I also have the gray background after every restart, I once removed the root patches from OCLP and then restarted, the gray background was no longer there, then the root patches were reloaded and the gray background was there again, I guess we have to live with it, or not shut down the iMac anymore.
The guys from OCLP are not magicians 😉

It was never the gray background that bothered me. It was the fact that the gray background meant that the machine was slow to start. And damn, it really took a while for everything to be fully loaded. After the last updates I always waited a couple of days and then did SMC and NVRAM resets and the problem was solved. My machine behaves like new.

That almost sounds like voodoo 🫣

No voodoo needed, just housework. Maybe we need to manage expectations more?
An old Mac running a new OS that it was not built for may need time to do all housework after an update. Standard practice here to leave it on for a bit or over night and maybe do a reset.

For all those here that have issues with the latest OS, you can always downgrade.
Most of the issues here over the last few months seem to be things like wallpaper and MS Office and the like and it is maybe clogging up the channel at times. Ah well, there will always be that I guess.

Staying on a version that works until bugs are ironed out is of course always good practice if you need to get stuff done and the difference between the latest and the last few MacOS version is not that big a deal for legacy Macs.
Sonoma appears pretty solid here at least.
IMHO, YMMV. Best wishes for 2025.

I only have the gray background for a few seconds and the desktop loads fully. My main issue is that sometimes, the external displays won't load properly. I have 3 external displays: one will load, then turns off when the other loads. I had to remove all of the plugs, then place them on by one.

Sometimes, the displays won't load at all. I will only have the main laptop screen, and it would be slow. I check OCLP, the patches are all loaded, but when I repatch and restart, it's all okay.

Not sure if an NVRAM reset will fix that, and I don't want to try it for it may make things work.

I just completed upgrading my 13-inch 2015 i5/16GB laptop to 15.3 beta this evening using OCLP 2.2.0 and everything has been working decent since upgrading. I reformatted my 2TB SSD then did a clean install of the OS. I have set up this laptop so my Apple watch will unlock applications and my laptop when opening it. I'm not having any issues so far.

EDIT: I can put the laptop to sleep then come back later and open it up and the laptop will come to the desktop as my Apple Watch unlocks it. It is a nice feature that was not available to these laptops back when they were brand new. This is progress :)

That's weird. I just bounced a file in Pro Tools ( Wav. with 2024.10.1 on Sequoia 15.2 ), I can drag and copy with no issue to any USB drive or stick. I've never seen something like that... Maybe some permissions problem? Have you tried bouncing it to a different destination?
Yeah, that's weird for sure. I can drag to other drives, but not to USB sticks?

I can't change permissions on anything as well.

I'll try to create another Admin account and try that.

Still having issues with the Sequoia Sunrise mov trying to reset itself.

I can go through and select other wallpapers or images, but upon rebooting, it lags out, flashes the sequoia trees, before showing my basic dark grey wallpaper.

Looking into the plist file, it still shows it as default. I have copied another wallpaper file location only to have it return to this.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
    <key>SonomaFirstRunMigrationPerformed</key>
    <true/>
    <key>StoreIndexMigrationVersion</key>
    <integer>3</integer>
    <key>SystemWallpaperURL</key>
    <string>file:///System/Library/Desktop%20Pictures/.wallpapers/Sequoia%20Sunrise/Sequoia%20Sunrise.mov</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Thank You.

Is the setting also activated on the Mac?
Since upgrading from macOS 14 Sonoma to macOs 15 Sequoia, my MBP often loses the setting also.

@All
Does your MBP also regularly deactivate the iCloud+ "Find my MacBook" [translated from German, may be called differently in your country] setting since macOS Sonoma?

It was activated still. I tried to deactivate ,reboot and activate again. Did not fix it.
