Hi guys. After watching on Youtube how OpenCore Patcher is used to upgrade old macs to new OS, I decided to upgrade my MacBookPro10.1 Retina Mid2012 to Sonoma 14.5. Let me tell you right away that it has WiFi from a newer model, Broadcom BCM94360CSAX. Installation and the first startup was successful. At first glance everything worked, all programs from autorun started, but the interface was slow. I made Post-Install Root Patch and installed Open Core on the system disk according to the instructions. From that moment on my Macbook stopped booting. Through verbose mode I saw that during the startup phase the system tries to execute the same command cyclically. I suspect that this has something to do with the WiFi adapter. At the moment the laptop starts only in Safe Mode. I'm attaching a photo of the command on which the system hangs.

I am asking for help, my faithful friend is in trouble and it is very difficult for me without him.View attachment 2416274
That issue seems to correspond to the networking stack, did your machine apply the correct patches? (I’d probably try a hard PRAM reset and a repatch and see what that does..)

Patches were put the ones suggested by OCLP by default and with the MacBookPro10,1 model selection But the installed Broadcom BCM94360CSAX is not from this model. It seems to me that I need to install the driver from Broadcom BCM94360CSAX, but I don't know how to do it by hand and where to get it. It is clear that it is in OPC for the model from which this WIFI adapter comes.

Hard Reset PRAM has no effect whatsoever.

I searched the thread for this issue but couldn't see if a solution exists. I have a Mac Mini 2012 with intel i7, 6 gb ram, and the Intel HD graphics 400 (that is supposed to have support for "Metal 2"). I have Sonoma installed and the Photos app crashes when clicking the "memories" album. I see people with dual gpus have solved it by choosing the "non-intel" gpu or unchecking automatic gpu-switch. Since my mac mini only has an intel gpu I can't find a solution. Any idea? Thanks.

I’d possibly try going off of the ‘Host Model’ option and not setting a model (that will patch based off of the current device config, not what is installed in the device by default..)

No effect as in?

Error still occurs while booting OCLP?

What version of Mac OS was previously installed?

I used the ‘Host Model’, it didn't make any difference.

Yes.
Yes.
All the same.

I need your help.
I have a MacBook Pro 13 mid 2012 Intel hd4000.
macOS Sonoma 14.5
OCLP 1.5.0 with the post install root patch installed.

I had a few days where it was malfunctioning but when I reinstalled the root patch it settled down. Now I have the option to install an update.
What should I do to install the Sonoma version 14.6.1 that appears available to me in the System Settings?

Thanks and I wait your tips

Update and reboot in safe mode, then patch again. I would install OCLP 2, but you can still continue using version 1.5, even though from 1.6 onwards, my performance seems improved.

I have an iMac14,2

How would the video be with this in Mac os Sanoma or Ventura. I read the legacy support but, its not clear if the imac is stable. As it needs to be used for a video editor on Avid MC.

I would install an SSD to help with speed if yes its good. (if an external GPU

I've solved the problem.
OCLP 2.0 helped to start booting the notebook in normal mode Just reinstalled OPLC on the system disk.
Core Patches were installed crookedly and kext cache was not updated, giving error 71. How to solve this problem is described in the Troubleshooting section of Dortania on github. Now everything works and I'm very happy. Thanks to everyone who responded, you have supported me a lot.

Well, I took the dive again.. OCLP 1.5 and Sonoma 14.7. At least this time my iTunes purchased movies seem to be playing on the native screen on my 2015 15" MBP, but when I connect my OWC TB2 dock to put it on the big monitor, the video quits after a few seconds but audio keeps going, same issue as the first time I did this. First time was total wipe and videos would only stream on native monitor but not play downloaded local stored movies.. This time I did the "upgrade" from supported Monterey to Sonoma. Anyone else see this and have a workaround? This really is a bit of a deal breaker for me using Sonoma. I can disconnect the big monitor from the TB2 dock and the movies will play on the native monitor fine and I can still use the mouse/kbd attached to dock fine. I also attached the monitor directly to HDMI port on Mac and still won't play even on native monitor. I tried another basically brand new HDMI monitor and same issue. It just does not like anything external to the Mac display wise to play Apple DRM'd content. Monterey worked fine attached to TB2 dock/big monitor and direct HDMI. I really need a fix for this... Otherwise I gotta go back to Monterey again... Any help would be appreciated.

Just keep in Minder Monterey is out of support now and it's starting to lose more support. I have a late 2015 27" iMac ID 17,1 with similar situation when it comes to specific graphics tasks.

I get that... but it works... what I need is a workaround to make Sonoma work..

having had some of the same types of frustrations and with the responses I've gotten from people here, it seems like the only two options are buy a new / supported mac, or switch to linux, if you don't want to use windows. Since it's iTunes content, windows would probably bet your solution since iTunes exists for windows. (if you don't want a new mac.)

I've done Linux. iTunes doesn't work well or at all on it so I can't play my movies.. I'm not doing windows on this.. I'm gonna try Ventura and see if I get better results.. If not, back to Monterey till it dies.. or someone actually fixes one of the newer versions.. we'll see..

At least you've explored options. Some of these OCLP limitations may require someone who knows how to write device drives. Since they don't actually provide new updated drivers, they just try to patch existing ones into the system.

One thing you could try next week is Sequoia and see if that fixes any of the issues Sonoma has. I've read from people on the macos 15 on unsupported thread that depending on the machine, graphics work better. Your 2015 MBP should be supported in the initial 2.0.0 and macos 15 releases. I only suggested windows because you mentioned iTunes and other than staying on Monterey, which is fine unless programs you need have an update that require a newer OS to run windows is the only other platform Apple officially supports with iTunes / apps.

Dear colleagues, do you think there are prospects for launching paravirtualization on Intel Ivy-Haswell in the future? There is a great need to run virtual machines under Sonoma. Or is it only a downgrade to Ventura for good?

When I tested Ventura, VMware didn't work on either Ventura, or Sonoma for 3D acceleration. on an iMac 17,1. I had to go back to Monterey for it to work. As I mentioned in my posts above, it seems like if you want flawless graphics functionality, you either need to:
stay on a supported OS
get a new Mac
or change platforms.

There just doesn't seem to be a fix without someone writing drivers, and possibly even modifying the OS itself.

I'm not interested in 3d acceleration. Virtual machines do not start at all.

Paravirtualization is 3D acceleration for macOS guests, so while you may not want it for third party operating systems, you're still dealing with it. My situation may, or may not be the same as yours though. For me, VMs were a way to deal with macOS dropping 32-bit support in terms of games. So, I would either need to run a windows VM, or Linux and 3D acceleration was necessary for graphics to work correctly. With open core, that's no longer possible, and future versions of VMware start with Ventura or newer for support now. So the only work around I was able to find in this situation was to install Linux on an external drive and run steam and use Proton for the windows games I want to play. Sonoma works well on this iMac with Open core, and the pro apps seem to work. I did test a macOS VM on this iMac a while back under Sonoma / OCLP, and paravirtualization worked. However third party 3D acceleration didn't. the machine would boot and then go to a black screen. If you check out the Sequoia thread, there was talk there about paravirtualization working in Paralells, so that might be worth you looking into to see if that will work for you.
