I installed Sonoma on my MBP11,1 (Late 2013) today with OCLP of course. But unfortunately I can't seem to be able to upgrade to RC or RC2, it says that I am on the newest version, which is 14.0 Build 23A5337a...

But otherwise it works pretty well, a bit slow though, which is to be expected on a base 2013 with only 4GB of RAM. I will try it out on a 2015 MBP and a 2012 Mac mini later, when it's out of beta.

I really like the new features, but something just makes me come back to Catalina as my main OS every time. I simply love the older design, and it´s so stable and reliable like nothing else that came after, at least in my experience. I really like playing with the new features, but my main system (MBP Early 2015) won't get anything but Catalina. Just my preference.

Yes, I know. This is what I said, I can't update to the latest version (RC2). On that website RC and RC2 are also not available for download.

Some folks have been having problems with WPA Enterprise. Maybe the latest 0.6.9 Sonoma-development commit addresses this?

For those who are having trouble upgrading Sonoma to RC2, here are a few lessons that I learned after performing a clean macOS Sonoma 14.0 Beta installation and then upgrading to Sonoma RC2 on my MBP6,2. These lessons may or may not apply to you and may or may not depend on whether you have a real Mac or a hack. Again, these are lessons I learned with my MBP6,2. Try each to see if it fixes any problems you are having:
  • OC config.plist should have revpatch=sbvmm in NVRAM with RestrictEvents.kext 1.1.2 or later
  • OC config.plist should NOT have any VMM kernel patches for new macOS installations or upgrades
  • boot-args should include -no_compat_check (required for clean installations of macOS)
Slightly off-topic, but these lessons are relevant to Ventura 13.5.2 and 13.6 running on my MBP6,2, too.

EDIT: If it sounds like I'm speaking an alien language, then these lessons don't apply to you.

How did you do a clean RC1 installation? Apple hasn't released any installation files for that, except for the ipsw which can't be used for an unsupported machine requiring OCLP. That's also why OCLP still downloads the older beta I mentioned in my first post.

On a MBP 2015 15" 11,5 with Sonoma RC2 OCLP 0.6.9 23 Sep build -
I find that I cannot edit Widgets - can add those that are already in the widget list but if I click on edit widget I get a beachball which doesn't go away - hard reset only way to resolve. Anybody been able to get over this problem? Thanks

On mid 2014 this depends on the graphics setting turn automatic switching to off for graphics or use Gswitch app I posted this a few posts ago using gswitch to use Nvidia 750m for my MacBook only when editing widgets only or another option is to revert patches edit widgets then re-apply patches.

Thanks Tom, but how does one turn off the Automatic Switching?

Hi Tom, I did download and run Gswitch - worked, but do you know if once I have loaded the needed widgets onto the desktop I can then go back to dynamic switching, or should I stay on discrete?

Yes then go back to dynamic switching (there may be no guarantee a certain widget may require a certain graphics setting will probably just go blank instead of working) I also have to use Gswitch for memories in photos same crash happens, to turn off automatic switching is located in system settings , Battery , options untick Automatic graphics switching edit your widgets then switch it back on when finished.

Thanks for explaining this. Makes sense and explains why I'm having such success with my MBP6,2. My Intel HD is disabled and I only use NVidia Tesla (non-metal) graphics.

View attachment 2262285 Hello everyone, imac 12.2 did not metal 14RC without problems, but I can’t start Bluetooth, I turn on the slider and then it turns off by itself. There is a solution?
Hey @didily did you ever resolve the Bluetooth issue? I just installed RC2 with the latest nightly build of OCLP and the issue was still there on my 10,1 iMac. So I tried a cheap Bluetooth 4.0 dongle from Amazon and the problem appears to have been solved. Maybe worth a try if you are still struggling with it.

Using latest OCLP sonoma-development branch now on MBP5,2. No obvious differences.

Updated Python to 3.11.5, updated Py modules by running pip3 on requirements.txt, than ran OCLP from source to update EFI and to apply latest post-install patches.
Tried the cosmetic setting for animated spinning wheel (sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist Moraea.EnableSpinHack -bool true). It still works in Sonoma.
show desktop: no changes i.e. windows don't go away. An effect observed though: there is a transparent darker band just below the menu bar, so there is a reaction (to right opt key or an active edge in my case).

This 14-year old mbp5,2 runs very well with Sonoma and OCLP. Thanks to developers!
MBP5,1: updated OTA to 14.0 RC2, using latest sonoma-development branch 069n from source (last commit: Fix WPA Enterprise and non-Metal blank WebKit on TS2/WebDriver, i.e. PSP 1.3.1 is used).

Update and patching went fine.
show-desktop not working yet as before. Rest is fine.

Thanks to developers!

Main branch has now been merged into the OCLP 0.6.9 sonoma-development branch. Sonoma-Development branch is now 77 commits ahead of main. Getting close to sonoma-development becoming the next release.

@deeveedee When you make a USB OS install disk, do you use the main branch OCLP version or the Sonoma branch?
I have successfully installed Ventura on an external USB 3 SSD using the main branch, now dated 9-25-2023, and I ran the Post Install Root patches from a copy of the main branch on that external SSD. The iMac is running Sonoma RC2 on the internal Apple 128GB blade. Both OS installs seem happy co-existing, and I can switch between them easily. On that 9-year-old computer, those two OS installs feel much the same, with no obvious speed difference. Looking forward to the official release of both Sonoma and OCLP 0.6.9!

I have used most OCLP versions since 0.5.1 and up to OCLP 0.6.9 sonoma-development to generate a macOS USB installer. I have also used direct macOS downloads without OCLP. I'm inconsistent, because I don't have a preference (don't mind applying post-install patches) and I haven't had problems either way. I have noticed that with OCLP 0.6.8 and 0.6.9, post-install patches are much more reliable (100%). There were times prior to 0.6.8 that I had a failure when applying post-install patches. No more.

Did you figure out a fix? I’m having the same problem on my Late 2015 iMac going from Dev RC1 to OTA Dev RC2. Gets to Login screen for a few seconds, screen blanks, then back to Login screen. Can’t get past that. Was working on RC1 with OCLP 0.6.9.
