FYI, my non metal Mac which is a 2009 MB Pro I don’t use except for experiments ONLY (the thermals are horrible but it’s not a issue for me) and my iMac I only use for minor things like thing I can do my PC (I know Pc’s suck). I was only going to try the beta just to see what’s new and diagnose things that need to be improved like I do with the iOS betas every year.

OCLP has not announced official support for Sonoma yet.
At this point, I think that a natural order would be:
OCLP announces official support for Sonoma, and then after that, we all give it a try, and if it doesn’t work, then we ask “What am I doing wrong?”😉

Perhaps, just a bit more patience? It seems like you are putting the cart before the horse.

Sonoma on unsupported Macs via OCLP is not going to be ready for a while and even when it does become available, there are no guarantees about what or which machines will work at this time. Is there even a reason right now to be posting on this thread? I guess there might be if someone were to announce a viable alternative patcher to OCLP... or if someone wants to write a bunch of meaningless or off-topic posts……. or put up silly pictures?🤡....
We could do that too. 🥳

FyI, I make partitions for updating to betas so I don’t ruin my computer. 2, I have Mac’s for experiment purposes.

People just get mad over the smallest things.
Who said I was mad? My post was filled with cute emojis, you OCLP-cart-before-the-OCLP-horse-person-who-just-wanna-play-in-the-sandbox-with- @deeveedee -person , you! 😘

Most of us right now (including myself) are just exercising my previous point about silly, meaningless posts. But since there’s no patcher right now, we’re all just a bunch of peeps, hanging out in a room, shooting the $h!t, right? Who cares! 🥂🍻🥂 PEACE! ✌🏻

Thanks--- That's good to know. Is there a section for which PCs can have a Mac os? I have a Lenovo Quad core i5 that I'd love to use as a spare Mac....
Not sure but I guess your CPU is an old family, not able to have latest macOS versions, maybe it's a bit problematic to go to macOS.

This is a good starting point (OpenCore developers guides):

So I found some things on my my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro running macOS 14 worth mentioning. With using the updated kexts (WhateverGreen, Lilu) CPU performance is better than Ventura. Also boot times aren’t broken. Graphics are horrible but still testing different kexts including unsupported Opencore one’s. WiFi still doesn’t work. Screen mirroring works with the AirPort kext. If anyone has questions feel free to ask. My email is 96gamertech101@gmail.com

Sorry I didn’t mean you. I pressed the wrong button. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You don’t need to apologize to me or be too serious…. We are all here for the computer knowledge and the *ocassional* catty chat-drama. Just have fun! You can troll me a little bit any time you want. ❤️❤️❤️🤪

Just be careful about getting into it with any of the OCLP developers in these forums / threads if any of them make an appearance. We try to display only thanks and adulation when interacting with them.

(Except for Ausdauersportler…. He is super, super brilliant, but always grumpy and annoyed with us…. J/k! J/k!…. We love you, Ausdauer!!! )

N.B: you only tease the ones you love! 😉😘

Really sucks they made the sonoma-development branch private, who cares if you break your macbook it's your problem if you dont know how to fix it in the first place. They should make it public so us technical people can try to help and what not. They never made the ventura development branch private last year when they were working on it.

Have you checked lately instead of just spreading old "news"?

Thanks, good to know that the multiple-Data happened on iMacs.
RogueB was successful with OTA 14.0b1 -> b2 on MBP5,2, in my case it was possible to install b2 from USB installer to a USB disk. But you are right, Sonoma can wait.

Anyway I am happy to have a way forward for exercising Sonoma on my MBP5,2 without bothering developers with it (I hope I didn't).

Just continued the CCC exercise - ran it to bring the latest data from my production machine (MBP16,1, 13.4.1) to the properly working 14.0b2 on the external disk of MBP5,2.
The disk was not bootable afterwards. It seems the system volume was gone, and the data volume was renamed to without - Data. I think I know that from Big Sur times (was fine with Monterey and Ventura).
But it was possible to install b2 over it from USB installer, data were still in place, running fine again with latest state of my production data. Enjoying new Photos as a test.
So yes, no multiple-Data despite CCC usage.
I did exactly the other way round. I made a clone of my working 13.5b4 with onboard partion utility. Instead of using CCC clones are always bootable. Than I made an upgrade with USB Sonoma b3 installer.

This has to do with the distractions that it can generate in the group of developers.
They are working to resolve some issues we have with Sonoma, some of these issues are hard to resolve and right now some fixes are also hard to implement.
No one can guarantee that no user will bother asking for help when something doesn't work as expected. What's more, many of us know that the number of users who are going to ask for help is going to be high.
I think it's good that developers prefer to work focused on what's important.
Not forgetting anything else. The developers are NOT required to do anything specific to us, the users. I think they are free to decide how they want to work.

Personally, I recommend using an external SSD for installation because I used the SSD on my MacBook and I had to completely restore the thing. The MacBook kinda sucks but good thing it’s for testing purposes. It’s a 2009 MacBook Pro. I don’t know how it’s still works but it does.

There is so much non-information in this paired with such a self-esteem. Remarkable!

I'm no longer sure that I understand the nature of this thread, so forgive me if this is off-topic:
Sonoma 14.0 Beta 23A5286i update applied without any issues on my MBP6,2 patched with OCLP-AMFIPass-Beta4 (AMFI/LV fully enabled, AMFIPass.kext 1.3.1, Open Core 0.9.3). After the update, OCLP prompted me to re-apply post-install patches (which applied without issues). Sonoma continues to run well on this MBP6,2, despite the lack of full NVidia Tesla non-metal graphics acceleration. As a work-around for the incomplete Sonoma patching, I am using Firefox to post this.

If I understand you correctly, you installed macOS Sonoma with post install patches and your using FireFox. Interesting, how did you manage to get WI-FI working? Are you using Ethernet? I am having issues with finding a kext to get it working on my end.

Okay, well my MacBook was a testing machine. Now I went with my old iMac for testing. So, I don’t understand why you think this is non-information because I had to restore the MacBook because one of the kexts I had installed bricked the machine called I/O Configuratur for Ventura so it made me restore to an older OS.

I am using wired Ethernet with Sonoma. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NVidia Tesla non-metal graphics acceleration are not working. I have installed XCode Beta. My Sonoma "experiments" on my MBP6,2 are just for fun, as I have minimal expectations until the OCLP Devs announce support for Sonoma. For me, the fact that Sonoma installs and runs is good enough (and encouraging).

Note that I am NOT attempting to debug anything in Sonoma, as that would be pointless until a version of OCLP is released for Sonoma. At this time, I accept any issues that I encounter in Sonoma and patiently await progress from the devs.

Not making the ventura-development branch private last year is why it was decided to lock it down this year. The amount of “wen eta” and “how me fix this beta problem” outweighed every single ask of “technical” users wanting to test and report. It even got to the point where people would scream at us, and someone is still actively creating alts and harassing me about how we didn’t do enough to inform about non-metal.

It got so bad that one of the lead developers has left the Discord server because of the actions of the community.

And again, this is a free project that you don’t pay for, and that they only just now began to accept donations for. If the decision is to make developments private to literally protect our mental health, that’s the decision and it’s final.
