its been a while since I checked this thread so I need a crash course update

I'm running OCLP 1.3.0 with Sonoma 14.0 on my secondary computer (living room) mid 2015 iMac 21.5 and the same thing on my headless mid 2014 Mac mini redundant file network server.

I have all OS updates blocked unless u prompt it, as I have found 14.0 to be most stable of all the previous versions, but I was wondering what the general consensus was regarding upgrading to 14.3.1 now.

I think a few months ago I saw in here things weren't stable to I stayed on 14.0 but I would like to upgrade if its stable enough. only issue I have on 14.0 on my living room mid 2015 iMac is the screen will wake at random times on its own and freeze lit unless I click the mouse to fully wake it and let it go back to sleep on its own or manually put it to sleep to darken the screen.

any insight would be appreciated and I don't mind playing with this computer, but I would prefer the Mac mini server to remain perfectly stable as it has been on 14.0.
@dictoresno If you’re running happy on 14.x it’s save and easy to upgrade to 14.3.1. No problem. Stable and you get the safety updates.

And wait out for the rest.

Just curious if anyone else is seeing this:
I have a very functional setup on a rMBP mid-2012 a1398 that works well
Stopped doing betas a while back so Sonoma 14.3.1 and OCLP 1.3.0.

Curious if anyone is successfully using Screen Mirroring to Apple TV 4K on this Mac?

The only other recurring problem I see is a state where apps crash and can not be opened.
Sometimes the copy and paste creates the same issues at that time. A restart always fixes it.

I have taken to routinely zapping PRAM and rebuilding OCLP when this happens, which appears to work 100% of the time and then things are stable again for a few weeks or so after which the problems reappears.
Nothing fancy on my system these days and very little usage of unusual apps. Possible culprits are maybe apps like Little Snitch and Cookie (probably not needed anymore as Sonoma has some decent privacy functionality now)
which I have used for a long time and like but could live without out now. Will uninstall and test that if this problem stays after next the update or so.

Anyone else seeing this and has any useful tips or theories? No biggie, just curious.
Many thanks.

It has been about one day since I did the Sonoma upgrade on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro from Monterey. So far it runs Sonoma just as fast as Monterey, and that solved a few websites that acted stupid when they opened an additional tab, like the national weather service chicago site when it opened the weather story tab it would close with the problem message in safari, needing to use firefox or another browser to post the forecast on my weather page on facebook, and random mail app crashing.

So far Sonoma seems to be just as good as Monterey on it, as I kinda expected because I have Sonoma on my late 2009 iMac with the rotational hd still because I am not comfortable with opening the screen to change it to a ssd.... and Sonoma works very good on it, and my MacBook Pro has a 500gb ssd.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication from the OCLP crew.... it keeps the older perfectly functional devices up to date and seems to make them actually work better. Proves one thing, the reason older devices are cut off is so Apple can kinda force purchases of new devices.

Don’t know how many play Apple Arcade but have been giving it a go with the 3 month free trial and its working perfectly on Sonoma on my unsupported Mac with a PS4 controller, wonder if certain games only run on Sonoma (newer MacOS) that wouldn’t run on Big Sur anyhow it works great apart from the obvious ones that need M1 chips and up.

Since upgrading to 14.3.1 on a mid 2012 MBP, it hasn't been going to sleep when lid is closed? Battery drains to zero overnight? Anyone else having this?

I don't know if it's OCLP specific or because my laptop is old and peculiar. Or because of one of the things I have installed with extensions.

Also it could've been doing it since 14.3 because I was leaving it plugged in all night until the last two nights.

Probably needs a new battery. My rMBP10,1 2012 is due for a new battery, it's swelling visibly. It will be the third battery in its 12 years of life.

Also, it's well worth cleaning house by doing a clean install from time to time.

Yeah maybe its battery life just fell off the cliff. I installed it a couple years ago and it still lasts 3-4 hours of normal usage, so I thought it'd sleep all night, I'm going to do some more tests to see what's up..

