A lot more Walmart locations are now on MasterCard's website. Can anyone confirm whether their location has it turned on? I tried a few here and I struck out.

It is probably the Subway and McDonald's restaurants within the Walmart locations. Walmart is a founding member of MCX and will probably not have Apple Pay for a long while.... if ever....

I'm pretty sure one of the ones I visited that's on the map was a Neighborhood Market and didn't have a Subway or McDonald's inside, but I could be wrong.

Subway and McDonalds there are not owned by Walmart and have a separate entry on the contactless locator. They have no affiliation with Walmart other than that's who they pay their rent to.

I tried using Apple Pay at a local Starbucks today and the terminal just said "not supported". Anyone have different results? At least chip worked, so that's something.

From what I've heard, Starbucks will be supporting it eventually, but right now, they're only supporting Apple Pay in their app to reload their gift/rewards cards. I haven't seen many locations with NFC/chip terminals, so they might be waiting for a chain-wide upgrade. I know the big delay was also because they wanted to take payments with loyalty card information, which wasn't possible until iOS 9 (Walgreens is one of the few doing it so far).

Agreed, but I think the point was that if someone reports that a McDonald's or Subway inside of a Walmart accepts Apple Pay, that reported data may be presented in a way that makes it looks like the Walmart itself is accepting Apple Pay.

I was surprised when I saw it on the MasterCard map too since I thought my area wasn't one of the test ones. I may try to see if I can tap a regular card instead of AP and see how that goes; it's totally possible I screwed something up during my last attempt.

This is so true. I don't think I ever actually saw CurrentC available in any retail location anywhere. And absolutely no promotion of it in the real world; I only heard about it online.

This MCX consortium basically spent millions of dollars and delayed contactless payment systems that actually work, all over useless, nonexistent vaporware. It's annoying, but at least they lost tons of money so justice has been done, I think.

If this garbage had not existed, Apple and Google Pay might be in a lot more widespread use. Such a shame.

CurrentC was, and I think still is, only available in Columbus, Ohio, and only in select locations there. They really have been dragging there feet with this thing, it seems as though they're just as confident about it as we are.

Honestly though, I cannot imagine how it would take off at all. Even assuming that they had a nation-wide rollout complete, and state-of-the-art security that posed a 0% risk of data being stolen... how are they going to convince ANYONE to use that ridiculous clunky payment method? I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but c'mon.

Well, at least 10 of the "CurrentC supporters" are official ApplePay supporters now, so really it's just a matter of time before they bury it. I'm really hoping that the death of CurrentC helps NFC growth further.

Nope. CurrentC is only a symptom, not the root cause. Retailers really don't want to stop collecting data without customers' consent, which is why Target and Walmart are now going it alone with their own respective payment apps.

My local Casey's General Store has started taking Apple Pay within the last week or so. They had new credit card machines installed a year or so ago that had NFC, but never turned it on. When I went in Tuesday morning on the way to work I noticed that they had the Apple Pay stickers now displayed on the credit card machines and the cash registers themselves. I have used it 3 times already this week.

I'm not sure if this is a corporate change, or just a change in my local store. I will try to check out some other locations soon.

For those of you not familiar Casey's is a gas station/convenience store chain in the midwest.

BevMo might support Apple Pay now. I saw the logo on the POS display for it, anyway. The terminal only says "insert or swipe" so I'm not 100% sure.

Its chain wide, mine has it had for like a month now, but its a staged rollout that started in the Des Moines metro area spreading out from there. At first it was turned on at my local store but it would decline any Apple Pay or Android Pay transaction. They did the fix in the Des Moines metro area first as I went there and I was able to pay with the same card that would decline at my local store, but then they fixed it within a week or two at my local store and it has worked perfectly since that time. Other areas such as IN probably took longer to rollout Apple Pay though.

All the Publix locations near me also show up in the MC app, but none of them take any form of contactless (...or chip cards). I've reported it several times, but they still show.

NFC works great at Big Lots now.
It really does, like a second or two to tap, but then you have you press credit or debit, and if the amount is correct. Maybe those prompts will go away once EMV is turned on there soon and yes contactless is staying on as Kohl's uses a similar system and they support both contactless and EMV at the same time. Bob Evans and Microsoft Store are two other places uses a very close system to Big Lots and Kohl's and all four of these places accept Apple Pay and Android Pay! I should probably get rid of some locations for Big Lots as most if not all seem to accept it now.

So today I used Contactless at Arby's today and it ran as EMV Contactless, usually it runs a debit as I use my debit card in my phone and they then bypass the pin, but I used a credit card this time and it just ran as NO CVM plus it will now stay on the contactless locator.

Also Shell seems to not work with Apple Pay or Android Pay it just comes up as DECLINED on the screen, darn Gilbarco register with a Verifone MX915 pinpad. Only one card seems to work and that is the grandfathered Android Pay card.

Finally got AP to work at Starbucks. :D

This is good. Now we need this transaction to relate somehow to "stars" so that free coffee is part of the deal. The rewards should integrate with the payment and do it in the background without the need to have an app per store loaded. Just the card with account number is enough for me but this step is going to take a while.

The Starbucks prepaid card that they just announced might work if Chase allows it to be added to Apple Pay.

Not sure how many Dunkin' Donuts support Contactless, but I used it at one today. So I'm betting many do by now.
