This update seems terribly buggy being so close to release. Hoping they can get it together, I was really looking forward to it.
Latest beta is the worst so far. Reboots, sleeping problems, sound driver problems, kernel panic....
Never had to restart so often a day to fix issues and its the first beta for me since years there its get even worse with each beta. Beta 4 was much more stable than 5 and 5 was more stable than 6....

I think they are far away from release.... or this release will be a disaster.

Ha, I was just about to ask what everyone's guesses would be for how close we are to release! I didn't jump on the macOS betas because I use my MacBook at work. Couldn't take the risk of being on beta.

Mojave was September 24th. Catalina was October 7th. Based on your experiences, what would your guess for Big Sur be? It's sure sounding like "later" would be a benefit for this one...
For what it's worth though, from Yosemite to Catalina...Yosemite and Catalina stand out as being the only October releases (although El Capitan would have also been October if it came one day later).

Seems pretty solid to me so far... but a few more weeks of testing will only make it better.

For sure! October wouldn't surprise me at all. Big Sur has been tempting to me. If I didn't use my MacBook for work, I think I would have jumped on the betas without a second thought. 😂 If it was just for personal use, I could deal with the risks.

I'm sorry I'm late to the game. I tried to go through as many pages as possible, but could not find my issues. The issues are super crappy!

1. Copy/paste usually does not function. When I go to paste, it is the last item on the clipboard! The only way to make it work is to CUT and then paste, but I'm not used to it and it's a big hassle.
2. Clicking 'play' on a song (the icon) doesn't play the song. You have to do that and then click play again at the top.
3. Clicking on windows does not always take me to that app. Sometimes, when it does, a different window is active, causing all kinds of alert fuss since I'm trying to type with no text field active.
4. Speaking of that alert, it happens a lot. Sometimes the field I'm typing into, others not and alerts come with each keystroke.
5. Also, on the subject of active fields, it is not always obvious text is selected or not (leading to more keystroke error sounds) and I try to type over that and it won't work. So I have to explicitly click and highlight that field to type in it, Sometimes even that does not work! What is with the gray highlight? I can hardly see when something is highlighted.

These may seem small, but they are seriously cutting into productivity because I've taken those behaviors for granted!

Any insight (or even a "me too" would help lift my mood) on why, how -- and most importantly (if known) how to fix it -- is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, folks,
D.I.
(Not at all happy with Big Sur. I've got my Catalina backup, but SO hesitant to downgrade.)

Ok NFL emergency, is anyone else having trouble logging in with their cable provider on ESPN.com to watch live? I'm trying to watch the Giants game but the TV Provider screen won't load, it's working on Microsoft Edge though.

Cannot open System Preferences -> Security & Privacy if some driver is updated.
I updated Parallels to 16.0.1 which installed a new driver. But now its impossible to open security & privacy to approve the new driver. it will always throw an error.
if i uninstall parallels completly the error is gone. it seems the latest beta is bugged so its impossible to approve new driver/services anymore.

Is there any workaround for this?
I'm having the same issue here with Parallels 16.0.1. I have the same issue with another software that needs a driver update so I think the problem is with B6. Wasn't an issue with B5 so I chalk this up to a bug in B6 and waiting for a new beta release of Big Sur.

Me too! I have seen very little on this. I'm mid 2013 MBA, you? It happens with touchpad and external mouse. This sounds weird, but I swear it is worse on my external monitor. Some apps seem to be worse than others, too. Firefox was severely annoying, so I had to stop using it.

Look me up if you find a fix, and I'll do the same.

I will definitely let you know. I am certainly surprised no one has reported this and Apple has not addressed it. I have a 16" MBP and all I ever use is an external touchpad, mouse and keyboard. I haven't used Front and Center in a while, I'm seeing if it helps these issues at all.

Turn off the content blocker for ESPN (the gear icon in the Safari toolbar). That solves many issues on various sites... not sure it will work for you, but it's a start.

That worked. It’s weird though, I disabled all my adblockers separately and it didn’t fix it, but maybe there’s one I missed.

Anyone use Macbook Air 2020 i5? I read somewhere the overall temp is cooler in Big Sur compared to Catalina. Thanks.

So I have to explicitly click and highlight that field to type in it, Sometimes even that does not work! What is with the gray highlight? I can hardly see when something is highlighted.
It would seem the problem is wider spread. From browsers, to the Music app, etc. When clicking on a window, it does not always highlight the window picked. This leads to cmd-W and cmd-Q mess ups!

Further, if I click in a text field then hit cmd-A (select all) I get the keyboard error alert. If I just copy the text and try to paste it in another app, only the previous clipboard item is pasted. I have to cut and then move to another app and usually it pastes the correct item.

If I click into an already filled in field and attempt to type where the cursor is now, I get the error alert again. The only way to type over text is to delete what is there and type it out, select one or multiple characters and type over the top of the previously selected term. If I cmd-TAB away from the app, then cmd-TAB back in - the cursor remains in the field, blinking. However, unexpectedly, I have no ability to alter that text or even add to it or delete. Instead it takes the default action of the keystroke for the rest of the application. Example, again, Music.app: If I type in the search box and never click out, then shoot over to another app and come back, the cursor is in the same spot blinking. In this case I'm typing SPACE, which starts or stops the music and does not affect the text field I'm in!

Another annoyance is that when double clicking in the field (the first time) I get the same error alert. If I attempt it a second time, it works. Finally, when text is selected, in dark mode, I can hardly see whatever text is "highlighted" since the bg color is very, very dark.

These are not minor issues for me. As I do all these actions frequently it is strongly interrupting my workflow and I cannot have that!

Anyone have some advice?

I don't know about anyone else, but the new AirPods update is really buggy with the latest build of Big Sur. I would be watching a video on my MacBook, then unlock my phone and it would switch over to my phone, despite not playing any content.

Is your iPhone on iOS 14? There’s the auto-switching functionality in iOS 14 which might solve this.

Hey! How come I cannot get these removed from the storage in macOS Big Sur?

Cheers!

Yes I’m on iOS 14 and the Big Sur beta. It’s like every time I unlock my phone, my AirPods want to switch from the Mac to the iPhone. It makes no sense.

It makes sense as it is for convenient. Assuming that you are using your mac so as to listen to some music on Apple Music. Then, you tend to watch a video on your iPhone. As soon as you get it up and running on iOS14, the AirPods seamlessly move from Mac to iPhone.

But is there a way to disable this "help" if one chooses to?
