So, I was wondering, why people blank the Mac's serial n;umber in screenshots? I've never don e mine because as far as I know it's just an identifier for apple as to whether or not apple care is still good or not. So that's why i never cover mine up because there isn't anything anyone can do with it as far as I know.

I think it goes Back to the bad old days of machine cloning forcing Apple to kick the cloned machine and donor off their Servers and the habit of hiding the S/N prevailed.

But what if I take your serial number and use it on mine or sell a Mac and be like look it’s not stolen (hmm) you can check it on Apple if you want . I remember when making a vm and creating a serial number otherwise iCloud wasn’t happy it’s more about shady practices I imagine .

Everything is now fixed, for macOS 14.4, in the latest OCLP 1.4.0 nightly build: absolutely great!:)

Only a FYI, of course: no need for most people to install 14.4 betas (but good to know that OCLP is now ready for macOS 14.4).

Have done 20+ OCLP Sonoma installs to wiped SSDs including mix of OEM Macs and iMacs with metal GPU upgrades. Seen this error multiple times in middle of the install (~20min? after starting?) Every time just "resume" installation solves it.

This one is iMac 11,3 + AMD M4000 metal GPU upgrade. OCLP 1.3.0 macOS 14.2.1 iMac works fine same OCLP macOS before. Just reinstalling and encountered this.

Not much of an issue except scaring newbies haha.

Also also seen a couple of hangs but like to gather more data before posting any summary.

I don’t understand why people continue to try to install 14.4 beta.
We all know it’s not working until OCLP developers fix it!
Unless you are participating to dev, it’s a waste of time !
Hello rbart,

I would not presume to speak for everyone who enjoys experimenting, but for myself it is an exercise in computer lore. Within the bounds of reasonable risks (probabilities of success or crash), on system(s) not used for mission critical endeavors, installing betas provides a unique learning experience. Not the least of those acquired skills, is the ability to recover from serious system failures with non-data destructive solutions.

When elements of serendipitous discovery are shared with users on the forum (not necessarily Dortania), it allows others to return their machines to operating status, or improve their functionality. In most fortuitous outcomes, the data might be very useful to actual OCLP developers. The “operating premiss” here is that, the more machines are tested, and results shared, the greater the chance to help resolve issues before formal release. Developers have a limited supply of computer models.

It would not be too much of an “overstatement” to say, that most involved in beta OS, or nightly OCLP experimental installations, know how to extricate their non-responsive systems from oblivion.

Different approaches are not necessarily lost time, nor exercise in futility.

In the spirit of camaraderie…

BTW, I wonder if paravirtualization support will ever be restored in OCLP-patched macOS Sonoma: it is needed in order to run macOS 11+ guests with accelerated graphics as virtual machines in Parallels or Fusion, but so far hasn’t worked beyond Monterey as a host, on my machine (and only with the Intel Haswell iGPU: probably because in Monterey the iGPU doesn’t yet need patching). Sometimes, I’ve run Sonoma betas in order to see if something had changed: but so far it doesn’t seem to work, yet (and ideally it should work also with the Nvidia Kepler dGPU, which is needed for external display support)…

(It looks like that, for my Intel + Nvidia GPU, the 3D acceleration situation is “opposite“ to the one on AMD: works fine for Windows and Linux VMs, but not for macOS ones.)

I searched this thread, seems like no has asked yet…..

Random fun question:

Has anybody tried syncing a Mac running OCLP Sonoma and the Apple Vision Pro?
If so, random curiosity, does it work?
(N.B.: Apple Vision Pro does sync and work with Intel Macs running Sonoma, so………)
🤔😎😉

OCLP developers were perfectly aware of what’s broken with 14.4 and macrumors forum in not their way of taking feedback.
So your tests are not very useful…

Hi, can someone kindly explain to me how to update OCLP to version 1.4.0 Nightly? Why when I update my MP 5.1 in Sonoma it gives me problems with USBs, and I read that the new version should solve the problem.

MBP11,1: 14.4b2 fine also here with latest OCLP 1.4.0n.
Booting with the newly made EFI already brought Ethernet back. New root patches everything else.

Thank you so much OCLP developers!

Edit 15 Feb: b3 also fine, updated OTA.

Hello, thank you for your response. No I can't boot in safe mode, even with a USB key it doesn't always start the boot sound in a loop with a black screen. What do you recommend? thanks in advance. Sincerely

PRAM reset.
Reboot.
Select correct efi.
Start in verbose mode and see where it’s getting stuck.

I installed macOS 14.4 latest beta on my MBP 13.2, with the latest OCLP 1.4.0 nightly build. Everything is fine, except the wi-fi.
No wifi connexion.

Edit : problem fixed, see my post below #5,195

@wolf1734 With respect; did you google to perform a PRAM reset, and how to enter verbose mode?

It’s not difficult to find.
hello thank you for your answer I reset the PRAM and the SMC but the iMac continues the same remains in a loop with the starting sound and black screen I see nothing and can do nothing.Sincerely

@wolf1734 Please repeat the installation with the OCLP USB drive in your Mac, Reboot with shift-key to the drive and repeat the installation as stated in the documentation. Do not disrupt the process and let it finish independently.
-reboot a last time and apply the Patch via de OCLP menu.

Hello and thank you.
I just started it as you told me by pressing shift the iMac made the startup noise and then nothing black screen.

Could you imagine lol however I think the Vision Pro would be best in the hands of the Devs if anyone can get it working it’s the OCLP team.

Great effort by Devs again and by beta 2 of 14.4 not even released hope no issues now up till release of 14.4.

Prior to using it as my daily driver for the next week, I let my early-2011 MacBook Pro 8,2 run the 14.3.1 update. OCLP 1.3.0 chimed in nicely and sorted out the new KDK, and after the usual series of reboots and re-patching, all is well.
