Also experienced this in macOS Sequoia can you post your experience on discord ?
Where? I have a Discord account, but I've never used it... I don't think there's much to share, there must be some issue with the video drivers.
Maybe the issue is only with our MacBook Pro mid 2014. Do you have the 11.3 with GeForce GT 750M? Even though I tried disabling the automatic graphics switching.

I wrote to u pv. During the post root patching process, I was prompted to give permissions from System Settings to a file. However, when I clicked 'Allow,' nothing appeared, and unfortunately, I didn’t take a screenshot of the popup with the filename. Additionally, I had to run the post root patching process twice because the first attempt resulted in errors with the files. After rolling back to OCLP 1.6, the problem was resolved.

OCLP 1.6 wouldn’t fix for me had to go OCLP 1.5 also commenting on Sequoia discussion what makes it interesting is now same error on 14.7.

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch(10,1).
I am thinking to upgrade from Catalina to Sonoma.
If you install Sonoma, I wonder if there is no big problem and what the performance is like.
Hi @figyu .
Regarding the possibility of your Mac you have to check in OCLP's compatibility lists whether it is included, but on the fly I would say yes since, oddly enough, there seem to be more problems with very recent unsupported Macs than with older ones, as long as they have Metal 2 support. Otherwise, without the Metal support, OCLP equally allows you to install Sonoma, but with several limitations and slowdowns.

That said, if your Mac is supported by Metal 2 technology, I answer your second question with an enthusiastic YES.

My late 2013 iMac (find all the features in the Signature and if you don't read it on smartphones try putting it in landscape) runs 350% better with Sonoma than with Catalina! It flies, it is very snappy, fluid (whether Finder or heavy applications or not) and you would never go back...
The Mac also flew with Ventura, at 300% better than Catalina, with Monterey at 230% better than Catalina, and with Big Sur at 150%.

Obviously these are made-up percentages to let you know how satisfied I am. 😊

MBP 10,1: Metal yes. But wasn't Metal 2 much later?

Metal 2, I just checked my retina MacBook Pro 10,1 which is a mid 2012 m/c. Both graphics cards (HD4000 & nVidia GT650M) show up in system report > graphics & displays as having Metal 2 hardware support.

Well, seems like Monterey, is officially at the end of support, and Mr. Macintosh seems to have confirmed when I checked with him. So, for now, I have 14.6.1 on this iMac 17,1 and so far no issues. Will work around the older software glitches, and I have Linux as a secondary OS. Will be keeping an eye out on the Sequoia thread to see how people do with that.

Fresh install of OCLP 1.5.0 on iMac18,1

As the built-in 5k RPM hard drive is slow, installed the OCLP-tweaked macOS Sonoma to a SSD attached to one of the USB-C / Thunderbolt ports.

Booting into that new install, immediately MacOS asks me if I want to install Sequoia beta.

Hang on, I don't think I configured OCLP for beta updates -- and in System Settings, "Beta Updates" is "Off".

Help?!?

Hi @theschles! As for the weirdness you mentioned, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe try checking the box to enable Beta updates and restarting your Mac. Then do the opposite, disable beta updates and restart. Maybe that will fix a corrupted preferences file for some reason. 🤷‍♂️

If you like, I would suggest to replace the internal mechanical drive with a modern SSD and enjoy the feeling of almost buying a new Mac 😊
OCLP is almost completely ready for Sequoia now and you can't miss out on that joy.

If anything, it will be macOS in the initial version 15.0 or 15.1 that will have problems, as in almost all initial versions. So, while OCLP would allow me to immediately upgrade my iMac to Sequoia, I would wait for version 15.3 or 15.4, since macOS only reaches good stability c.a. after the fourth version, which marries perfectly with OCLP. At least that has been the case so far.

For the HD -> SSD upgrade, you can find many tutorials on YouTube and even better if you search for iFixIt; but if you don't know how to do it, you can find a friend or a technician to help you.

I've tried the new OCLP 2.0 nightlies on my MacBookPro11,3 (Late 2013 15" Retina) with the latest macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 - so far everything is working except AVC1 video playback - other codecs can be played flawlessly. Jumping back to the former downloaded OCLP 1.6 nightly will solve the AVC1 video issues. The same problem is also mentioned on Reddit with a screenshot here to get a besser impression. Are there any changes from OCLP 1.6 to 2.0 how the video acceleration of AVC1 material will be handled? How can I force to use only the nVidia GPU for checking if it's perhaps the Intel GPU causing the issues since the problem occures also on a 13" MacBook only equipped with Intel GPU?

Update: Seems to be fixed with 2024-09-10 nightly from today 👍 - the last nightlies until 2024-09-09 had the problem! Thanks again to all the devs - you're awesome!

From 1.6 to 2 I kept having the glitch even with the latest commit.
I fixed it by reverting the root patches, rebooting in safe mode, and patching again. This time, I didn't get any errors, and the green issue is gone, but the system feels slower than before, even during boot. Also, during boot loading, the screen turns black for a moment, which doesn't happen with version 1.6.

I updated my late 2013 MBP 11,3 to the OCLP 2.0.0 (n) September 6 version and MacOS 14.6.1. Some but not all video (like video bits from the Yahoo "news" page) and also the Apple TV app fail to play properly: green pixilated images, though the sound does come through. I'm not really sure WHEN this started, but I just noticed it. Any thoughts or help out there?

Using the 2.0 (n, last mod Sept. 10 ) seemed to solve my problem. Like usual, I rebuilt and installed OpenCore, then uninstalled root patches, then re-installed root patches.

Hi! Good advice @OKonnel

Investigating further in discussions in the OCLP Discord: there might be a bug in OCLP 1.5.0.

In OCLP .pkg install (that's what I used):

When one goes into the "Download an installer" dialog in OCLP -- if one leaves the "Show Older / Beta Versions" checkbox empty -- the only Sonoma version selectable is "macOS 14.7 Sonoma (23H122)". That's a beta version -- but OCLP does not identify it as a beta version.

That's how I got into this mess.

If one enables the "Show Older / Beta Versions" checkbox, then one can select prior versions of Sonoma...including one specifically identified as "macOS 14.6 Sonoma Beta (23G5075b)". That's explicitly identified as a beta -- both with the word "Beta" in the name -- and with a "b" at the end of the patch version.

As far as I know, Sonoma 14.7 will be released next week.
The version you see listed is the Gold Master, but sometimes when the official version is released, Apple makes changes and changes the build number...

Hi guys. After watching on Youtube how OpenCore Patcher is used to upgrade old macs to new OS, I decided to upgrade my MacBookPro10.1 Retina Mid2012 to Sonoma 14.5. Let me tell you right away that it has WiFi from a newer model, Broadcom BCM94360CSAX. Installation and the first startup was successful. At first glance everything worked, all programs from autorun started, but the interface was slow. I made Post-Install Root Patch and installed Open Core on the system disk according to the instructions. From that moment on my Macbook stopped booting. Through verbose mode I saw that during the startup phase the system tries to execute the same command cyclically. I suspect that this has something to do with the WiFi adapter. At the moment the laptop starts only in Safe Mode. I'm attaching a photo of the command on which the system hangs.

I am asking for help, my faithful friend is in trouble and it is very difficult for me without him.
