1) Try installing the new Xcode Beta
2) Probably you have your Safari set up at ‘view icons screen’. You should remove all your bookmarks first. Then click the address bar and do a command click on the Favorites tab that is displaying under the addressbar. Uncheck ‘show view icons’ and you should be fine.

I had this unexpected crashing thing yesterday too.

If you had read the Release Notes, you would know why these ‘strange developers’ show up.

Hi Dennis, yeah i read the release notes (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos-release-notes/macos-big-sur-11-beta-release-notes/), but was not able to find where it was mentioned, or workaround recommended. Can you please point me to that section or any workaround for this issue?

Did anyone notice that ipv6 is not working on iOS14 and macOs 11? the ip is not assigned.

It does work on iOS13.6 so there is nothing wrong with my router

Has anybody else run into...I don't even know what to call it. Some kind of bizarre text rendering bug in Chrome?

It's not on everything, the sidebar in settings for instance is fine. Gmail is fine. YouTube displays video titles but not view count, channel name, comments, descriptions, etc... Stranger still, when you copy and paste the gibberish it translates it. Same goes for context menu interactions as seen below.

Edit: latest stable build of Chrome (latest Canary too for that matter), Mid-2017 15" 2.9 GHz i7 MacBook Pro

Maybe reinstall the beta?

This is could be an IPv6 issue. I think Apple will fix it before the OS is released in the fall.

I'm about to report it as a bug, but wanted be sure, I'm not the only one

I keep getting this message. I've tried the workaround, so just wondering if its a bug. It does say no available updates found.

So had the same issue, even tried a clean install.
Turned out the issue is the BETA profile is missing, re-downloaded and installed the Beta profile and it works..

Is anyone else not getting any notification that their battery is low or about to die?

It's kind of annoying that there is no battery percentage in the menu bar to glance at, and that the battery icon doesn't at least turn red when its very low.

I've had the battery die on me several times in the middle of work because I'm not focusing on checking my battery level and I'm not getting any kind of low battery notification.

Having a problem sending text messages via SMS. Works fine with other iPhone users but won't sent to non iPhone users. Anyone else have this problem?

I have Big Sur installed on my 15" MBP (2016) and I am having 2 significant issues:
  • Will not login after wake from sleep. I get prompted for my password and after entering the password and pressing enter the OS will not load. The mouse still moves but I cannot enter anything into the password field and cannot proceed any further. I have to do a hard power down and restart.
  • Upon startup it is taking up to 10 minutes before the wifi will work. Clicking on the wifi icon in the top bar brings up the widget and everything is greyed out. After about 10min the wifi comes alive and connects.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. It appears I cannot downgrade back to Catalina without a full disk wipe and reinstall from scratch.
I would try just reinstalling the beta. It may fix whatever bug snuck in doing the initial upgrade.

same problem here, text forwarding is turned on from the iPhone but nothing is showing on Big Sur

On a 512gb 2020 Air, is it easy to carve out some GB for a 'Big Sur' partition on APFS?

Have been on Sierra forever prior to this Catalina leap (since thats what Air shipped with)

also is it easy to re-claim the space, or to expand it if it becomes my primary boot over time (and with GM, etc.)?

how much would you guys put to mess around? 80gb?

After the reboot, the problem with the icons on the menu bar repeated.

In console.app I saw a lot of crash reports from ControlCenter.app
I tried to run it from Terminal and it worked:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/ControlCenter.app/Contents/MacOS/ControlCenter

Glad I helped someone.;)

This only works until the reboot. After restarting, the problem returns. And after entering the command in the terminal writes this:
iMac-Stanislav:~ stanislav$ sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/ControlCenter.app/Contents/MacOS/ControlCenter
2020-06-25 20:29:12.592 ControlCenter[2494:290960] Using your own bundle identifier as an NSUserDefaults suite name does not make sense and will not work. Break on _NSUserDefaults_Log_Nonsensical_Suites to find this

Do you know a permanent solution to the problem?

Hello all. I'm writing to see if anyone else has experienced the issue I have been having. I'm using a BenQ EW2780U USB-C monitor to attach my 16-inch MacBook Pro macOS Big Sur (20A4299v) and realized that the DisplayPort audio does not work. When the monitor output is selected in System Preferences or the Menu Bar, nothing comes out. Anybody else see this similarly pop up?

I found the install file under Applications and reinstalled. Will re-test the issues. A new bug has appeared with I cannot any USB mouse working with my USB-C to USB-A adapter that was working fine on Catalina. I tested the cable adapter with a thumb drive and it reads/writes just fine so it's not the adapter that isn't working with Big Sur. I tried both a wired and wireless mouse (different brands). When I go the mouse utility in System Preferences it says No Mouse Found.

Finder doesn't list contents of some directories.

For one example, when I go to "~/Library/Containers" it shows an empty directory. When I use Terminal, it shows the contents as expected. I've done the usual fix attempts (killed Finder, rebooted, rebuilt Spotlight indexes).

Edit: It might only be that one directory. If I rename it, I can click into it and see the files, but as soon as I rename it back it goes back to showing nothing. If I leave it too long between those actions, MacOS creates a new "containers" for me, which also shows empty. Odd! Anyone else have this issue?

I'm sure I will run into bugs while using beta software, but with the few days of use on my 16" MBP I've run into fewer issues than I had been having with the release version of 10.15.5.

Here is what I am getting with wifi on my 2016 16" MBP. It happens both from a full bootup and when waking from sleep. The wifi icon on the status bar has a line crossed through it and is greyed out and there is no wireless connection. I have to just wait about 2-3 minutes and the wifi comes alive and then connects. Very strange behaviour.

I am having a problem playing any web videos, for example YouTube. The audio plays fine, but the video skips and stutters, like it is playing a frame every 5 seconds. It happens in both Safari and Chrome.

I'm on a Early 2015 MacBook Pro. Anyone else having this issue?

Finder -- Is anyone else having issues with Finder?? I literally can't interact with any folders on my desktop. I can't access my hard drive via a Finder window. In fact, I can't even interact with Finder's menu. Help!!!

Same here. Can't open a window or really do anything Finder related.
Working out of my folder stacks in the Dock functions as a workaround, but it's really limiting.

I tried booting into safe mode, but that didn't fix it.
I've tried disabling all extensions, but that didn't help.

I have it's a suspicion it may be Dropbox or Box…which I would delete if only I could open a Finder window! 😜

Terminal should work.

"cd /Applications"
"ls -l"

Then delete dropbox if it's listed there. "rm <whatever-it-is>".

If you're not used to Terminal/Unix commands be very careful. The "rm" command has the potential to stop your system from working if you mess it up :)

I deleted dropbox before I upgraded as it's one of those apps that hooks too deeply into the Finder for my liking and I get scared it'll cause issues during upgrades.
