I have found 2009 mbp running monterey. I was surprised as i haven't checked project status since I upgraded my 2010. I realized that even old macs can be upgraded to the newest macOS with some limitations.
Would someone advised me what would be optimal version for 2010 13” mbp with 6gb ram and ssd currently on Catalina.
Could it be BigSur? Would maps and photos apps from Catalina work on Bigsur?
Thinking also about getting some few years newer MBP. But it may not be needed for my light work.
Thanks for opinion

@dogen Migration Assistant will work from a source to a target as long as the target does not have OCLP post-install patches applied. This means that you can migrate before applying post-install patches to the target or you can "Revert" OCLP post-install patches (using the OCLP GUI) on the target, perform the migration and then re-apply OCLP post-install patches to the target.

There are multiple ways to migrate to a clean macOS install. When I migrate to a clean macOS installation, I perform the migration as follows:
  1. Create a macOS USB installer by following the Apple instructions here. Note that I am NOT creating the macOS installer with OCLP.
  2. Use OCLP to install an Open Core EFI on the USB installer created in Step #1
  3. Add an APFS volume on my SSD to be the target volume for my clean macOS installation
  4. Boot with the USB installer's Open Core EFI and select "Install macOS" (the USB macOS installer)
  5. Select the added APFS volume from Step #3 as the target for the new macOS installation
  6. During the macOS installation, select Migration as the final step of the macOS installation. Be sure to boot from the USB thumb drive whenever the macOS installer reboots.
  7. After the macOS installation and migration is complete, apply OCLP post-install patches to the new macOS installation.
  8. Test the new macOS installation by booting it with the Open Core EFI on the USB thumb drive
  9. If all works well, install the Open Core EFI to your SSD
  10. Retest your new macOS installation by booting with the Open Core EFI on your SSD

Thanks very much for this writeup. Appreciated! Cheers

I've used an installer created with OCLP. I can give your method from step 1 a try. I installed Sonoma a while back using an OCLP-created installer with migration as the final step, as you describe in step 6. I wonder if I ran into a startup loop because I ran the Sequoia installer without going through the OCLP EFI at boot by holding down the option key. It would taken a couple of hours to find out, and at worst I'd have to start from scratch again.

In the introductory paragraph you mention post-install patches. I presume that I can have post-install patches on a separate volume (Sonoma) while installing Sequoia following your method on a freshly created volume on the same internal SSD. Please let me know if that's incorrect.

Thank you for taking the time to write up your procedure. I'll bookmark it.

Hey all, I was checking back to see if the 15.0.1 release fixes the Safari issue with the internet no longer functioning. I was following lance from mac sound solutions regarding the issue. He said, it's not only affecting his Mac Pro, but it's also been documented to also affect supported Macs as well. Currently I don't have any patched versions of macOS installed on this iMac 17,1. However, when I do, I want to try whatever version which was supposed to introduce Apple Pay for third party browsers. I know under Monterey (last supported OS) if I use it in Safari, I just confirm with the iPhone since there is no T series or M series chip in this iMac. As long as I can still do that in third party browsers with whichever version of macOS introduced the feature, I would like to give it a try.

Thanks
Got OCLP 1.5.0 running smooth on my 5,1. Two containers, Monterey & Sonoma, running the latest Pro Tools 2024.6, and the latest Waves V15 plugins.

I think I'll stay there awhile, then perhaps create another container and and install Sequoia after the dust settles.

Lance inquired about it as well how I got it going, and able to keep my Digi 003 BLA tweakhead modded rack working. SWEET.

MBP11,1 updated OTA to Sequoia 15.0.1 (24A348). Updated to 15.0 first with USB installer.
Using OCLP 2.0.2 release. For root patching 15.0.1 it takes the metallib which is already installed for 15.0.

To external SSD for now (internal production SSD still on Sonoma). Looks good so far.
(As usual had to delete /Library/Extensions/AppleIntelHD5000Graphics.kext, else crash of WindowServer while booting macOS.)

The full installer of 15.0.1 is there (looked via gibMacOS).
iOS also has an update, to 18.0.1.
MBP11,1 running fine and quite fast even on the external SSD.
Memory usage may be a bit high (pressure around 40% after 22hrs uptime with moderate usage), or just more than I am used to. But running stably with no further increase in pressure. Installed RAM is 8GB.

