered to reinstall root patches. Next reboot hangs 1/2 way through the boot. I've tried clearing NVRAM. I'm building a new OCLP installer now to see if I can fix it that way. Otherwise, is there a way to remove the root patches so I can at least get into the OS to do a backup? Failing that I guess I'll try target disk mode and back it up from my laptop...
Reset NVRAM, Safe Boot and repeat. Not sure if the lack of WiFi is due to some issue with the OCLP root patches or not, I'll try installing those once time machine is finished (which could take a very long time with ~1m files changed post Sonoma install. The last time around, I was on OCLP 1.2.0 and Sonoma booted but after root patches, would hang 50% through the boot process. Wish me luck this time around...
Whatever the Apple equivalent is, I don't have either in my Sprinter van...Woh , Sonoma 14.1.1 and Carplay. I thought Carplay works only with IOS.
Of course, I knew that Haswell refers to the Intel CPU, look at my post above, i.e., "Haswell CPU".Haswell is intel, not AMD. Just discussed the issue with an OCLP developer who wrote that AMD GPUs are free of the intel Ivy Bridge and Haswell issues. Your iMac confirms that fact.![]()
Sonoma 14.2 b3 installed on M2 MBA and iMac 15,1, (OCLP 1.2.1) no apparent issues so far.Roll on Beta 3 lol (just been released)
There are significant differences between AMD and intel GPUs irrespective of the CPU. But you know that? 🤷♂️Of course, I knew that Haswell refers to the Intel CPU, look at my post above, i.e., "Haswell CPU".
In regard to the other iMac 15,1 user with Wi-Fi issues, I have a POS router (optical fiber internet ONO) that is far too old and only has older/poor security for the Wi-Fi, but it does work. The router part of that ONO is OK, as is the internet speed. That iMac 15,1 is still quite usable, thanks to OCLP.
@Ktwo I have been using Macs for more than 30 years, probably close to 40. I am now 77 years old and there is still a lot I don't know about computer science, especially programming, networking and command line language, but simple things like the fact that most Intel based systems have an integrated GPU and a dedicated or discrete GPU is something I have known for years, especially after struggling with an older 2011 MBP! That MBP had a Sandy Bridge CPU with an integrated HD3000 GPU and an older AMD discrete GPU (can't recall the model name/number off-hand). The term "Haswell" is only one of Intel's in-house reference terms and generally it indicates the CPU. Granted each successive version of the i series have had an associated integrated GPU, the term "Haswell" or "Koby Lake", for example, refers to the CPU and integrated GPU as one unit. Satisfied? There are significant differences between AMD and intel GPUs irrespective of the CPU. But you know that? 🤷♂️
Same to me with MBA 7,2 and OCLP 1.30n.Sonoma 14.2 Beta 3 (23C5047e) upgrade from Beta 2 installed without any issues via OTA on MBP6,2 patched with OCLP 1.2.1 (Release). AMFI, Library Validation fully enabled. FeatureUnlock = Partial.
EDIT: Recovery mode boots without issues.
I don't really understand your comment "Hmmm?? Nice iMac, tho" What does that "Hmmm??" mean?Is this the same iMac from your Ventura post #7,535??
View attachment 2312142 Hmmm?? Nice iMac, tho.
How do I access the 14.2 b3 release? My iMac 15,1 OCLP 1.2.1 attempts are hanging 50% through the boot, though I'm not sure if the root patches installed correctly this time around because the root patcher did NOT restart the machine it just disappeared while running, and I had to manually reboot. This was after a very long time machine backup run. The machine spontaneously rebooted while simply scrolling in iMessage too.Sonoma 14.2 b3 installed on M2 MBA and iMac 15,1, (OCLP 1.2.1) no apparent issues so far.
Puzzled by the apparent lack of distinction between a CPU and GPU during the discussion. Didn't mean to challenge someone of experience and seniority like youself, sir. Live long and prosper. Hard stop....I don't really understand your comment "Hmmm?? Nice iMac, tho" What does that "Hmmm??" mean?
I am not attached to that machine at all, so I don't take that as an insult, as it could be, just curious.
While that iMac does have its good points, it also has some serious issues. If you connect another monitor to it, it rapidly generates some serious graphic issues, display distortion that makes it barely usable. This is a well-known issue that has been discussed on the Apple forums and other places to no end. Replacing the graphics parts doesn't fix it either, as it will reappear. As long as you don't connect another monitor, it works fine. Still, it is almost 10 years old and that shows in various ways.
The update to Sonoma 14.2 b3, for example, took at least 4 times the time my M2 MBA took.
Apology accepted, soft stop.Puzzled by the apparent lack of distinction between a CPU and GPU during the discussion. Didn't mean to challenge someone of experience and seniority like youself, sir. Live long and prosper. Hard stop....![]()
In general, Apple does not release RC versions as full installers. Even the Mr. Macintosh site has noted that fact several times. It seems like it is best to wait for a while in any case, so the OCLP developers can find the reasons for those Boot-loop issues and produce a fix. If anyone can do it, they will. How do I access the 14.2 b3 release? So I guess I'm going to install 14.1.1 one more time and try the root patch one more time, unless I can find 14.2 b3 somewhere
I think the apple menu about on iMac 15,1 machhines states Haswell, so it's natural to quote that content.Apology accepted, soft stop. That "apparent lack of distinction between a CPU and GPU" was entirely on your part alone. Look at my posts, and you will not find anywhere where I said "Haswell" was a GPU. I always referred to it as a CPU (granted all of the iCore series have integrated GPUs), but the terms "Haswell," "Sandy Bridge," etc, all refer to their respective Intel CPU line. In the future, please take care using language like "Hmm..." that can be taken several ways. Your posts and experience in this field are too valuable to waste through needless misinterpretations.
Sounds like you could safe boot into your system using Shift (hold during bootprocess) + Enter after bringing up and selecting the bootvolume screen using Alt. Then unpatch the system and boot normally without patches. How do I access the 14.2 b3 release?
