Eh. I have tried standing ones before but the dash on my bmw is pretty small and these obstruct my view.
This looks good, but it will require their case or one of those circle plates I ordered from Amazon. Not sure if it will work though. Once I verify the circle plate does not intefere with normal wireless charging and can hold on my existing magnetic mounts and can fit under my Spigen case, then I might give it a try-

I’ve got that being delivered soon. Think it uses a metal ring between case and phone (they seem to have changed the listing and details a bit since I ordered). Will report back when it arrives.

I ended up doing the “turn the metal plate sideways” trick and it seems to be working great. Although i did see that give away for the MagBak Case and I am very interested into possibly trying that out.

sure thing when i get in the car tomorrow.

Hey any chance you could post that video of your mount. We'd love to see this thing in action. Also do you know what brand it is?

What is the thinnest metal plate out there?

I've posted this in another thread, and it's kind of been mentioned before, but if you were using a magnetic mount before it 'should' still work. I was using this mount for the longest time with my 6s, I had the rectangular metal plate between the phone and my case (placed in the center). I took the same rectangular plate and placed it at the very bottom of my leather case with my iPhone X. It still mounts just fine in the car and wireless charging works perfectly.

Just to add, there are some wireless magnetic vent chargers on Amazon. Looks like some posters here are trying those out. They come with magnetic rings so they can be placed over the Qi coils and charging can pass through in order to charge effectively. I was thinking about it but reviews are pretty sparse at this point, figured I'd wait it out.

I'm more concerned about the big black magnet plate sticker on the back of my nice white iPhone.

I was trying out the TankShip 5W from Amazon (there are a bunch of variations of this product available from different vendors). While it does technically work with the hollow magnetic ring, I found the charge to be slow and didn't really increase with time. I don't think the technology is there yet. At least for the car

So I’ve got the ipitaka qi charger - really neat, light little device.

The charger itself doesn’t immediately feel like anything other than a normal magnetic holder - it’s only the mini usb socket that gives it away.

I’ve got the suction cup fitting and it attached to the dash easily.

All so far so good....

Except they don’t include either a usb cable or a metal ring to go in between the phone and the case.

They did recently change the listing to say the cable wasn’t included, and dropped the price to $24.99. When I ordered it was $10 more but mentioned the ring and cable, which is a little annoying.

I’ve tried it with a normal magnetic plate in the middle of the phone - it holds it in place but blocks the charge.

As the magnets are in little arcs top and bottom I found a spare circular metal plate and cut it in half. This now holds it in place and allows the charge.

So, in summary, if all the bits needed were included, it would work great, but they’ve decided to drop the price by $10 and leave out those pieces. This is presumably to encourage people to buy their magnetic cases.

Here’s a picture (and possible contender for worst iPhone X picture yet taken):

I ended up in Target tonight and found an Evutec case. It came with a magnetic vent clip (all for &29.99). As I mentioned, I use car play so the charger is null for me, but I have a wireless charger at home.

The case is slightly thicker then a minimalist type case and has a textured back.

There are metal plates built into the case around the charging coil in the phone. The only thing I don’t like is the “Evutec” logo on the back of the case, but I will get over it.

The vent clip is bigger then I would have liked, but it holds the phone very securely. Much better then the case and my metal plate sideways I was doing.

Most important, when I got it home the wireless charging worked.

Overall, not a bad setup for those of us just looking for the magnetic mount and not to have it interfere with the wireless charging.

Yeah. It's just a shame though. And I bet they're the same silver as the 7s and 8s not the sort of creamy silver as the current one.

I bought this one from Amazon for car mount also acts as Qi charger. It comes with O-ring so that it doesn't interfere with coil in the middle. O-ring is used as mounting plate for magnetic mount.

to be honest this doesn't look super safe.

I already returned it. It's much bigger than I was expecting and I don't want to put a cheap looking metal ring on the back even though I have a case. Ring has rough edges, it sure will scratch the glass back overtime.

Did you get the nylon ballistic case? Mind posting photos?

I've been using a magnetic vent mount on my 7 Plus for the past year and while I was in love with the idea of wireless charging when I upgraded, I was dreading having to figure out a new mounting solution. I've tried a couple options this past week and was ready to give up until I saw that my local Best Buy had one of the iOttie iTap magnetic mount & charger in stock this morning. Just finished setting it up this afternoon and I have to say, they did a pretty damn good job on it. The mount adhesive is the strongest of any mount I've seen to date (this was one of the reasons I switched to magnetic vent mount), the charger itself is very sturdy, the magnets (of which you get two options included) are strong enough to hold the weight of the phone and it seems to charge just fine (not as quickly as my bedside Belkin but still, good enough). Very solid entry into this category and I highly recommend it to anyone who is still looking for a solution here. It's definitely more than I'd wanted to spend on a mount but well worth it given the outcome as well as the lack of other great options.

This looks like it supports caseless operation. Can the base be removed so I can mount it on a vertical surface?