Before that last reboot I had various app crashes, including in Photos which I was using heavily for some hours. Didn't look at the memory situation at that time. All went back to normal after a reboot (with a nvram reset which may or may not have had an effect).

So all good, will install 15.0.1 / OCLP 2.0.2 also to the internal SSD. Thanks developers.

Since updating to Sequoia 15.0 running OCLP2.0.2, my MacMini has stopped giving me full resolution. All rootpatches applied, tried resetting NVRAM and pulling out the power cable. Still nothing.
It outputs via HDMI to a Samsung 24" display.
Any help/insight?

Can you not select 1080p (Default)? That is a 1080p monitor isn't it?

Do you have the original WiFi card. I really don't want to try it quite yet until someone can install and have the original WiFi card working. THANKS

Also on the responsiveness. Do you notice a difference from Sonoma?

MBP 2012 10.1. Latest 2.02 patch, Trying to update to 15.01 OTA. Software update finds the update, after a few minutes "checking for updates?. The settings on the toolbar has the red (1) indicating there is an update. It takes a while but gets me to the Available updates where I click on "Update Now". - I am able to click on the "Update Now" and see the button respond to the click. But nothing happens, It does not continue.

The internet (wiFi) is fine - I can browse and speed test exceeds 500 mbps. I did try safe mode, but no update is found on safe mode,

What could be preventing the "Update Now" from continuing. (I have patiently allowed 30 minutes to start). After reboots, same behavior.

My media centre workstation. To the left is a Mid 2014 21.5” (the nerfed cheap one) and to the right a Late 2009 27” (with the first gen Core i5 750). Both running Sequoia via OCLP. The 2014 has been running it for about a week and the 2009 I just upgraded from Ventura yesterday. So far, everything is working flawlessly (with the non-Metal caveats on the 2009 of course).

I have to add a drive cage soon so I can RAID1 the storage but the left machine hosts an Emby media server off an external 8TB NAS grade platter drive and the right machine I use for archiving rare DVD content. The internal optical drive is 90% dead so I have a couple externals. The keyboard/mouse is split between the two machines with an app that basically makes it like having dual monitors.

I could run everything off the 2014 but it doesn’t like transcoding server content and ripping DVDs at the same time, and also redundancy is nice. Eventually it’ll all get replaced with a Mac Mini and some monitors but for now they continue to soldier on.

iMac 14.2 Kepler - Sequoia 15.0.1 - OCLP 2.0.2.
I don't know if the following will help developers, but I describe it anyway.
Currently (with Sequoia 15.0.1 & OCLP 2.0.2), AirPlay SEEMS to be not working and if I activate AirPlay between the iPhone's YouTube app and the Mac a grey screen appears with a prohibition sign. In Sonoma, however, everything worked fine.
It is said that in Sequoia AirPlay does not work because of the Kepler video cards. Yesterday and today, however, with AirPlay I was able to perfectly display several YouTube videos from my iPhone 12 to my iMac. The AirPlay transmission from the iPhone to the Mac worked perfectly and the videos transmitted were either 480 or 720p, but also a 1080 video dedicated to Herbert Von karajan which was, however, made with pictures.
Unfortunately I have other things to do right now and so I can't continue searching for high-resolution YouTube videos that I can AirPlay to my Mac.
Apart from this minor success, AirPlay works fine if I want to transmit video content from the Mac to the Apple TV 4K, even if it is almost 10 metres away.
So, having shown that the limitation does not depend on the Kepler card itself, I hope I have provided information that will perhaps encourage the OCLP Developers to look for AirPlay's malfunctioning more in the context of bandwidth issues, DRM permissions or something else that not being a techie I can't point out.
Thank you very much

EDIT 2024-10-06 18:00 GMT+2
I just installed OCLP 2.1.0 Nightly, enabled "FeatureUnlock" and everything is working perfectly again in my Mac, as it did with Sonoma and previous Systems!
I have also turned off the blocking of "medianalysissd service" to test whether this will give me problems or not; especially since I do not use iCloud photos.
A million thanks to @deeveedee and to @neon od Discord!
