macOS 14 Sonoma on Unsupported Macs Thread

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this thread but not to macrumors or OpenCore. I currently have Monterey running on my 2011 iMac 12,1 but I keep being asked to update to Sonoma. I am running the 6750m that came in the iMac so it will have many of the issues people are discussing in this thread if I do update.

I know it is counter intuitive to the thread, but obviously related... Is there a way to prevent OpenCore from finding Ventura/ Sonoma and only finding Safari updates, or do I have to block all updates by disabling SIP? It's more of a nuisance to me, but if I were to give this iMac to a family member I would not want them to accidentally update and have issues.

No Restart needed. I don't have that tool in front on me anymore but I recall it was fairly intuitive to use. ...while it was about 3 months ago, when I updated from Ventura to Sonoma, I do recall that there was no restart required to use that tool.

I can confirm this works exactly as described; I now have fully functioning Bluetooth again on the cMP5,1 / Sonoma 14.2.1. Thank you *very much* for contributing this little gem — it's impossible to estimate how much (more) time I might have invested in finding a solution for this.

Periodically my machine freezes up and the only recourse is to hard power cycle (holding the power on/off). Doesn't matter what is running and I have applied OCLP 1.4.0n with Sonoma 14.3 (23D56). Its very random, ie: left it on doing a CCC copy overnight and it was fine the next day, then during the day boom.

FWIW, I have a MBP 11,4 on 1.3.0 and 14.2.1 and this happens once every 3 weeks. The screen is black but the fans are running (quietly). I have to long press the power button, reboot and all is fine for 3 weeks. Does yours happen daily?

MBP6,2 patched with OCLP 1.4.0n upgraded from 14.2.1 -> 14.3 via OTA with no issues.

EDIT: I encountered one Sonoma 14.3 issue that I doubt is caused by OCLP: Upgrade of Xcode in Sonoma 14.3 from 15.1 to 15.2 was stuck. I manually downloaded the full Xcode 15.2 to recover.

OTA did not work. Neither did an installer USB key OTT

Ended up erasing the system SSD and doing a clean install using the aforementioned USB key. That worked fine. Just glad I could boot to last-supported Catalina that I keep on standby on external SSD so I can easily reformat the main drive.

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this thread but not to macrumors or OpenCore. I currently have Monterey running on my 2011 iMac 12,1 but I keep being asked to update to Sonoma. I am running the 6750m that came in the iMac so it will have many of the issues people are discussing in this thread if I do update.

I know it is counter intuitive to the thread, but obviously related... Is there a way to prevent OpenCore from finding Ventura/ Sonoma and only finding Safari updates, or do I have to block all updates by disabling SIP? It's more of a nuisance to me, but if I were to give this iMac to a family member I would not want them to accidentally update and have issues.

I don't use the Music app as I like using an old iTunes version installed with Retroactive but I checked. Crossfading does work for the iTunes app but not for Music. I'm on Sonoma 14.2.1 and I'm not sure if the problem lies with the issue that even though both apps have their own preference folders, it seems that changing the prefs on one can affect the other. I've always had crossfading checked but it's hard to say what interaction is going on here that might disrupt some preferences.

getting a weird problem on 14.3 from my desktop when I delete something ie move to bin I have to put my password in then check I the bin its just a text icon with a ? and the bin wont empy ,if I click delete immediately I get
The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
How do I fix this?

Sonoma update from 14.0 to 14.3 was a success on my 5,1 mac pro using o.c.l.p 1.3.0. I did it through the updater app with a ethernet wire. All seems well, but my stock calculator still reads Not a number when i try to do a calculation. OH WELL. already had an alternate downloaded.

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this thread but not to macrumors or OpenCore. I currently have Monterey running on my 2011 iMac 12,1 but I keep being asked to update to Sonoma. I am running the 6750m that came in the iMac so it will have many of the issues people are discussing in this thread if I do update.

I know it is counter intuitive to the thread, but obviously related... Is there a way to prevent OpenCore from finding Ventura/ Sonoma and only finding Safari updates, or do I have to block all updates by disabling SIP? It's more of a nuisance to me, but if I were to give this iMac to a family member I would not want them to accidentally update and have issues.

iMac 11,1 +metal (AMD M5100) macOS 14.2.1 OCLP 1.3.0 works perfect and fast.

All non metal anomalies gone

• all transparency issues (flickering window panes, menu bar colors etc, and looks a lot better like macOS should)
• maps and anything relating to maps (calendar address looks up maps and will crash wo metal)
• photos work (although they were working on 11,1 but not 11,3. I suspect 11,3 +metal would just work)

GPU heat sink temp 34C as I type this post. 60C when running GPU benchmarks. Generally top of this usually hot iMac seems to run much cooler than before metal GPU. Perhaps CPU was made to work harder wo metal before? Don't really know.

I wouldn't have tried my calculator, but can confirm the same result of "Not a number"

I had the same issue on my cMP5,1.
1. Open Calculator.
2. Perform an addition operation: Error "Not a number".
3. Close Calculator.
4. Open Calculator again.
5. Perform any addition operation. Success!
6. Close Calculator.
7. Open Calculator again.
8. Perform a multiplication: Error.
...and so on.
Cycle through all operations you might think of.
Problem solved...until next restart when you'll have to go through all that again.
