I have used the link that open High Sierra in Mac App Store, but I can’t see it in my App Store, why?

I want to double check with you before I start the update.

I have a new clean SSD 1TB, should I install Sierra on it first?

1 Open the full installer (10.13.6), do the firmware upgrade. I shutdown the computer and start it by holding the finger on the button and releasing it after the sound stops.

2 After the firmware upgrade (10.13.6), installer will open again and I close it.

3 Check if BootROM is MP51.0089.B00, if yes I shutdown and install the Metal capable GPU.

4 Download the full Mojave installer from Mac App Store.

5 Open the installer and do the firmware upgrade. Same as 1.

6 After the reboot I check if BootROM is 140.0.0.0.0.

7 Not sure if this is right. I use a bootable Mojave USB-key and do a clean installation?

Now I have the 18AWG dual mini 6-pin to 8-pin PCI-E Y power cable. Does the cable look right?

RX 580 pulse have HDMI, so it should work to use Apple HDMI to DVI adapter for my second display Cinema HD (old)?

What is your current BootROM? What is your doubt about the firmware upgrade?

RX 580 cable seems right.

I just want to be sure I'm doing it right. The BootROM is MP51.007F.B03.
After El Capitan, macOS installers don't go to the Past Purchases anymore.

Use your Mac EFI GPU to go to MP51.0089.B00, then install your RX 580. Don't try to upgrade firmware or install High Sierra via USB before doing the firmware upgrade, do it from macOS.

So, after a number of attempts, i can't get Mojave to install.

The Mojave download is from today, as is the High Sierra install.

Installed High Sierra on a partition with GT120 installed, bootrom update happens.
replace RX580, run the Mojave installer onto a different partition of the same drive, Goes through the bootrom update.

Bootrom is reporting 140.0.0.0.0

Trying to run the installer off a usb stick, or from the high sierra partition, it goes through the initial steps to choose language etc, does the reboot, screen shows weird colour interlace pattern for the top left 3/4 of the screen, that goes away, and it brings up an error:

"macOS could not be installed on your computer
the installer resources were not found
Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again"

Tried it again using a createinstallmedia stick, same problem. Rebooting from there, it goes back to that same screen.

I was able to grab the install log, there's a couple of these towards the end:

"Unknown[596]: 2019-02-22 10:47:59.584 macOS Installer[617:36219] NSSoftLinking - The Quartz framework's library couldn't be loaded from /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Quartz."

it looks like everything is installed on the target disk - there's a 6GB macOS Install Data folder on the target.

I've tried with all my external usb peripherals unplugged, just a usb keyboard and mouse, set both my displays to displayport 1.1, rather than 1.2, unplugged the second display, no difference.

Any thoughts?

Did you tried installing to an empty disk? Did you fully erased the disk with:

Code:
diskutil list
sudo gpt destroy diskXX

Btw, if your BootROM is 140.0.0.0.0, shouldn’t appear the BootROM upgrade.

Haven't tried that, but I did wipe the partition in Disk Utility from HFS+ to APFS, also tried installing over a High Sierra install, as well as re-wiping it in the install process and trying the install to the blank partition.

No, it's not asking to install the bootrom any more - just did that the once for the high sierra version, and the mojave version.

Ok. Now fully erase the disk with gpt destroy, to destroy the CoreStorage volume, then try to install. Do this with a disk that you don't need anything.

If your BootROM is correctly updated, you can install with a Mojave createinstallmedia USB key and the RX 580.

Is that going to work for just one partition, or does it require wiping the whole physical drive?

System report is saying it's 140.0.0.0.0, how would one diagnose if it's not correctly updated?

Command gpt destroy will wipe the whole drive that you are going to use to troubleshoot. Everything.

Only with a dump, don't worry with that now.

So I found a spare (blank hfs+) drive, tried wiping it to APFS with Disk Utility on High Sierra, and tried booting off the Mojave installer usb stick. Here's some weirdness - both my displays are identical, both set to displayport 1.1.

Machine boots off the thumbdrive, and just sits indefinitely with black, powered on displays. Switching one of the displays to displayport 1.2, they both light up with the Mojave installer grey background, revealing the language selection panel that's been there all along.

Run the install, system reboots, and comes back up to my internal SSD running Sierra. It's copied all the contents to the target drive, but for some reason, not booted back again.

I'm starting to think I should put the createinstall on an internal partition, and also install the target drive in another bay.

Don't use disk utility GUI, do this:

Remember to change diskXX to the correct one, and yes use jhfs+
Code:
diskutil list
sudo gpt destroy diskXX
diskutil erasedisk jhfs+ Macintosh\ HD GPT diskXX

After you shutdown, remove all other drives, keep only the Mojave createinstallmedia USB key and the wiped one. Power up, Mac Pro will start from the USB key, video will work after a minute or so.

*sigh* time to break out the screwdrivers and pull the optical bay to get the ssd out.

So I can confirm that the installer doesn’t work if you have 2 displays, both using the same version of displayport. Doesn’t matter which monitor is what protocol, but the installer will sit at the language screen with the displays blacked out until one of them has its dp version changed.

Then, when it reboots after (I assume) copying content to the install target, same thing again, have to change one of the displayport versions on one screen to make it change from them being blacked out.

[doublepost=1550852396][/doublepost]
Close everything that is accessing the disk, change the Finder window to your home folder, etc.
thanks for the help, but its 2am and i'm going to take a break from it until the next installer revision is released - the bugginess of the way this one is handling the displays during the install isn't worth the effort to just set up an experimental testing partition, until I actually need Mojave.

Hey, I was able to upgrade my 4.1 flashed>5.1 Mac pro to mojave without any problems, had an efi flashed r9 280x and put in an rx580 after. Whole plan was to upgrade it so i could switch to windows for gaming and make the most of the new GPU but when I open boot camp assistant it says my mac is not supported. Does anyone know how to get bootcamp working on a 5.1 mac pro with mojave installed? Tried with both GPU's and got the same error each time.

Specific error message:
"BootCamp Application cannot be used.
This Mac does not support bootcamp".

Specs
2009 mac pro 4.1 Flashed to 5.1
Dual xeon x5690
RX 580 Nitro
32gb 1333mhz ECC ram
Sonnet Tempo Dual SSD Pci tray(Boot drive is on this)
Crucial 480gb SSD (Boot drive)
Allegro Usb 3.0/C card
Cd drive upgraded to bluray player/burner
Blank 240gb SSD in second drive bay for windows
640gb HDD for time machine backups

Really hope I can find a fix for this. I tried the old method of going to the info.plist file for bootcamp and deleting the mac pro entry for 2 of the categories but no luck.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but do you think I will be able to upgrade the firmware from MP51.089.B00 (MacOS 10.13.6) to 140.0.0.0.0 using a non-EFI GTX 670? MacOS Mojave should have built-in drivers for it and it supports Metal, but do you think there will be trouble using a non-EFI Nvidia GPU?

Some people tried with similar configs and didn’t work, but some reported that the firmware upgrade worked.

You should try and report back.

I'll see if I can get hold of the GTX 670 GPU. I gave it away, but it's still within the family...

Also curios if you guys think the firmware upgrade to 140.0.0.0.0 will break my Windows 10 UEFI installation?
