Devs, first, my respect for your hard work. Second, if is doable please include BCM4352 in OCLP wifi patch. It will be a big help for a lot of people. Thank you!

MBP5,2: successfully updated external SSD from 14.0b3 to b4. Using USB installer (InstallAssistant.pkg from gibMacOS). Using today's latest OCLP 0.68n from source.

Installation fine. For root patching (i.e. Sonoma is host system) had to loosen the new host system check. Fine of course, OCLP doesn't support Sonoma yet so max OS is Ventura. The code is in resources/sys_patch/sys_patch_detect.py. Must be the same in 0.6.8 release.

Writing from Firefox (Safari, 17.0 now, has known rendering problem for non-Metal). And as always external mouse/keyboard needed until root patching is done, for USB1.1 machines. No WLAN yet but cabled Ethernet fine. No non-Metal graphics acceleration but fast enough for testing.

Thanks to the developers for the wonderful work, including for the clear and readable coding.

PS - I was using the 068n main branch. Should use the sonoma-development branch for Sonoma exercises. This allows Sonoma as host system. Just repeated patching with this branch from source, all fine. It in 0.6.9n now.
PPS - WiFi (AirPort_Brcm4331) is working with the sonoma-development branch patches.

tried latest OC builds
Post under Ventura Ok
Post under Sonoma - tell me unsupported OS
I installed under Sonoma to disk - can not reach desktop under Ventura
Starting into Sonoma all OK

????? with Version from 24.07 is all OK !!!!
same problem here on 2015 iMac Sonoma beta 4
tells about unsupported os
is testing now closed or someone can upload old version of beta OCLP?

khronokernel just changed it in the sonoma-development branch. So Sonoma host OS will be fine there. Have a look at the change log.
Hello hvds,

Same issue with iMac 13,2 (late 2012) - "... host OS not supported...", when OCLP is launched from Sonoma Beta 4. Resetting NVRam allows computer to boot into recovery partition.
I'll try latest release from Sonoma branch of OCLP.

Just a side note: There is a (viable) probability that I am able to install OS updates OTA (on MacBook Pro 5,2) because the target disk is always the internal drive(?)

I was able to update Ventura with OCLP 0.6.7 to Sonoma on an iMac 21" late 2015 (iMac16,2) using OCLP 0.6.9 (Early preview of macOS Sonoma). There have been no issues and everything has gone as expected.

This is the way I've done it.

Ventura
  • download nightly build of OCLP 0.6.9 sonoma-development branch
  • replace OCLP 0.6.7 with 0.6.9
  • create the EFI folder from OCLP 0.6.9, leaving OCLP default settings
  • turn on macOS beta updates
  • upgrade to Sonoma.
Sonoma
  • OCLP asks to root patch for Modern Wireless, not for iGPU Broadwell, the reason is that Broadwell requires KDK download and this is not possible without wifi and internet connection (I don't use Ethernet)
  • reboot >> there is wifi working but no graphics acceleration
  • OCLP asks to root patch for Broadwell iGPU + Modern Wireless, this time downloading KDK and applying patches
  • reboot >> there is wifi working and graphics acceleration.
So far everything I've tried seems to work fine, Sonoma has a similar smooth operation to Ventura.

Note: do not install OCLP version 0.6.8. To have wifi in Sonoma you have to install the nightly build from the sonoma-development branch, at least until both branches are merged.

Note 2: latest builds for the sonoma-development branch:

Thank you OCLP developers, excellent work!!!

I did not try OTA on this occasion - but is there a reason it should behave differently with an external drive rather than internal?

It is the only "notable" difference between installation method we use to install / update Mac OS versions on near identical machines. In the past (other OS versions (?)) there were problems installing Mac OS on external drives.

The latest OCLP from Sonoma branch does fix installation problems; no issues to report so far.

Thank you khronokernel et al.

I can't update from beta 3 to beta 4, your help is appreciated.

Solved: Beta update was turned off for unknown reason.

Any one succeeded with MacBook Pro 14,3? Can't be recognized to install for me.
it's ok… see some posts behind, I have MacBook Pro 14.3… you have to use an OCLP 0.6.8 n version for developers… you have to find it…
