I just installed Big Sur after 20 hours. Applications are still present (as i saw they dissapear for some of you), but my biggest problem is that i can't use Safari anymore. When i open it, it just crash. Any fix for this? Is here someone who is facing with the same issue?
1) Try installing the new Xcode Beta
2) Probably you have your Safari set up at ‘view icons screen’. You should remove all your bookmarks first. Then click the address bar and do a command click on the Favorites tab that is displaying under the addressbar. Uncheck ‘show view icons’ and you should be fine.

I had this unexpected crashing thing yesterday too.

Did you also see this with GlobalProtect? In older version of macOS, it should prompt me to allow access for Palo Alto Networks (the developer of the GlobalProtect app), but now it actually show a bunch of developers that I don't recognize. Now I am not sure if it's that Big Sur has some new protocol in communicating with App to grant proper network related accesses and the current app is not compatible with that yet, OR it's actually a macOS bug that has nothing to do with the app.
If you had read the Release Notes, you would know why these ‘strange developers’ show up.

After the reboot, the problem with the icons on the menu bar repeated.

In console.app I saw a lot of crash reports from ControlCenter.app
I tried to run it from Terminal and it worked:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/ControlCenter.app/Contents/MacOS/ControlCenter

Glad I helped someone.;)

Need help. I'm trying to download Big Sur installer via system update for around 24 hours. It’s just stuck at 9,56gb and there's no solution for it. I've seen messages from other people experiencing same issue.
So I'll be (and everyone who google that problem) VERY VERY appreciate, if someone upload Big Sur dmg image or create a torrent

1)i'm trying to install it now, hope this will resolve my issue because->
->2)i cannot do this because it crashes right after i open it. So i have no access to safari preferences or anything else.

The problem with menu bar items disappearing seems to have to do with fast user switching. When I turn it off, all of my menu bar icons come back.

I turned it off by going to System Preferences => Dock & Menu Bar => Other Control Center Mod... => Fast User Switching, and unchecking both checkboxes. Either checkbox causes the menu bar items to disappear.

Please explain me how did you solve the kext error
So I haven't solved the issue with Dropbox but the other ones loaded (minus LittleSnitch) once I was able to get it to reboot. My problem was I would go to Security & Privacy, allow the extensions, reboot and it would just freeze on the reboot. Once I allowed extensions and selected reboot later I went and reboot from the command line (sudo reboot now), reboot was successful and problem somewhat solved. Dropbox doesn't work still, neither does LittleSnitch. BetterTouchTool works but the touch bar portion doesn't. VMWare fusion launches but won't load a VM. Otherwise largely good to go though.

I cannot get Safari to launch at all. Every time it launches it immediately crashes with the error “Safari quit unexpectedly.”

Tried everything from restarts, holding Shift when launching, deleting extensions from Finder. I have no idea how to fix this and it seems nobody else is reporting the same issue.

Anybody have an suggestions? 🙏
Delete the preferences. I believe this is related to the Develop menu as it doesn’t switch on when selected and cause Safari to stop launching next time.

“Current Location” in weather widget always show Cupertino. This also happens on iOS14, but switches to my actual location after some time. :p

Really appreciate the UI refresh.
This is an excellent post, but would be better suited for the Little Things thread.

I have Big Sur installed on my 15" MBP (2016) and I am having 2 significant issues:
  • Will not login after wake from sleep. I get prompted for my password and after entering the password and pressing enter the OS will not load. The mouse still moves but I cannot enter anything into the password field and cannot proceed any further. I have to do a hard power down and restart.
  • Upon startup it is taking up to 10 minutes before the wifi will work. Clicking on the wifi icon in the top bar brings up the widget and everything is greyed out. After about 10min the wifi comes alive and connects.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. It appears I cannot downgrade back to Catalina without a full disk wipe and reinstall from scratch.

Is it now possible to limit the number of mails that get downloaded upon update in Mail app on macOS ? Does the Mail app provide an option for this in Big Sur?

It can't install at all for me; Or rather it does install but it can't boot. I can boot single user mode, but trying to actually launch the full OS, there are null pointers for something according to the boot log and it just sits there. MacBook Pro 2014 15" base model
Tried with a completely wiped drive using a bootable USB installer

Changing the volume using keyboard seems slow on our Mac Pro 2019. Dynamic wallpapers don't seem to work, and they don't on the colourful default background. If you change it to dark it just shows the dark Catalina background.

Me too. Any luck solving this?

Yes, same issue. Any luck fixing?
I had the same problem until now. What seems to work was to delete every internet account from the System Preferences panel (except iCloud) and create new ones. So far so good, no crash since that. Hope that helps!

For a day and half this beta worked nicely and now I am seeing sluggishness on my Macbook Pro, mid 2016.

Fans are running hot, processor gets to 195 and then chrome crashes, opera freezes, mail frooze a few times and had to force quit.
Outlook is running slow too.

I think my experiment with this beta is done. Going back to Catalina for now.

I was trying to install it on Parallels but on a 2019 MBP 16.

Edit: Thanks for the link, that fixed it.

I'm having an issue with my keyboard where if I'm typing a sentence in a text field, the machine would make a random "beep" noise and my text cursor would disappear so I would have to re-click inside the text field to continue typing. This has happened 7 times in the time that it took me to write this post and it's super annoying. It happens on all apps. I checked the accessibility settings and found nothing. Any recommendations?

AirPods is showing twice, no indication about case's battery life. I also got option for noice cancellation few times, even if using AirPods Gen2.

Biggest problem I have is Airdrop is totally broken in the beta. Works fine on iOS14, but can't even find macOS from the phone.
