On Discord, there’s also a preview of a 3802-based (Intel and Nvidia) Sequoia-patched machine, with fully accelerated graphics: the future looks good, indeed… :cool::)
I want to know the name of that discord server.

And I'm experiencing sequoia beta 3 in the MacBook Pro 2015 15 inch and the root patch isn't working.

It’s the OpenCore Patcher Paradise community:

Of course, those patches aren’t yet available for the general public: it was only a preview, kindly posted by a developer. We’ll probably have to wait another month, or even more, before there’s something usable for power users: currently, root patching isn’t working for anyone, on 3802 etc.

it's strange you mention the MBP. My MBP 11,1's trackpad on a supported OS at least has right click, but i have to enabled tap to click which is off by default in the gestures.
Thanks for the reminder about the trackpad "tap to click" function. My swelling battery is bottoming-out the trackpad and it was a real pain trying to click it.

now it's time to replace that battery to avoid potential further damage to yourself and the computer.
If I could find a way to disable the need for it I'd yank it and run only on external power. It never leaves my desk, and buying yet another crappy 3rd party overpriced battery that will die in a year seems like robbery to me.

I feel for you. It's happened to me too. But I gritted teeth and bought off AliExpress for a MBP 15-inch 2015 (MBP11,4). It's working still. I don't expect to get many years out of it though.

… BTW, after so many years, Apple still doesn’t enable right click in macOS by default, after the initial setup: it’s ridiculous that you still have to control-click and configure the mouse manually. The same could be said also for the default “Macintosh HD” for the main disk: at least “Macintosh SSD” (well, still strange), come on…
TWO Magic Mice, both without right-click functioning properly (control-click, bah!). I gave up on Apple's mouse products, and went for a generic mouse, made in China. At least, the right-click works on that one. As for Macintosh HD in 2024... the less said the better.

Two defective mice from Apple? Not good! Anyway, let’s hope that the next Magic Mouse will have a (USB-C) charging port which is horizontal, not vertical (another glitch with the current design: you cannot use the mouse while charging it). As for “Macintosh HD”, today they could maybe call it “Mac SSD” by default (and with an SSD icon), or something similar…

On Discord, now there is also a screenshot of non-Metal working with Sequoia: great… :cool::)

Edit (@houser): it’s in support-forum -> Mac OS Sequoia - is anyone testing the beta. T2 support for iPhone Mirroring would require an emulator, which the developers say will likely not happen.

Great news. May I ask a question if you are better than me at navigating Discord: Has there been any talk at all on emulating the T2 chips on Intel for the interesting new continuity features in Sequoia/iOS18?
Is there any chance in hell? I assume not.

MBP11,1: 15.0b3v2 (24A5289h) from full installer, on external SSD. OCLP sequoia-development branch (12 July) from source for EFI and partial root patch with some manual steps for root patching (spoiler). No full graphics acceleration but usable, wifi ok. Photos working, Preview crashing. Can't set resolution to a more usable (smaller) value.
Writing this from Safari 18.0 (20619.1.20.11.1).

As always with this MBP, manually remove two graphics related files from /L/E otherwise will boot only in safe mode.

Looking forward to developers' proper patches. But the result of this naive attempt gives some confidence.

# download from sequoia-development branch

# remake helper as in doc to blindly allow privileges to root patcher:
cd ci_tooling/privileged_helper_tool
make debug

# modify sys_patch_helpers.py around line 266:
...
elif self.constants.detected_os == os_data.os_data.sequoia:
BASE_VERSION = "32023"
GPU_VERSION = f"{BASE_VERSION}.26"
LIBRARY_DIR = ...

# build from source

# root patching will give errors. cd to the /var shown in the message and provide missing files
# not a correct patch but formally lets patcher proceed
# stay in OCLP while doing these steps, else the temp dir will change:
cd /var/folders/6t/_0jy_6vn2lz0pwwgfsz_jy300000gs/T/tmph0s5cv3i/payloads/Universal-Binaries (or similar)
cp -R 12.5-3802-23 12.5-3802-24
cp -R 13.2.1-23 13.2.1-24

cp -R 13.2.1-23 13.2.1-24
Similar exercise with MBP5,2:
15.0b3v2 installed to internal disk, same OCLP.
Installation without problems (need external keyboard/mouse as always) and login OK.
Then root patches attempted with these naively provided files this time:
cd /var/folders/6t/_0jy_6vn2lz0pwwgfsz_jy300000gs/T/tmpii__bz74/payloads/Universal-Binaries (or similar)
cp -R 10.14.4-23 10.14.4-24 # CoreDisplay.framework
cp -R 10.15.7-23 10.15.7-24 # IOSurface.framework, SkyLight.framework
cp -R 10.14.6-23 10.14.6-24 # IOSurface.framework, QuartzCore.framework

Proceeds halfway through booting:
Keyboard backlight switched on, screen brightness changes, mouse pointer reacts to internal trackpad (i.e. USB seems fine). Black screen otherwise. Can't boot in safe mode (crashes early).

Can ssh from outside via Ethernet cable (not wlan) so can investigate further. Probably WindowServer crashes due to my improper graphics patches.

Next to my Mac.
I don't know how many here are running Sequoia in VM but I found this article in Eclectic Light Company website. Hope it's useful.

just being adventurous, installing on a 2012 MacBook Pro (10,2) and ... to make it even more fun, initially as upgrade from Sonoma 14.5 ;)

Root Patching fails and it looks a bit monochrome but works(ed). It showed no Wifi available, but displayed the hotspots ... and ... the screenshot was indeed sent to the cloud to the other Mac.

Bildschirmfoto 2024-07-23 um 13.58.31.png

Now, retrying with a maybe preferable clean install ...
