I see a lot of issues with the 2016/17 MacBook Pros, especially with SSDs not being recognized and Touch ID not working earlier in this thread.

Anyone given it a shot with the stable build? Wondering if I should pull the trigger on my 13,3.

Hello to all,

Downloaded Sonoma RC2 OTA onto iMac 13,2 (Late 2012 with fusion drive) and installation went without a problem, however, on patch application of OCLP 0.9.6 nightly, patching failed with an error code 71 (see attached) The only thing I did different, than routine installation, is revert patches before invoking OTA update in order to try Delta download.

I downloaded full installer from Mr. Macintosh website, created a thumb drive installer and installed Sonoma over previous (OTA) effort, but was greeted by same error (71) message.

I booted into Monterey (separate volume) and it was fully functional, including graphic acceleration, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. There was an update to that OS to 12.7 (from 12.6.9) which I applied without trouble, but when I applied latest OCLP 0.6.9 patching failed with a different message, than one elicited by Sonoma.

Final result: neither Sonoma nor Monterey are accelerated, though fully functional otherwise. Catalina volume functions without an issue.

If anyone has experienced similar problems, or had seen such error messages before, I would greatly appreciate any input.

Installation of Sonoma and Monterey updates on MacBook Pro 5,2 (2009) went without issues, and same OCLP 0.6.9 patches functioned without any errors.

First attachment is Sonoma generated error, second (with dark background) is Monterey associated error message. Patcher error message.png i Screen Shot 2023-09-25 at 19.49.51.png

With all the comments from people running Monterey via OCLP, I kind of feel a bit odd and out of place, as my iMac late 2015 natively supports it. (It's the last OS though.) Though, there are people with slightly newer machines like 2016 Macbook pros, etc and don't they at least get Ventura natively ? I don't remember.

Just installed Sonoma on my MacBook Pro 11,3. Seems to be working well although I haven't tested much yet. I'll update if I have any problems.

Issue 1 - Lots of beach ball and unresponsive mac when editing widgets.
Issue 2 - Continuity Camera doesn't seem to work anymore. It recognizes the phone only when connected directly to the computer via cable but I only get a black screen when selecting the iphone camera.

The three ways I found to install on unsupported Macs with OCLP remembering I have two internal disks, are:
1) System software update, uncomfortable and long to me 1/10 success with or without root patches installed;
2) Downloading installation pkg and do thumb drive, done one time no success;
3) Downloading installation pkg and installing successful from and to any SSD internal or external just clicking on the OS icon without reverting root patches.
If it hangs after completed installation is due to inconvenient OCLP version so I go to High Sierra SSD (first partition of SSD) and I update OCLP without problems.
This is my experience and I am not responsible if somebody miss something.
In screenshot first grey column is about internal SSD (main), second about original Apple HDD, orange external usb (SSD)

Checking your signature, we have nearly identical machines in terms of processor speed, RAM, storage, only that I have MacBook Pro 11,4 (Mid 2015)

Thank you for sharing... I now have an idea regarding the performance once I proceed...

What version of OCLP are you using? I'm thinking of using 0.6.8 since it allowed me to download the Sonoma non-beta public release...

The official release of Sonoma has arrived, but is it now possible to apply root-patches with OCLP 0.6.9n lately or not? anyway I'lll trying it now.

The T1 Macs (2016 and 2017 models) still have issues with Sonoma. There is work being done on it, but several features are still non-functional. You can follow the progress here: https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/issues/1103

OCLP 0.6.8 won't work for Sonoma. You'll have to use 0.6.9n or wait until the official release of 1.0.0 next week.

Yes, it is possible and for most Macs necessary to apply the root patches.

My late 2013 13" MacBook Pro is getting stuck at a "required firmware installation" with the release version of Sonoma and the latest OCLP 0.6.9n. Anyone else experiencing this?

0.6.9n is not enough. You have to take 0.6.9n from sonoma-development branch.
For people who don't know how to do that, I recommend to wait for official release with Sonoma support planned for October 2nd
It was enough for me and works perfectly on my MBP 12,1.

Great flight
How did you get the old About my Mac window? Is it separate software?

Is there any other way to download the package installer of sonoma except on oclp. I already try to many times to download it always there's a error and I need to start from zero.

EDIT: already solved

If YOU share the way how to install development versions of Sonoma using beta versions of OCLP on unsupported Macs YOU should also start to support those unfortunate new users. Most of you have some years of patcher and OCLP experience, every year we get new members entering the community with Macs just dropped from the official Apple support list - with no experience and no know-how at all.

YOU is the community here writing open this thread. This would be community support.

I think only OCLP version 0.6.9 of the Sonoma branch will install the post install patches afterwards. I would wait for version 1.0.0 coming next monday according to developers. I messed up a little installing the regular beta and thankfully I had another mac to download the correct version since wifi wouldn't work without the post install patches.

I think that people woh are nos skilled enough to read the warnings, find the good version should avoid to install this kind of software.
It's a good filter, people who take the time to understand will do that successfully and knowing the risks.
Others should skip until the release.
