I bought this one from Amazon for car mount also acts as Qi charger. It comes with O-ring so that it doesn't interfere with coil in the middle. O-ring is used as mounting plate for magnetic mount.

This looks promising. I hope it has enough magnetism to hold a caseless iPhone X. I am going caseless and I don't want to stick a metal plate on my phone.

I tried the mophie charge vent case, and it isn't magnetic enough o support the weight of the iPhone X.

No magnetic mount will hold a case-less or plate-less iPhone 8/X. They are not designed to destroy the phone. They’re designed to attach to metal in a case or plate. You are going to need a large mount that can hold the phone if you’re going without a case

I love this idea of wireless charging but I still have to use a cable for audio. So can’t really go that route

yeah I am on the fence, would mean switching to bluetooth connection for phone and I just don't think sound quality is as good with it. Wish Qi chargers could carry data input as well.

I tried the mophie charge force vent mount and it can hold the phone with no case or metal plate for about 4 seconds before the phone starts to slide off.

So I don't think you are correct. It is a matter of a slightly stronger magnet.
[doublepost=1509828380][/doublepost]This could be a non magnetic alternative for us caseless guys.

LOL. Ok. Good luck with that.

I use my phone to digital transfer music back to my dsp(digital signal processor). I bypassed my stock deck completely. I won’t be using anything Bluetooth for Audio. It’s good for the general population that doesn’t care about best quality audio though.

I was kicking around the idea of just adding a qi adapter to my 7 plus but I still use the lighting port as an audio output, and data, to my car deck. I guess a direct connection would still be the most quality set up for audio and charging.

Remove from cart....

Wrong. I'm using a cheap, tiny magnetic mount designed for a SE on my X without any issues.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Are you saying that you can stick a magnet to a stock iPhone with nothing attached to it?

He said it. We’ll see it tomorrow. Some small/cheap yet unique type of magnetic car mount designed to attract aluminum (of a naked iPhone SE in his words) that also works on the latest greatest iPhones without a case or metal plate stuck on the back.

I bought a Spigen case for my X before I ordered it. The case had a very slight indent in the centre to place the metal plate.
Now I have the X, I found the plate obscured the charging coil and would not charge on the Belkin wireless charger.
I put the plate at the bottom of the case, horizontally, which allows me to have the phone mounted magnetically in the car still, and when at home charge it wirelessly.
The phone does get warm/hot when charging so I don’t know if there’s some interaction going on between charger and metal plate.

Yes. A coated magnet to prevent scratches. The iPhone X has steel in it and a glass back. It will attract to magnets. This was not true of the 7.

So given that magnets have attraction to the iPhone X, it is clearly a matter of having the right strength of magnet.

can you show a picture of this?
Im really curious to get a magnetic mount then. I dont want anything attached to my phone that defeats the purpose for me.

I found out yesterday that my Spigen magnetic car mount worked without any case or attachment to hold the X... but barely. The magnet in the holder wasn’t strong enough to provide a stable hold and it kept slipping slowly.

Same here. It shows you just need a stronger magnet.
[doublepost=1509891950][/doublepost]Here is the video which shows that the iPhone X has enough metal in it that it is attracted to magnets. In this case the phone slips off slowly because the magnet isn't strong enough. However in principle a stronger magnet should work.

im curious which ones will be heavy duty enough to hold it. Im wanting to switch from my jellyfish vent clip which I love.
So hopefully I can find a magnetic one with a round adapter piece as most have them.

Looks like your trying to imply the Qi charger has enough magnetism to hold the phone in a moving car if only for a stronger magnet? Oh somebody please do this. Find a stronger magnet! My original point still stands. You are going to destroy your phone. No company selling car magnetic mounts today is going to say this is ok.

I found these and was going to try them for an already existing mount that I have. The mount isn’t QI as I use CarPlay, I just wanted something that would work for when I get home.

I ordered these as well before seeing posts about using the Spigen plate at the bottom on the case. Tested last on about an hours drive with no problem. The phone just can’t be used in landscape this way. I may still try one of these when they arrive depending on the size and thickness. After seeing the ifixit tear down, I may just stick with my current setup.

I mean there is this video I found.

Anybody want to test it? holds a bigger phone so I think it should work. pretty huge though

Please let me know how they work! I will probably order them as well, but I am sure yours will be here before mine.

I use the same scosche setup. Any idea if there is a wireless version that you can stick to the car somewhere with 3m film? All I can find is vent mount versions. I use a case with my x and if I slide the metal piece in the case down to the bottom, wireless charging will still work. In order to get charging and magnet to work at the same time though the charging might need 2 coils?

Wireless charging isn’t exactly new, but there just doesn’t seem to be many viable options.
