Anyone notice any of the below items for HDMI monitors? Just got my M1 MBA and the bugs I've found in just a few days are driving me nuts! All the Apple people use those $5k thunderbolt monitors and don't even know how bad their experience is for everyone else!

  1. When swapping between HDMI monitors, the MBA still thinks the original one is connected until I restart the computer
  2. The "Optimized battery charging" checkbox rechecks itself after a restart
  3. When "Optimized battery charging" checkbox is checked, the external HDMI monitor will not stay on if the lid is closed
  4. External monitor will not stay on unless the lid is open after the MBA is locked. The only way to fix is to disconnect/reconnect the monitor
  5. Unrelated to Big Sur as it's a long standing issue, but why doesn't Apple support CEC for HDMI monitors so that you can control their volume from your mac?? PCs have been doing this forever!

Anyone also having an issue with volume not updating in the menubar? Let's say i set volume to max in the control centre and then I close it and lower volume with keyboard to half then check the control centre and it's still at max there even though sound playing is at half volume.

just fresh new install....tried twice, but bug persists every time.
basically, I want to change icon of an alias in desktop, by making copy/paste command from icon in the "get info" window to the other "get info" windows.

here is what I do

sometimes it works, but sometimes I cannot have "paste" option to the "get info" icon I want to change (it is greyed out).
I have to reboot or type "killall finder" in terminal and It works.....
appears a Finder bug.....

can you guys can try this? I am sure until Catalina It works fine at first attempt.....

Hello everyone,

I just noticed that my MacBook Air with M1-Chip always shows the wrong time on the startup / login sceen after I started it up.

It's always 9 hours behind of the time it should be. For example: It's 16:05 in my country (Germany), but the Mac shows 07:05.

But after I logged in, it shows the correct time.

When I log off, it shows the correct time aswell.

But when I restart, it's the wrong time again.

I also checked the system time via Terminal -> "date". What's interesting is, that when I run Terminal after log-in it shows the correct "CET"-Time. But when I run Terminal from the Start Options it shows the UTC-Time.

I think it's a bug in Big Sur but I wanted to check if others experience this issue aswell.

EDIT: I watched a couple of videos on YouTube and definitely a common bug:

What's also interesting is, that only the MacBook with the new M1 Chip shows the time in the corner after being started up.

Installed Big Sur on my iMac and now Youtube videos won't download. It looks like its trying but they never appear. Anyone have a fix?

And Apple Music is buggy. Try to browse artists and it says try again later.

I am in Catalina now and I think it is a problem of the new Safari 14. Same problem on two OSes. Not always, but sometimes. Use Firefox instead, and problem solved until next update 11.1 comes.

I think you are right! I just downloaded Firefox and no issues with Youtube. This make sense to me now. Thank you!

Since upgrading, the two main issues that I've noticed so far on my 2019 16-inch are:

  1. When waking from sleep, one of my two monitors won't turn back on. Both monitors are connected via display port to USB-C adapters and are plugged into my dock. Both monitors work fine when initially connected.
  2. Since upgrading, I have lost the ability to navigate forward/back in Safari with my mouse. I am using a SteelSeries Rival 500 and I suspect the SteelSeries Engine which handles the rebinding is to blame. Very annoying.

I usually wait a few weeks before installing a new macOS version. I was hoping to get automatic switching for AirPods, but that didn't happen. Here are a few of the things I've experienced since installing Big Sur:

Bluetooth: Cannot connect any Bluetooth devices
Sound: Cannot output sound to AppleTV or any other device. Only internal speakers work.
Contacts: Duplicated all my contacts and contact groups.
Contacts: Removed all contacts from some groups.
Contacts: Removed some images from contacts.
Mail: Removed the grouped Junk and Archive folders from Mail.
Music: Removed all my Music album artwork (this is a serious issue, with over 3,000 albums and over 22,000 songs)

So far, I'm not impressed.
I have an update, with good news about the audio/Bluetooth issue. After extensive contact with Apple Support, we discovered the solution to my problem. As it turns out, years ago I had installed the Airfoil app, by Rogue Amoeba. I removed it some time ago, but I forgot to remove a plugin that it had installed. I removed the plugin and my Bluetooth/audio issue was immediately resolved.

If you have Airfoil installed on Big Sur, uninstall it. Even if it's uninstalled, go to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins and check to see if there is a folder called HAL, and within it, a folder called InstantOn.driver. If so, delete the InstantOn.driver folder, then restart your Mac. By the way, this also applies to any other audio related apps by Rogue Amoeba.

I hope this helps someone!

Is anyone having issues with Apple Pay on the M1 MBA?

I've tried it on two different websites (Apple.com.au and Bellroy) and they've both refused the Apple Pay payment, saying "payment not processed" after Touch ID verified my fingerprint.

Have removed the card and added it back in and still refused.

Big Sur hasn't been too bad for me, nothing is downright broken beyond being an annoyance. I use Spaces all the time, but it looks like when you switch to an external monitor, it loses the active windows. So you still have a Safari space active, but can't bring the windows up so have to restart it.

Has anyone else experienced an UI laggy with bigsur? E.g. I was using firefox for years, but not even scrolling on macrumors home page is lagging (no issue with safari :D )

or for example when I turn on Zoom or figma app everything is becoming so laggy. Sometimes even resize app window (doesn't matter which one) is laggy.

Is it only me? MBP 2018 13" 16gb ram.

I have issues with Mail under BigSur

1. Swipe on Mails does not work anymore. Swiping left used to delete them, swiping right to mark them unread. Worked with Trackpad and Magic Mouse prior to Big Sur.
2. Spotlight Search is getting broken after some hours of running the Mac. Searching Mails is no longer possible. In the Mail App if I search for a Text oder Mail Adress the list of Mails just stays the same regardeless which Account or Folder I click on. After a few minutes suddenly they all vanish an it say that no Mail has been found. If I performa a search for the same criterias in Spotlight also no Mails are found. Restarting the Mail App does not help, only after a Reboot search restarts working as it used to.

I use a Split View (Mail List above and Preview Text below)

Anybody else having these issues?

General Choppiness:
  • mouse along dock on external monitor and MBP monitor choppy.
  • micro stutters on opening and closing applications, even something small like messages.
  • random slow app boots or closures.
  • slow wake times on laptop
  • can not wake MBP from external mouse.
  • window server consuming high memory usage.
  • possible high disk space usage.
  • menu bar custom order changes on every reboot.
  • user pic blurry at the first prompt for the password on boot
  • dragging Windows around.
in testing, force quitting window server seems to temporarily clear some of the problems...

Automatic dark mode is definitely working in macOS 11. In Catalina there was a delay if you were lucky automatically switching from light to dark mode. In fact dark mode came on to the minute of sunset in my area.

1. I don't have an issue with on either macs. Swiping works as before
2. I definitely have an issue with on my MBP.

I tested today if this also happens in the "normal" view when Mails are listed in a column on the left. In this view mode swipe works, in the view when Mails are listed above and preview in the bottom, swiping does no longer work.

Mail is buggy. You can no longer click to return to latest message sorting. You have to manually move around the message column. Real PITA.
