I've been testing Time Machine to an encrypted APFS sparsebundle, hosted on a Raspberry Pi ext3 disk. It worked as usual (not fast, not slow) for many weeks, but it's been getting incrementally slower recently. Has anyone noticed anything similar? I'm considering reverting back to an HFS+ backup, since I haven't seen much benefit from APFS.

Right now it shows "Backing up: 1.2 GB of 3.7 GB" and "About 2 hours remaining". That would be 20 megabytes per minute. Not mind-blowing over a 580 Mbit/s effective WiFi connection. The WiFi mesh box is just 2 meters away, with the Pi connected to it over 1 Gbit Ethernet. I can copy many gigabytes to the same disk in a few minutes with drag and drop or SSH. But Time Machine seems to be doing anything but transferring files.

"tmutil status" via Terminal shows that the raw percent stays the same, up to a dozen decimals, for long stretches of time. Every now and then it does a burst of progress, and the bar might jump ahead by a few megabytes, even hundreds of megabytes within a few seconds. HFS+ didn't copy with a linear speed either, but the waiting periods and overall backup update times were shorter and more predictable.

I've run fsck on both the Linux host disk and the APFS sparsebundle. Both checked out OK.

Ethernet isn't an option currently. And Catalina / HFS+ / WiFi worked fast enough through an otherwise similar configuration.

My Mac Pro 7,1 and Macbook Pro 16 got sleep/wake problem in beta 5. When device woke up from sleep, the machine go 100% fan and then got stucked with black screen. I must restarted from holding the power button to turn off. Does anyone have the same experience?
Me too - on Beta 5 still an issue. Hope Apple fixes soon.

Can anyone running Beta 5 confirm whether recording an iOS screen via quicktime is working? This was working for me in the previous Beta but I cannot get my MBP to recognize either my iPhone or iPad. I'm not sure if its the OS or perhaps some other software conflict.

Record iOS screen via Quicktime

I'm running the public beta on my iMac Pro and discovered this feature was missing or not working this past weekend. Fingers crossed this isn't a permanent change. I use it frequently during Zoom meetings to quick switch back and forth when demonstrating iOS/App functionality vs browser based functionality.

Heats up fast on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). Decided to reinstall Catalina and be happy with it.

Unless they fix the issue, i am not going to get BiG Sur ever

The new beta today borked SMB shares. Can't connect to any of them. Not even my Windows VM can hit the shares.

I don’t have this issue I was able to connect to my NAS device as I always have before via network? I’m using guest log in not user name or password? Also doing time machine backup right now and so far no issues?

Time Machine should connect via AFP and not SMB. I just tried to connect via SMB to my Synology and get an error but connects fine via AFP.
