Is Chick-fil-A telling us that June 1st the day for Apple Pay? The image is from their Facebook page.

I hope but from my understanding it's just an update to their app to include rewards if you go a lot. Most of the stores I go to have the Verifon terminals and can take NFC but not even the chip reader portion are active.

You're probably right. Their app already takes AP as of April so while unlikely, I have my fingers crossed.

Chip doesn't imply contactless. However, they might use the Visa switch to start accepting one or the other.

I'm well aware those have nothing to do with each other. My point is that even though the new Costco co-branded Visa is capable of contactless (has paywave on it), that doesn't mean Costco stores will accept contactless payments. Similarly, their co-branded amex has/had a chip, but Costco locations don't accept chip for payment yet.

Maybe. Considering that Citi's other cards don't have it though, it does raise the possibility that Costco explicitly requested it (either on their own or were convinced to by Visa). On Visa's end it would make sense to make Costco a tech demo of sorts, supporting all the latest Visa technologies including stuff like single-tap membership/payment through Apple Pay. We'll see in any case.

L.L.Bean accepts Contactless now so I added it to the list. The Container Store uses the same UI as White Castle which uses a semi-integrated system called Elavon Simplify. The Container Store obviously uses a semi integrated system since they had separate power cable and an RJ-45 cable going into the back on the MX915 and contactless is as fast as Starbucks.

Not a major retailer, but I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to check out a tiny neighborhood bakery and bought a cupcake and they took Apple Pay. Their reader looked like an itty-bitty toy iMac a couple of inches tall.

Like an iMac or a Mac Mini? The Square NFC reader looks like a Mac Mini, and many small businesses use Square:

Like an iMac. It had a stand that looked like the stand the iMac has. However it might have been the Square reader mounted on an iMac-style stand. (But teeny.)

I still think it's something to do with Square, maybe square register with square NFC attached to it?

That definitely looks like it, though I only saw it from the back. It just looked so promising that when they told me they accept Apple Pay I held my phone up to it and it accepted my payment.

Apparently CVS now half supports contactless payments as only Amex in Apple or Android Pay work or grandfathered Android Pay Mastercard cards and other MSD only ctls cards. Here are two examples:
(Android Pay)
(Apple Pay)

He is correct as I tested it at my local CVS and the software block is now gone. Now only the pos provider does not support EMV Contactless(MC & VISA) besides Amex and that is not CVS fault.

Took my daily walk in a different direction, to an Albertson's, half a mile farther than my usual store. Bought a chocolate bar just to see if they would take ApplePay. They do. My usual store does not. I may switch stores, if the produce turns out to be as good. Woo-hoo, one more place that takes it!

How do you know only American Express works? That's weird

Well I posted a link to a second video showing Amex Apple Pay working at CVS and Amex Apple Pay is MSD only unlike the rest of the card networks which are EMV Contactless and thus give you the insert card error.

JCPenney is close to rolling out AP. The signs are up and the NFC on the terminals is active. However, the register's say that tap to pay is not enabled. FYI, Chip isn't active either.

Some JCPenney locations are NFC enabled while other locations are not. Its still being rolled out and I have not had success at JCPenney yet.

I finally had my first success at JCPenney yesterday in a different city. Gas station brands listed on the MCX site such as Quik Trip and Kwik Trip have now officially stated on twitter that they have decided to support contactless at all locations. RaceTrac seems to support it at many if not all locations but have not admitted it on twitter and there is a report of someone at Sheetz using it at a pump and it should be inside in the near future. On to restaurants it seems that Five Guys now supports Apple Pay too it seems with MX915's facing the customer. Only at some locations and not all at this time.

The most difficult part of this whole process is the number of places I go that have employees that don't know what ApplePay is even for locations that offer the service. I prompt them to push the credit card button as usual, pay with my phone and they just look at me like I did a magic trick.

Still holding out for Kroger to add this and find a way to integrate my Kroger card into the process. I carry only 4 cards now, Kroger Rewards is one of them. I know I can use my number but its faster to scan the card at the pump. At the least they could activate the gas pumps the way Exxon has with ApplePay and SpeedPass. Love that feature. (When it works)
