Does the cashier need to do anything to turn on the terminal?
Wow tmiw so many Party City near you, so you won't have an issues testing a location for yourself. You see there is a ring up screen that shows Swipe. Tap. Scan. with a list of items and the total, then maybe they press something and you get options Credit, Debit and Apple Pay options then you select one of them based on how you want to pay. Also if you ever visit Colorado Arc Thrift Stores there uses the same system but with MX915's instead. Genius is semi intergrated so it may have EMV I'm not quite sure about that one yet.

I also don't need anything from there right now so :p

Ideally I'd like the terminal to just turn on at a store right when they total the transaction. I'll also accept them asking "cash or card" like Shopkeep merchants seem to do. Anything where the cashier has to do something special to get the terminal turned on just adds clunkiness IMO.

Genius is semi intergrated so they probably press the total and it shows those three options on the screen and you select which one you want to use. It doesn't look too difficult for them to use as its no different from a regular card but the customer selects the payment type before they pay.

I posted this over on the other thread. But just found this one. Has anybody tried Macy's since they added their Discover Card to Apple Pay? I have been using my Apple Pay with my AMX at Macy's with no issues over the last year. I added the Discover card to it last week and it has not worked at Macy's since then. Not sure whats going on. Although its been working every else I've tried.

I've noticed that Discover has been flaky since the launch. At some places, it will decline, even though my account is in good standing. Falling back to my Amex with Apple Pay always works, so it's also not a problem with the readers. The 10% cashback bonus Discover is throwing my way for Apple Pay purchases is very nice, but I have to be able to use it first.

Kohl's has NFC enabled now and I just used my phone to pay for my stuff! Although Credit declined(I believe due to the bank and not Kohls fault) and Debit worked fine. Credit should work fine for everyone else though! The screen only showed "Please Swipe Card Now." or "Please Swipe Card" but it was still turned on.

Added Tim Hortons to the list! Not on the official Apple Pay page, and the NFC terminals look ancient (no indication that the accept NFC, at least the ones I've been to), but it works flawlessly!

I'm hearing that Costco might have turned chip support on today. Did they also turn on NFC/Apple Pay support too?

That's funny, because of all my credit cards, my Costco AMEX as well as my other AMEX are the only ones without chip. They don't "have to" turn on chip/pin however, if the don't they are liable for any fraudulent charges.

I actually wasn't expecting Costco to enable it for a while if at all because they already know where you live, so that was a bit of a surprise.

Discover is having issues with some merchants. I, too, was declined at Macy's though another card worked on AP. I called Discover and they told me that when this happens, swipe your Discover card for the purchase and then call them. They will put a note on your account to give you the 10% AP cashback bonus for that purchase. This happened again at an AT&T store (went to pay my bill and get the bonus on that). Called again and they made the modification.

Awesome! Thanks I called and they told me the same thing and credit me with the cash back. I really hope Macy can get their NFC fixed by the holiday season.

I used Apple Pay today at Best Buy to buy the new Rock Band set. I hadn't seen where Best Buy announced an official date, but it is working at my local store.

I'm planning on buying a car battery, thinking Optima Yellowtop. I'm hoping to get the Discover cashback, I don't see any autoparts stores listed, does anyone know where I may be able to buy one using Apple Pay?

Also, added True Value, used Apple Pay at at the location in Allendale, MI. Seems like I may have been the first one to do it, they seemed a little surprised, but it worked:).

Some Pep Boys auto places take NFC and Apple Pay. They should have that battery.

Anyone try Apple Pay at Micro Center yet? I was able to use Android Pay there, but don't have Apple Pay to test it plus I don't live close to one. The cashier said they would be supporting Apple Pay soon and another employee told me that NFC was on but the chip slot was not on yet. Added Micro Center to the list.

Bass pro shops takes apple pay--but you have to sign ?
Yes I used Contactless there recently had to sign as well, hopefully that goes away with soon. It also funny that they use the Verifone MX925 with the contactless addon on top and it only lights up once they total the sale.

Trader Joe's has apparently turned EMV on. Unfortunately it's downgraded the Apple Pay experience a bit; the clerk has to push a button on his/her end to turn on the terminal. I understand that I can't tap while they're ringing up items any more but you'd think they'd automatically turn the terminal on once everything's totaled.

On the other hand, they got rid of that silly credit/debit/EBT prompt after tapping, so that is one good thing about their new software I suppose.

ARCO also looks like they're rolling out NFC at the pump. This particular location is in Riverside, CA.