I have the same Mac and see similar things when auto sleep is enabled.
Try sleeping it manually? Works here. If you come across any tricks please share. Many thanks

That's the next thing I need to do for my mid 2010 MacBook pro. Need to order a battery off of amazon. Course since I got it for free, not a bad price to do.... $50 for battery, my time to install the is I wanted and battery. not bad.

My machine shows the same issue from time to time. I figured it has something to do with many new settings (wallpaper etc) and active background processes in Sonoma. Like CGPDF. Just guessing.

Not sure this is related but I use Apple Remote Desktop regularly and it works fine when I connect though I have not attempted screen mirroring to another attached display. I did experience several kernel panics related to the Window Server Watchdog. I disabled WiFi and attached a TB ethernet adapter. No kernel panics since.

Thanks. I meant if anyone with a rMBP 2012 can mirror to an Apple TV at all? On my system it connects and behaves like it should on the Mac, but the ATV screen goes black. I see this has been an issue on some systems without OCLP also.

Works for me from a Mac mini (Late 2012), i.e. 6,2, to two different M1 Macs, and one of my two Apple TVs (both HD 4th gen). The other one is further away and my eeros are old: I think it's wifi. No need to use it as the mini in question is a kind-of HTPC connected to a TV, but tested, and for me, works. I'm on OCLP 1.3.0 and 14.3.1; after a couple of "bad days" I no longer do the PBs (!) though from what I read the 1.4 daily and 14.4r3 are working just fine.

(I also use ARD for what it's worth, and to control it when in "TV mode", Teleport. All "cousins" of VNC.)

I thought I had the latest Apple TV 4K and it is 3rd gen (A2843) ?
Just to be clear: can you share your Mac desktop screen via screenmirroring to your Apple TV?
I can do it to other Macs but not the latest (?) 3rd gen ATV 4K.

To one always; to the other sometimes, and not today. I think it’s wifi. Noting you have a 4K (mine is HD) that may be too many pixels. Have you tried extending your desktop, or mirroring with a lower resoluti9n?

Yes, I think I have tried it all.. Hopefully it will start working again down the road with some update or two...
And again, I have seen this is an issue for some non-OCLP cases also.

I tried this and I see the same issue. I have an LG OLED connected to my AppleTV and when I enable screen mirroring and select the AppleTV as the target, the target screen is blank.

Basically a 3 day update since upgrading my mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Sonoma 14.3.1 from Monterey.

It ran Monterey very nicely, and was quite fast. I decided to take the plunge Friday morning and did the upgrade OTA, and then had to use a 2.0 usb dock to do post install patches to get the keyboard, trackpad and keyboard backlight working again. Friday afternoon and evening, I was very happy with how it worked and would have been very happy if that was the best it could do, it ran Sonoma basically the same as Monterey, stable and quite fast. Used it for a couple hours on saturday and thought it was my imagination, it seemed to be slightly faster than monterey. Used it for a few hours on Sunday, and again thought my mind was playing tricks on me since it seemed even faster. Today, I know my mind is not playing tricks on me, it is extremely fast and seems very stable. In fact if it gets any faster..... may be concerned it is going to implode. It is unbelievable since it is only a 2.4 core 2 duo processor, 8gb ram and a 500gb ssd. To have a Windows system behave the way this MacBook Pro is behaving, it would have needed a i5 or i7 processor, 16gb of ram and a ssd along with a wing and a prayer. This is totally unbelievable. Got the MacBook Pro for free since the person who bought it didn't know how to update to high sierra which is the last Apple supported os for it, and figured it would be one to see what it can do.

It needs a battery, and I absolutely will be ordering a battery for it to make it perfect. All I need to do is figure out how to get the damned stickers off of the lid..... and I will have a perfect lightning fast MacBook Pro.

Once again many thanks to the crew at the OCLP project for making this possible. You all rock.

Agreed. My rMBP 10,1 and MP 6,1 run better on Sonoma than any other previous OS.

Had 2x MBP 12,1 with brand new high quality batteries on OCLP Sonoma. Had to revert to OEM Monterey due to ~2x faster battery consumption.

Sonoma/Ventura was developed after M1 release and macOS started chewing more on the processor.

Desktop usage is great, battery life can be a show stopper for some but not OCLP related, just macOS changes post M1 release.
