Resetting the SMC fixes it.

Thank-you. That worked.

Normal. Well, at least two of us I'm not worried about it. If the next beta comes out and we can't update, I'm sure a fix will be posted.is this normal to see? dont remember seeing unable to check for updates error before, jsut think it said no updates availabe? i know there arent any but. seems like maybe my update is broken.

Has anyone read the release notes?I cannot change the wallpaper from the Catalina picture to the Big Sur one. I can click in the preferences as long as I want. Nothing happens.
This is normal and included in the Big Sur release notes. You can sometimes resolve the issue by booting into recovery and using terminal.is this normal to see? dont remember seeing unable to check for updates error before, jsut think it said no updates availabe? i know there arent any but. seems like maybe my update is broken.
I had a similar issue. Installed Big Sur cleanly in an external SSD, but didn't sign into iCloud. Booted back into Catalina and got a message "there is a problem with your iCloud settings. Some applications and services won't work properly until you reenter your iCloud password." I entered my iCloud password, then the system asked me to enter the passcode for one of my iOS devices. After I did this, the errors and messages went away. The same thing happened on my wife's account, by the way. I guess I can't figure out how installing Big Sur on an external disk without signing into iCloud might have affected my iCloud settings on the Catalina side of things...Beta testing on a dedicated APFS container, internal SSD, MBP 16".
Everything was mostly fine in Big Sur side, but after booting back to Catalina, it complained about a problem with iCloud and asked for the iCloud password. The progress spinner has been spinning for half an hour now. I'll leave it overnight, but based on Activity Monitor, it's not doing much. Plan B tomorrow is to log out from iCloud in Big Sur and log in again in Catalina.
Has anyone been able to dual boot between Big Sur and Catalina, with iCloud enabled, and without the above issue?

I'm experiencing this as well. I'm thinking this is a bug that Apple will hopefully fix with the next Beta release.
I just came across something that I can't determine if it's by design or a bug. If you are scrolling through the options in the Apple Developer App, the list is visible BEHIND the window controls.

EDIT: It appears to be a bug with the Developer app, as the Finder and other apps with the sidebar do not exhibit that behavior.
It has nothing to do with the profile, nor the issue that is described in the release notes. I have the same problem.

Apparently there's a bug that if you never changed your wallpaper from the default one in Catalina that it will not let you change it. It's in the release notes.
